BIBLE STUDY – September 2013 Review Book discussion – The Red Tent by Anita Diamant

The fictitious version of the rape of Dinah, Jacob’s only daughter. The story is re-told from the Genesis 34 account. The author takes creative license and tells the story from the voice of Dinah. Themes Discussed Sisterhood —  how we respond is largely based on what we experienced in our

family of origin (see diagram on next page) —  plays an important role in helping one another through tragedy and triumphs. (Ruti s character vs. Dinah and their supportive networks)

Worth —  What we think of ourselves is played out in how we allow others to

treat us. —  Our value is not determined by what happens to us.

Visual Imagery of How Our Views of Sisterhood Begin to Develop The leaves represent what our sisterhood produces

Imagine the trunk as the base of sisterhood that grows from the roots

Roots represent what we learn from our family of origin
