Additionally, you will be prepared to learn more in 7th and 8th grade and beyond. Below are the questions you will be able to answer by the end of the course: • Unit #1 Essential Questions: o How could you describe yourself in Spanish? o Who are some famous Hispanics and Latinos and how could you describe them? o How could you describe the culture of some Spanish-speaking countries? o How could you have a basic introductory conversation with a Spanish-speaker? o How could you describe your family relationships? • Unit #2 Essential Questions: o How could you explain others what do and don’t like to do? o What are some commons pastimes in the Spanish-speaking world? o How could you participate in some common childhood activities from the Spanish-speaking world? o How could you describe an item to a group of Spanish speakers? • Unit #3 Essential Questions: o What are some characteristics of an open air market? o How would you bargain in an open air market? o How can you describe foods and their flavors? o What products could you find at an artisan markets? o What are the steps in making salsa and other recipes in Spanish?

• Be Safe o Entrance: Students will enter the room quietly and on time, prepare supplies, and immediately begin bell-work. o Exit: Teachers, not the bell, will dismiss once students are quiet so any announcements may be made and the room has been straightened appropriately. o Tardiness: Quite simply, tardiness will not be tolerated. Students must be seated when the bell rings. 1st and 2nd offenses will be entered into PowerSchool, which will result in a call home. In according with school guidelines, the 3rd offense will result in detention. • Be Responsible o Participation: It is extremely important that you be present and actively engaged every single day. This is true for any class, but it is especially important for language class. When you are gone, you miss activities that cannot be made up, so make an effort to be in class daily and on time. Your success in this class depends largely upon being present and contributing in a positive and participatory manner. o Preparedness: You are expected to come to class prepared every day with a positive attitude ready to contribute in a positive way. Being prepared for class also means having a writing utensil every day. When you enter, you should get your folder from the red crate at the back of the room before being seated. o Electronic Devices: Any visible electronic devices will be confiscated and turned into the office. • Be Respectful Classroom Rules (in addition to the Tappan Positive Behavior Support Matrix): o Follow directions the first time. o Use kind and appropriate verbal language, body language, and tone. o Complete work fully and on time. o Participate fully and appropriately in all classroom activities. o Please raise your hand to speak and do not talk while others are speaking
