GCSE Results 2015 Results below are given for the whole cohort of students who took their final GCSE exams in Summer 2015. Separate figures are also given for FSM pupils (pupils entitled to free school meals), indicating how Larkmead School is addressing the needs of pupils who are less advantaged than others.

Attainment: 5 A*-C E&M This figure indicates the percentage of students who gain five or more GCSEs at grade C or above, including a grade C or above in English and a grade C or above in Mathematics. 5 A*-C E&M = 54% (national expectation for this cohort: 47%) Previously 50% (2013) and 57% (2014) FSM 5 A*-C E&M = 27% (national expectation for this cohort: 29%)

Larkmead School is maintaining its improved attainment measures, despite being concerned this year by unexpectedly high grade boundaries on the English iGCSE paper. Nationally, schools are appealing against grades achieved on this paper and this may see Larkmead’s percentages rise further Students eligible for free school meals have continued to perform in line with national expectations, based on KS2 levels attained at the end of Year 6.

Subject specific figures also show attainment at A*-C grades and A*-A grades. English A*-C = 61% (national expectation for this cohort: 67%) Previously 56% (2013) and 69% (2014) Maths A*-C = 68% (national expectation for this cohort: 66%) Previously 63% (2013) and 65% (2014) FSM English A*-C = 33% FSM Maths A*-C = 36% English A*-A = 10% (national expectation for this cohort: 15%) Previously 7% (2013) and 17% (2014) Maths A*-A = 19% (national expectation for this cohort: 15%) Previously 20% (2013) and 22% (2014)

Larkmead’s students continue to attain high GCSE grades in both English and Mathematics, both above a grade C and above a grade A. The school continues to be fully staffed with specialist and experienced teachers in these two key subject areas for the coming year.

Attainment: EBacc The English Baccalaureate is a school performance indicator (as opposed to a qualification in its own right) and measures the percentage of students who achieve grade C or above in “traditionally academic” GCSE subjects. To qualify for inclusion in the English Baccalaureate figure, students must achieve a grade C or above in English, Mathematics, two Sciences, a foreign language and History or Geography, all at GCSE level. EBacc = 15% Previously 13% (2013) and 16% (2014) Much work has been done to ensure that students at Larkmead School that wish to pursue careers in which employers will look for the EBacc range of subjects make the appropriate choices in Year 9 to ensure that they are successful. This continues to be developed as the government and employers are being more specific in the range of subjects in which all students should be qualified.

Progress: 3 LoP and 4 LoP In the five years of study from Year 7 up to the end of Year 11, students make progress on the National Curriculum Level achieved at the end of Key Stage 2 (Year 6). Treating a GCSE Grade C to be a level 7, a GCSE Grade B to be a level 8, etc. the number of levels of progress that each student has made in each subject can be calculated. The figures below give the percentage of pupils who have made three and four levels of progress in the two core subjects (English and Mathematics). Three levels of progress (3LoP) is referred to as “Expected progress” and four levels as “Above expected levels of progress”. English 3LoP = 62% (national expectation for this cohort: 71%) Previously 60% (2013) and 71% (2014) Maths 3LoP = 68% (national expectation for this cohort: 65%) Previously 68% (2013) and 65% (2014) FSM English 3LoP = 39% FSM Maths 3LoP = 45% English 4LoP = 24% (national expectation for this cohort: 31%) Previously 14% (2013) and 33% (2014) Maths 4LoP = 39% (national expectation for this cohort: 27%) Previously 38% (2013) and 40% (2014) The percentage of pupils making three levels of progress across KS3 and KS4 continues to be impressive in both Mathematics and English. Both literacy and numeracy is assessed throughout a student’s time at Larkmead and small group intervention sessions are organised as necessary. As a school Larkmead ensures that every student has the opportunity to succeed, no matter what their situation or primary school attainment. Results for students making above expected levels of progress (4LoP) are also good.
