Course Description The Speak Easy Program is an educational option for elementary students that provides an authentic opportunity for children to be immersed in the Spanish language and culture. Students experience an extended weekly class for age appropriate and grade level exposure to Spanish in a native-like environment.

Students will continue to develop basic yet authentic and natural listening and speaking skills in the Spanish language. Our goal is for students to reach the Early Production stage of Language Acquistion. Students will begin the process of reading and de-coding in the Spanish language by learning the Spanish alphabet and phonetic correspondence of letters. Students will re-enforce grade level content in math, social studies, language arts and science using the Spanish language. Students will continue to develop an appreciation for the Hispanic culture.

This is accomplished by an in-depth study including, but not limited to, the following topics: Calendar: days, months, year Numbers 1-100 by one’s; 10-100 by 10’s Shapes Ordinal numbers Opposites Alphabet Foods Animals: pets, jungle, zoo Pronunciation development Beginning decoding of written Spanish

Weather Sorting, counting and patterning Greater than, Less than Addition and subtraction Word math problems Basic conversations Clothing and parts of the body Various Children’s Literature Ear training and accent development
