ESL INFORMATION APPLICATIONS 10 COURSEOUTLINE Dr. E.P. Scarlett High School Ms. Guan  Rm 114  403-281-3366  [email protected] OBJECTIVES Students will      

learn the proper use of word processing software, including document creation, editing and printing of properly formatted documents. develop skills in the proper use of a database management system by developing flat-file databases and demonstrating their use in personal and business applications. develop skills in the proper use of spreadsheet software through general data manipulation and personal recordkeeping. develop skills with tools used for computerized presentations involving text, data, graphics, sound and animation. enhance their occupational level keyboarding competence of all keystroke functions, using unedited, edited and straight copy material. build up English skills through learning the five modules below.

MATERIALS REQUIRED / RECOMMENDED It is often necessary to transport information back and forth from home to school computer. Having a removable storage device (often referred to as a memory stick, flash drive, USB drive or jump drive) is highly recommended. ASSESSMENT This is a 5 credit course consisting of 5 separate clusters. length, with a final mark being assigned to each cluster.

EXPECTATIONS You are expected to  attend all classes and take advantage of every opportunity to learn the content given in class.  always show respect for all the people in the classroom and classroom equipment. This includes no food/drinks in the computer lab. Exception: you may have a bottle of water but it must be kept on the floor.  Only utilize software directly related to this course and are not allowed to use the Internet without teacher permission. Any students playing games or utilizing software not appropriate to course content will lose computer privileges for a period of time (to be decided by teacher). Refer to student handbook and notice the agreement when you log onto your computer.  not to bring music paraphernalia/cell phones to class since work time should be quiet in the class.  attend punctually and regularly and use class time effectively.  Complete assignments/projects carefully and on time. Missed assignments must be completed in a timely fashion. All assignments must be completed .  VANDALISM/THEFT/COMPUTER USE/. Refer to student handbook.  At Dr. E.P. Scarlett High School, we believe that marks should be a fair and accurate reflection of our students’ understanding of the course learning outcomes.  In order for teachers to evaluate this, we believe that students need to complete all course work. All assignments and tests impact course grades.  To that end and within reason, the staff and administration are committed to providing students with opportunities to complete their course work.  Students are encouraged to keep up to date with all of their assignments in every course.  If clarification is needed or a problem is anticipated, they should speak with their teacher.  Students who are not completing course work on time can be asked to remain after school and/or work in the Completion Room until they are caught up.
