The most recent addition, Taika Waitiʼs Boy, has a big lead on the rest of the field (Table 1). Things look a little different when you cancel out the ticket price inflation (Table 2) and instead tally up the number of tickets sold. The popularity of earlier releases then becomes clearer particularly the extraordinary success of Once Were Warriors. Add in television and home video viewings, and it seems likely that more than half of the population of New Zealand has seen this film. Table 3 gives some measure of how much a ticket to the movies in New Zealand has cost over the years.
