SACRED HEART DEVOTION

IN SUPPORT OF OUR TROOPS

Devotion to the Sacred Heart has two elements: consecration and reparation: We consecrate ourselves to the Sacred H e a r t b y acknowledging Him as Creator and Redeemer and as having full rights over us as King of Kings, by repenting, and by resolving to serve Him.

The Knights of Columbus, St. Louis the C r u s a d e r #12929 is proud to support our troops! This year our council has made a donation to www.opgratitude.com. We encourage our fellow parishioners to go to their website and make a donation as well. For St. Louis families with active servicemen/women, we invite you to place an order for a free care package for your soldier. The orders may be made on line @ www .opgratitude.co m. Orders may only be placed by servicemen/women, and their respective families. Your soldier must NOT be returning home before December 1, 2010.

We make reparations for the indifference and ingratitude with which He is treated and for leaving Him abandoned by humanity. From the earliest days of the Church, "Christ's open side and the mystery of blood and water were meditated upon, and the Church was beheld issuing from the side of Jesus, as Eve came forth from the side of Adam. It is in the eleventh and twelfth centuries that we find the first unmistakable indications of devotion to the Sacred Heart. Through the wound in the side, the wounded Heart was gradually reached, and the wound in the Heart symbolized the wound of love." (Catholic Encyclopedia)

The U.S. Catholic bishops have urged the faithful “to choose their political leaders according to principle, not party affiliation or mere self interest.” To help parishioners become informed on where candidates stand on key issues, the Florida Catholic Conference has polled those running for state and federal office. To see how candidates on the Nov. 2 general election ballot responded to the Candidate Questionnaire, visit www.flacathconf.org.
