OTTO SCHMIDT For these few of the innumerable services he has performed for our school and class, we, the senior class of June 1953, dedicate this, our yearbook, to Mr . Otto Schmidt, whom we shall always remember as our modest, sincere Band and Orchestra director: For organ1z1ng a band and orchestra on which we can always rely for a good performance at football games, operettas, rallies, commencements and other school functions . For teaching those of us with the interest, music in basic and advanced stages, as well a s leading so many of our class to triumph in solo and ensemble contests . For his perseve rance in having the band and orchestra pictures retaken for our yearbook for those senior members who wanted them, regardless of the inconvenience caused him. For disciplin ing these groups when the pictures were being taken with the words, ulet's cut this out and make it a good picture for the sen io rs," in his typ ically goodnatured and consid e rate manner.

NEIL D. MATHEWS To Members of the Class of June, 1953: Among the lessons which we hope you have learned, either before or during your high school years, is that " honesty is the best policy. " Honesty with self and with one's fellows is an important source of strength in dealing with others whether in school or out. Most of the political ills of the world would be cured if international espionage and intrigue somehow could be replaced by universal integrity. If and when people can come to trust each other, armaments and the need of them will fade away. Neither this country nor Canada ever has felt the need for an armed defense of our common border . In the realization that the idea back of every act, good or bad, originates w ith one person, each of you should try to do your part, however small, in bringing nearer the day when individuals and nations throughout the world will be honest with each other, trust each other, and live in peace together.
