WELCOME!
Welcome to our 8th Annual Cross Diamond sale. We are so blessed to work and live everyday in the livestock industry! Ours is an industry that "works" closely with God, understanding His power and glory in our lives on a daily basis-- through rain, or lack of it; sunshine, snow, wind or ice. Its easy to see that we are small and that we depend on our Creator and on each other as we live each day.
We are so grateful for all of the friendships and fellowship that have come our way through this business. Yes, it is a business, but a very personal business-- one with high investment in the lives and well-being of people. We are blessed to work with good people on a daily basis and are so thankful for the hard work, dedication and ambition of our "Cross Diamond family." This fall, at Cross Diamond, we all collaborated on a mission statement for the ranch. Many ideas came together about what, how and why we do what we do. It has been a great and difficult assignment to focus on a few words that state the mission of our ranch. Here's the finished product:
"Our mission is to respect God and His blessings of the land, livestock and people who touch our lives and, through stewardship and service, to care for these blessings as we provide genetics and services to our customers while raising high quality beef." We are continually working to improve the cattle that we raise. At the same time, we always seek ways that make it easier for our customers to do business-- whether through convenience traits in our cattle, or in services we provide.
All of the bulls, registered heifers and Cross Diamond bred heifers have been BVD-PI tested negative. All registered cattle have also tested free from any known genetic defects. The sale cattle have been closely scrutinized for quality, soundness, disposition and health. We welcome our valued consignors, whose cattle have undergone the same scrutiny and are guaranteed just the same as the Cross Diamond cattle. If trouble arises, you only need to make one call to either Scott or Kim. We'll stand behind the cattle. As the nation rebuilds its cowherd, Red Angus is at the forefront. This is a breed that is highly adaptable, docile and of high value in straight-bred or cross-bred programs. We believe that Red Angus is poised to be the "base" of America's cowherd, supplying beef worldwide.
Thank you for your interest in the Cross Diamond program. We hope to see you in December!
Scott, Kim, Johanna and Marie

Solid Rock Red Angus, Limon, Colo.
Cable Cattle Company, Bertrand, Neb.
Greetings from our Solid Rock family! We appreciate your interest in our bull offering at the Cross Diamond Production sale this year. Our ranch in Eastern Colorado saw an early May begin with Arctic conditions, then drought, fires and floods, yet our cattle have flourished in this adversity, which makes us even more proud of the quality of cattle we continue to raise. Our operation’s mission is to raise calves with minimal assistance on open, native range pastures, then wean them on forage with a modest ration, optimized for genuine growth. We place your needs with careful consideration into the genetics we select when making our mating plans and are confident that the functionality of these Age Advantaged bulls in the lineup will work on the range, as well as in the lot. Mission Statement females are hard to beat and our lead off bull “Foundation” (TR Colt x Mission Statement x B571) is a testimony to their value. Our lineup of Packer, Lancer, Bank Statement, B571 and Logan sons offer a balanced EPD offering. We are also excited to introduce two Marias Grandsons and two Direct Ticket Sons who trace back to Brown’s great Abigrace 7730 super donor cow. Thank you for your interest in our genetics and we look forward to seeing you on sale day!
Welcome to Cross Diamond’s 8th annual production sale. I’d like to start by thanking each and every one of you for your support and making this sale such a great thing to be a part of. Without you, none of this would be possible. I work for the Ford family and could not ask for better people to be around day in and day out. The opportunities and methods I’ve learned here will stick with me forever. It’s fun to be around people that appreciate good cattle and are constantly looking for ways to improve their ranch and everything associated with it. I purchased my herd of purebred cows from Brandyberry Cattle in the spring of 2010 after finishing college. They are managed with Cross Diamond’s purebred cow herd. That means the Triangle Y cows are expected to produce a calf every year, maintain themselves, then breed back, otherwise there isn’t any room for them on the place. The past two years have really made the cows prove themselves and not only did they survive they thrived. Not only maintaining themselves, but also producing stout functional calves. The bulls were weaned last October, then grazed cornstalks and winter range until May. They received maintenance levels of protein through winter and spring. The bulls grazed summer range in Elwood until September when they were brought back to the home place and were placed on a high roughage ration. We culled through the bulls in June and then again in September when they were sorted into sale groups. I am very excited in the bull crop I have to offer on this year’s sale. Through some strict selection criteria and the use of new sires I believe they look better than ever. The combination of LSF Wide Spread 0052X and some Normandy Canyon daughters produced some heavy muscled, high volume, stout progeny that are sure to get your attention. Other sires include Basin Trend Setter and Beckton Herald P375, who have yet to disappoint. I look forward to seeing you all at the cattle drive Sunday night and again Monday. Take care.

