Centrales Solaires CSP
Conversion Indirecte
Centrales PV Classiques Conversion Photovoltaïque Conversion Directe

Principles of Photovoltaic Photovoltaic: What is it ? Photovoltaic is the DIRECT CONVERSION of sunlight into electricity Photovoltaic is Unique There is presently no way to produce electricity DIRECTLY from sunlight except the Photovoltaic Conversion Photovoltaic: what requires ? This conversion requires photovoltaic panels (PV modules) and light (Photons)
Photocell PV module
+
= Photons
Iph
PV modules exposed to the sunlight produce directly an electric current: Photocurrent Iph
The photocurrent Iph properties (1) Le photo-courant Iph d’une photopile est pratiquement proportionnel à l’éclairement solaire qu’elle reçoit E (W/m2): Iph ∝ E
E3 = 1000 W/m2 ∆ Iph
E2 = 600 W/m2
Iph
∆ Iph
E1 = 200 W/m2 Voc reste presque Cte
The photocurrent Iph properties (2) Or, l’éclairement solaire E est donné par:
E (W/m2) = Flux Φ des photons solaires
x
Énergie moyenne du photon
hν
Constante
Φ = 5,7 1021 photons/m2.s
et
hν = 1.1 eV = 1.76 10-19 J
The photocurrent Iph properties (3)
Concentrated PhotoVoltaic (CPV) Technologies To concentrate the sunlight onto the photocells, 2 main technologies are used The Standard Technology: Fresnel Lens
The New Technology: Parabolic Mirrors
Incoming Sunlight
outcoming Sunlight
Our HCPV is based on this new technology
Rayons lumineux à la surface de capture (utilisation d’un suiveur solaire, Sun Tracker) By concentrating the direct sunlight onto the photocell surface we only increase the photons flux, but not their absorption To increase their absorption, we have to choose appropriate photocells : Multilayer photocells
Conditions required to maximize photons absorption
Multilayer photocells
