How to market it: Ickle Me, Pickle Me, Tickle Me Too’s success will ultimately hinge on its ability to market to its target demographics of families and children. The marketing strategy will involve heavy cross-promotion throughout Disney’s affiliated networks, as well as sending their stars to daytime talk shows to generate interest amongst mothers. Finally, the film will be marketed with a lot of merchandising. Cross-promotion: The studio will commit to heavy advertising on all Disney affiliated networks, especially the Disney Channel, Disney Junior, ABCFamily and ABC. It will also feature the characters and stars on promotions for the channel and teasers for shows. The main characters, Hunter Parrish, Graham Phillips, and Nolan Gould will be sent to daytime and morning talk shows such as The View, Regis and Kelly, The Talk, Rachel Ray, and Good Morning America. They will also be sent to speak on nighttime shows such as The David Letterman Show. McDonald’s will even offer “Happy Meal” packages with Ickle Me, Pickle Me, Tickle Me Too toys. Finally, Entertainment Tonight will run a series of segments in the week leading up to the release of the film to document the technology used to create the liveaction/animated movie and also the hectic schedules the actors had to go through to complete filming the movie while shooting three hit television series. Merchandising: As Mel Brooks so elegantly put it in his movie, Spaceballs, “Merchandising, merchandising, where the real money from the movie is made.” This movie is going to make its bread and butter on its merchandising. It will have Halloween costumes, lunchboxes, action figures, coloring books, stuffed animals, video games, online games, cell phone games, and even a board game. If it’s successful enough, and hopefully one or two sequels are produced, Disney will open up an Ickle Me, Pickle Me, Tickle Me Too ride at its theme parks.

Finally, the most important, and possibly effective, means of communicating the film’s excitement to children: have their role models influence them. Harper Collins will go on a campaign to promote literacy and poetic studies in elementary schools all across the nation, giving teachers free copies of Shel Silverstein’s Where the Sidewalk Ends, featuring his signature poem, “Ickle Me, Pickle Me, Tickle Me Too”. The theory behind this is that the teachers will read the poems to the children in class who will fall in love with the poet, just as millions of children have before, and go to the see the movie for the love of Silverstein.
