A Scottish Fold Cat Foreign Body Removal via Tracheoscopy Scottish Fold Irkı Bir Kedide Traheoskopi Aracılığıyla Yabancı Cisim Uzaklaştırılması Duygu SEZER, Gülşen SEVİM, Onur İSKEFLİ University of Istanbul Veterinary Medicine, Istanbul, Turkey Abstract

In cats, upper airway obstruction may occur due to a number of different causes, including foreign bodies, neoplasia, trauma, pharyngeal polyps, and inflammation. These may be differentiated by physical examination, radiography, endoscopy, biopsy, or exploratory surgery. In this report, we describe the clinical presentation and endoscopically treatment of a tracheal foreign body. Key Words Foreign body, cat, endoscopy

Anahtar Kelimeler Yabancı cisim, kedi, endoskopi An eight-month-old, 2 kg, Scottish Fold, male cat was referred as an emergency case with a complaint of salivation, choking and coughing of four hour’s duration. On physical examination cat was bright , alert and afebrile with increased upper respiratory sounds evident on thoracic auscultation. A lateral radiographic view of the trachea was showed a radiopaque foreign body in that area. In preparation for tracheal endoscopy the cat was pre-medicated with butorphanol 0.1 mg/kg followed by induction of general anesthesia with ketamine 5 mg/kg and going on with isoflurane %2. A tracheal endoscopy was performed with 11 mm length, 2.7 mm diameter, rigid endoscopy. And we removed a needle from entrance of trachea. Also the cat was treated with prednisolon, ceftriaxon, ranitidine and furocemide after endoscopy. Recovery from anesthesia was uncomplicated, after three days, the patient was exactly well. Tracheal and bronchial foreign bodies in the cat have been infrequently reported in the veterinary literature. Small foreign bodies may cause to coughing, respiratory stridor, respiratory distress and dyspnea. The diagnosis of radiodense foreign bodies is confirmed with plain radiography. Radiolucent foreign bodies can be demonstrated by positive contrast bronchography or broncoscopy. Foreign bodies within the trachea or mainstem bronchi may be removed with a bronchoscope and appropriate grasping forceps. Some paper says that removal of tracheal foreign bodies via bronchoscopy is limited in most cats by the small diameter of the trachea. But in this case reported here the ability to deliver the foreign body via tracheoscopy easiliy.
