ACADEMICS This year, 414 students of the School appeared in the All India Senior School Certificate Examination of the Central Board of Secondary Education. 54% of the successful students scored marks above 80% and 21% of the successful students scored above 90% marks. Pallavi Gupta topped the School and stood first in the Commerce stream with an aggregate of 96.8% marks. Gauri Chandra was the topper of the Humanities stream with 96% marks. Both, Avi Agarwal and Dhruv Chand Aggarwal were the toppers of Science stream with 95% marks. There are six students who scored 100% marks in some subjects in class XII. Mayank Chandna & Abhiroop Aggarwal scored in Mathematics whereas Arushi Khosla, Anjali Kumar, Saloni Gautam & Vrinda Agrawal did it in Psychology. With immense pleasure, I would like to place on record that twenty one students from the batch of 2012 namely –Anjali Kumar, Arushi Khosla, Madhav Seth, Malvika Bhatia, Saloni Gautam, Selene Khosla, Vansha Sethi, Vrinda Agrawal, Akshita Singal, Abhiroop Aggarwal, Alisha Mobin, Arjun Pratap Sindhu, Jyotsna Mahajan, Kavya Gupta, Pallavi Gupta, Avi Agarwal, Mayank Chandna, Devika Aggarwal, Dhruv Chand Aggarwal, Tanvi Gupta and Aditya Aggarwal, have been awarded the Merit Certificates by the C.B.S.E. for their being within the „top 0.1%‟ (subject wise) in the All India Senior School Certificate Examinations held in March 2012. Four students from the batch of 2012, namely – Avi Agarwal, Dhruv Chand Aggarwal, Parth Bansal and Sheikh Farhan Amin, have qualified for award of „Scholarship for Higher Education‟ (SHE) from the C.B.S.E. for their being within „top 1%‟ (in aggregate) in the All India Senior School Certificate Examination of the CBSE held in March 2012. The All India Secondary School Certificate Examination of the Central Board of Secondary Education was taken by 336 students. Similarly, twenty five students (presently in class XI) namely –Anurag Bagga, Natasha Panesar, Akshit Choudhary, Bhuvan Agrawal, Devyani Aggarwal, Jai Sahni, Punya Taneja, Samika wadhwa, Shohtaj Singh, Sunny Gakhar, Tejas Sirohi, Aarushi Gupta, Natasha Raj Mehta, Saurabh Sharma, Shikhar Sharma, Kriti Garg, Megha Bansal, Saniya Maini, Siddharth Seth, Subhangi Chandan, Akanksha Wasan, Bhavya Garg, Gunank Hora, Rishi Madhok and Shrey Rajesh, have been awarded Merit Certificates by the C.B.S.E. for obtaining „Grade A1‟ in all the five subjects in the All India Secondary School Certificate Examination held in March 2012. Akshaye Singhi, Rachit Bansal and Aakash Bhalotia, all three from class S5, have qualified the Junior Science Talent Search Examination - 2012 and have been selected to get the JSTSE Scholarship. In the Talent Reward Examination conducted by FIIT-JEE in December 2011, Aatmik Gupta, Devyangi Upadhyay and Utsav Garg became Zonal Toppers - Rank-I, II & III respectively.

Aatmik Gupta secured first position in both, Science EduOlympiad and Mathematics EduOlympiad conducted by Educomp Online Supplemental Services Pvt. Ltd. and got cash prize of Rs.1,00,00/- for each Olympiad. 2.

AWARD TO TEACHERS Mrs.Meena Joshi, presently Dean-Physical Education of our school, is the proud recipient of coveted „CBSE Award to Teachers for the Year 2011‟ in September 2012 by the Central Board of Secondary Education. Mrs.Baveen Gupta, School Counsellor, has been awarded with the „Yale Educator Award 2012‟ by Yale Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Yale University, U.S.A., for inspiring and supporting to achieve excellence.

RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMES FOR TEACHERS Teachers of almost all the subjects, besides the school‟s librarians, counselors and the school doctor, attended various workshops and seminars conducted by the C.B.S.E., N.C.E.R.T., N.P.S.C., other schools and hospitals during the year.

WELLNESS CENTRE/COUNSELLING DEPARTMENT To propagate the importance of leading a healthy and positive lifestyle, the Wellness Centre of our school organized its annual event 'Good Life Campaign' from 19 to 21st December 2011. Marathon, Modern Master Chef, Graffiti Making and Inter-school Band competitions were highlights of the event. After holding „Aptitude Testing‟ & „Goal Setting Workshop‟ for students of class S5 and on the basis of detailed analysis their aptitude & suggested careers, individual counseling for the student & parent was arranged by the expert career counsellors from „Eduignite‟ (Educomp Solutions Ltd.) from 16th to 25th January 2012. An Orientation Programme was held for parents of the students of class S4 & S5 on 15th

