OBJECTIVE: To prospectively examine the association of abnormal placental cord insertion (PCI) and adverse pregnancy outcomes in singleton pregnancies. STUDY DESIGN: This prospective cohort study examined 1005 placentas from consecutively delivered singleton pregnancies in a tertiary center. All the placentas were examined, blinded to the pregnancy outcomes, following delivery according to a defined protocol. Standardised images of each placenta were taken for measurements. Distance of PCI to the placental margin was measured digitally using ImageJ software. PCIs were categorised as central/eccentric (>2cm from placental margin), marginal (