Right ON Cattle, Ber trand, Neb.
We at Right ON Cattle Company want to welcome you to the annual Cross Diamond Sale and our 7th year of bringing you bulls. It has been a privilege to be associated with Scott and Kim Ford and their crew. Although the year again presented some hardships and the summer consisted of constantly making sure that the cattle had fresh grass, we feel blessed that we were able to produce quality bulls to provide to our customers and we are excited to see you at the sale. Our goal is to continue to bring the best genetics to our customers. We have used several sires in our herd again this year. In our offering we have some bulls from 7U Julian Twice. He is double bred Beckton Julian B571. Another sire used this season is Buf Crk Medallion, known for his great maternal strength. Once again we thank you for attending the Cross Diamond sale. .
Straka Red Angus, O’Neill, Neb.
Welcome to the 2013 edition of the Cross Diamond Bull Sale from us here at Straka Red Angus! I do hope to see you at the sale and have a chance to visit a bit. It was a much better summer here than last we actually had green grass most of it. I do hope that the summer treated you all well and with timely rain.
I was able to drop in on Scott and Kim on Oct. 29 to see how our bulls were doing and had the time to look through a lot of the bulls that are in the sale not just ours and Man, do they look GREAT!! It is going to be a super offering of bulls. Scott and Kim and their crew always do a great job of conditioning and presenting the bulls for sale, I think you will be impressed, as I was. This is an opportunity for you to purchase some of the best the Red Angus breed has to offer! 4.

Horsley Red Angus, Council Hill, Okla.
Silver Spur Ranch, Wyo., Colo., Neb., N.M.
Greetings from the Horsley Family and “Welcome” to “Cross Diamond’s 8th Annual Production Sale”. While many of us have had our challenges in 2013, for the most part, our natural resources are in much better shape country wide than they have been in the last 2-3 years. Pastures are starting to heal and reproduce while water supplies are returning closer to normal. We feel extremely fortunate to be a part of the Red Angus Family. This breed, along with its’ seed stock and commercial producer’s are some of the most resilient resources our cattle industry has to offer. This asset has allowed us as producer’s to not only survive, but continue to be successful in challenging times. The Red Angus Breed’s diligence in working closely with the ”Beef ” industry has been a major factor in its’ success to date, and is a product of the vision of our founding breeders and past leadership. To them we are truly grateful. While we at Horsley Red Angus have been customers of Cross Diamond for several years, we feel very honored that Scott and Kim have asked us to consign a group of commercial heifers right from the heart of our replacement pasture to this year’s sale. Many of these commercial cow prospects are progeny of genetics we have purchased from Cross Diamond in the past. Our experience with the genetics from Cross Diamond is they produce cattle that possess input efficiencies that allow those cattle to “do more with less”. This has been a very important trait in making it through the drought years we have recently experienced. This summer and fall have been extremely busy at Horsley Red Angus as we have moved to our new home in Council Hill, Ok. We relocated all of our registered and commercial cows to this new location, and were very fortunate to be able to acquire the registered herd from Arcadia Land and Cattle Company whom we have managed for the past 8 years. This will allow us to become a more dependable supplier of Red Angus genetics in our area and also provides us an opportunity to utilize some Red Simmental and Red SimAngus genetics in producing commercial replacement females for our customers. Also Pam and I are very excited that our oldest son Cal, and his wife Shannon have joined us as partners at Horsley Farms which is home to Horsley Red Angus and will contribute to the daily management of the cow herd and farming operations. We are also extremely excited that they will have a new addition to our family due in May, and Pam and I will be grandparents again. Grandkids are the greatest. I think they are the present God provides us with for having raised their parents. We are truly thankful for this blessing. We are looking forward to December 9th as we will have the opportunity to meet new friends, visit with old ones, and share in the genetics of Red Angus at Cross Diamond Cattle Co. We are honored to get to be a part of the Cross Diamond Sale. When you have good cattle backed by even better people, it just seems to work well. Kim, Scott and their team have continually offered cattle that work in the real world. We have bought ‘em, used ‘em and like ‘em! This is why we wanted to their sale venue to be the very first auction we offered Range Fire bulls in.
Silver Spur Ranch has integrated Range Fire (Charolais x Red Angus) genetics into our registered and commercial herds because of their diversity and cattleman appeal. They are managed as a registered breed and held to the same accountability as all of our other cattle. The bulls we are selling represent several generations of disciplined selection, culling and planned matings. In all of our cattle, we start at the ground and work up…you can expect sound, good jointed bulls with added muscle and fleshing ability. If you have questions about the bulls, give Cheramie Viator a call at (979)777-9419.
The open, commercial Red Angus heifers we are selling are from the Northern divisions of Silver Spur. Several of these heifers are AI sired as a result of our annual heifer AI program. Buy with confidence, these heifers know how to survive, can flesh and will be some of your best calf raisers!
Paxton Ranch, Stapleton, Neb.
We, at Paxton Ranch, feel honored to be asked to put 100 bred heifers on the Cross Diamond Sale in December. Here in the Sandhills, we've been blessed with good moisture to grow grass this year. We are a cake and range outfit that plans on the cattle to winter out in the hills on cake and little, if any, hay. We expect our cows to go behind a hill and have a calf in April or early May, raise that calf and get bred to have another the next year. Our weaned calves are run outside with cake and range with little hay if the range is covered. If that calf is a steer, we want him to do well in the feedlot, if it is a heifer, we want her to make a replacement as good or better than her mother. We have had a long-term relationship with, first Kim, when she was at Panhandle, and now at Cross Diamond with Kim and Scott. We feel that their bulls have worked well for a long time in our type of operation.

