culture of creative exploration, artistic expression, mastery and risk-taking.
However, we never lose site of the fact that as communicators, we must always consider the message and the audience when developing creative solutions that are both appropriate and engaging. We also place a great deal of emphasis on the execution. Without a strong idea to begin with, execution means very little, but without an aesthetic sense or the ability to bring a creative vision to life, the best of ideas can fall at the first hurdle. Our goal is to develop graduates who can think imaginatively and bring their ideas and the ideas of others to life through a creative and artistic approach to digital communication.

Product Designers need to be observant, sensitive and imaginative. They need to be interested in the world of business and marketing. They need to be curious about how things work and they need to enjoy solving problems. This course offers excellent opportunities to learn the relevant skills. This is a very practical course where students get experience in many aspects of designing and problem-solving by undertaking projects. We have well equipped modern design studios and access to a wide suite of state-of-the-art software. Drawing and model-making are used to develop concepts and to communicate these to others while computer generated renderings and models are also used to explore concepts. In many instances these are then modelled using Rapid Prototyping technology.

What is a portfolio?
A portfolio is a sample collection of your best work. It should be edited, easy to look through, and well presented. Be selective: include and highlight only your best work, excluding early works unless there are some exceptional pieces. Do not “pack” it with any more than 20 pieces (we appreciate quality, not quantity). What to include:
1 Notebooks, cuttings, creative sketchbooks or visual diaries indicating your interest in visual communication or Animation.

Some institutes now ask applicants to limit their portfolio to a “special project”. At LYIT, we do not ask for a special project as we recognise that every applicant is different, and the portfolio should show your individual abilities and interests. If you are working on a special project then please do include it in your portfolio if you are pleased with it, but we really want to see work that demonstrates a real enthusiasm for design or animation.
1 Do not include any artwork which is a copy of someone else’s work 1 Do not include 3D work (photographs of the work are fine).