HEAD CIRCUMFERENCE GUIDE--
The Purpose * To organize and sponsor steak feeds, entertainment, programs, meetings, and projects with Service members and their families * To encourage and assist Service members and their families in any reasonable manner
* To foster among the people of the United States an appreciation, respect, and honor for our Armed Forces Military Service members whose sacrifices have and will continue to make our freedoms possible.
I don’t know where the quote originated, but it’s often spoken, “There are only two people who gave their lives for us, one was Jesus Christ and the other was the American soldier.” True. Sobering. Thought provoking. Then there’s another, “All gave some, and some gave all.” There’s no way to repay those brave Americans who protect our freedom and way of life. Our servicemen and servicewomen sacrifice their time, their families and their lifestyles to keep America free and strong. Although they can’t be repaid, we can do everything in our power to show our gratitude and appreciation, and to support those who stand strong for us. It’s our joy to continue the tradition that was begun in 2011, and donate 100% of the proceeds from Lot 21(as our form of 21 Gun Salute) in this sale. Our sincere appreciation can never be expressed for all that the military has done for us. Thanks to everyone who has pitched in to support the work of the All American Beef Battalion. We encourage you to read more about this program, its purpose and its possibilities. We hope the work of the All-American Beef Battalion will continue to provide the sustenance of American beef, as well as a sense of support and appreciation to those who have sacrificed so much to bravely defend our country.

For the past several years, we have been taking a head circumference (HC) measurement on all calves at birth. After hundreds of calves to compare and analyze anecdotally, we are certain that this shape measurement is as meaningful as the birth and calving ease EPDs to predict future calvability in cattle. The measurement, taken at birth around the poll and under the chin of the calf range from 40 cm to 52 cm. Average pelvic areas for two-yearold heifers range from 170 to 174 inches. A 50 cm measurement is roughly measures the same size as a 174 pelvic area, proving the point that a head circumference above 48 is too large to ensure calving ease in first-calf heifers. The average head circumference in this year’s Cross diamond offering is 46.3 cm. The average birth weight is 80.3 pounds. We recommend a HC of no more than 46.5 cm for use on heifers. We strongly believe the HC measurement, along with birth weight and calving ease direct (CED) EPD will be beneficial to you in determining the calving ease of the bulls in the sale offering, in addition to the calving ease maternal (CEM) in predicting calvability of these bulls’ daughters. We have printed the head circumference measurement in the catalog for your reference. We have also tried to “bird dog” the bulls we think will work best on heifers, considering the measurements of birth weight and head circumference and the EPDs of CED (calving ease direct) and BW (birth weight).