and 16th March 2012, for helping them have deeper understanding of the Continuous & Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) & its requirements, and to ensure better performance of their wards in their academic journey. „Career Awareness Week‟ was organized for students of class S6 and their parents from 2nd to 4th April 2012. The Career Counsellors from Eduignite separately addressed the students opting for Science, Commerce & Humanities stream on different days and gave them details of the academic institutions for higher studies in the respective fields. On 4th April 2012, the school organized an orientation programme for parents of students of class P5 of R.S.Junior Modern School, Humayun Road, whose wards were to join class S1 in senior school from April 2012. Dr.Jitendra Nagpal, a well known Consulting Psychiatrist, addressed them on parenting of early adolescent child and „Handling Transitions‟. From 19th to 22nd April 2012, Peer Trainers of our school participated in the „International Life Skills, School Health and Well-Being Summit 2012‟ organized by the Central Board of Secondary Education in collaboration with Expressions India. Our students presented a choir followed by a band performance. Siddharth Seth and Asees Bhasin won the first prize in „Health Quiz‟. Devyani Aggarwal won a consolation prize in elocution competition. During April and May 2012, officials of various universities from USA visited us and made presentations to our senior school students on „registration procedure‟, writing „essay‟ & „student profile‟ etc. Subsequently, Counselling Department held a workshop on „comparative study‟ of all these universities. To hone skills in the field of journalism, a few students of class XI - Subhangi Chandan, Prachi Narang, Swarnim Jain and Akanksha Wasan did an internship programme with the Times of India during summer vacation. On 19th July 2012, Peer Trainers addressed all girls from class S3 about dangers of cyber space & cyber bullying. They also took up specific issues that might cause them mental trauma. Being girls themselves, they understood their sentiments and tried to help them for the problems that they shared. A workshop was conducted from 16th to 18th October 2012 by doctor from Fortis Healthcare for Peer Trainers on topics „Alcohol Use & Abuse‟, „Anti Bullying‟, „Study Skills‟ and „Stress Management‟. Our school‟s Counsellor regularly stays in touch with students having „Special Education Needs‟ (SEN) to understand their requirements and also arranges help for them through their peers & teachers, and meets with their parents to know their progress as a process check. The whole programme operates in a very structured manner for effective results. In collaboration ORKIDS Foundation, our school has set up a Learning Centre in school for students with Learning Difficulties (LD). The process of „Online‟ Study Abroad Application is operating successfully under the guidance of School Counsellor. CLUBS’/SOCIETIES’ REPORT ASTRONOMY CLUB Members of the Astronomy Club attended sessions in school on „Biography of Stars‟, „Total Lunar Eclipse‟ and „International Space Stations‟ during December 2011. They also attended a „Solar Eclipse Conference at Vishwa Yuva Kendra from 15th to 17th December 2011. The club members also attended outdoor sessions which included a learning session at Jantar Mantar on 15th February 2012 and an overnight sky observation session in a village in Haryana on 17th February 2012. Our students - Saahil Vashishth, Abhishek Verma, Hassan Ejaz, Kushal Dalal, Bhavya Aggarwal, Divam, Anuraag and Dhruv Jain participated in the International Space Settlement Design competition organized by NASA in January 2012 in Gurgaon. Our students won the Runners Up title. Three members of the Astronomy Club participated in the Annual Space Art Contest organized by the Nehru Planetarium, New Delhi on 23rd April 2012. Keshav Nagpal (S2) got the third prize for his drawing in this contest. A group of eight Astronomy Club members viz. Tanmaye Soni, Adhikansh Jain, Drona Srivastava, Nitish Gupta, Vishesh Aggarwal, Shivam Bose, Srishti Baid, Mallika Nagpal, Tushaar Goel, escorted by Mrs.Subhashini Sinha visited Shanghai and Beijing from 4th to 11th June to observe the rare celestial event „Venus Transit‟ and found it a great learning experience. Another group of twenty four students together with Mrs.Subhashini Sinha, Dr.Vandana Varma and Mr.D.P.Singh visited Kennedy Space Centre, Orlando, USA, New York and Washington D.C. from 18th to 29th June 2012. In group activities at the Kennedy Space Centre, our students made hydro-rockets, robots and learnt about GPS. Niharika Shukla (S3) and Gunika Kaur (S3) together stood first in the junior category in Annual Astronomy Quiz conducted by Nehru Planetarium on 27th August 2012. The Club In-charge, with the help of resource persons from SPACE, conducted various sessions for the member of the Astronomy Club on the topics– „Introduction and Jobl‟,

„Asteroid & Space Events‟, „Time & Directions‟ etc. during September and October 2012. To celebrate the „World Space Week‟, Sukanya Viswanathan (S3) delivered a talk on „Space for Human Safety & Security‟ during assembly in October 2012. BITS ‘N’ BYTES CLUB Bits „N‟ Bytes, the Computer Club of our School, organized two-day Computer Fest „ACCESS 2011‟ on 23rd & 24th December 2011. The symposium was attended by approximately 1500 students from over 80 leading schools of Delhi and NCR. Various events such as Software Display, Programming, Web Page Designing, Gaming, Robotics, Group Discussion, Quiz, Video Editing, Audio Editing, Story Telling, Fancy Dress etc. were organized according to categories viz. Open, Senior, Junior, Sub-junior and Cadet. The overall championship was bagged by Delhi Public School, R.K.Puram. BIOTECHNOLOGY CLUB In February 2012, the Genetics Congress Trust, Indian Agricultural Research Institute, Pusa Road, New Delhi held a comprehensive lecture on career opportunities in Biotechnology for our students of class S5 and later organized a „Quiz‟ on Genetics and Genomics. On 8th May 2012, a selected group of students attended an Orientation Programme on „Genetics & Biodiversity‟ organized by the Genetics Congress

Trust at I.A.R.I. and visited the plant tissue culture & genomics facility at National Research Centre for Plant Biotechnology at Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute, Pusa Campus. CHEMISTRY CLUB – ‘EFFERVESCENCE’ Students of class S3 were taken to National Science Centre, Delhi to see exhibition on „Water – An Elixir of Life‟ in January 2012. In August 2012, a collage making competiton was organized for students of classes S4 & S5 on the topics - Nuclear Disaster, Oil Spills, Biological Welfare, Chemistry in Dentistry, g-suits etc. Students were taken to National Science Centre, Delhi on 4th September 2012 to attend a workshop on „Green Renewable Sources of Energy‟. The resource person navigated them through the journey of renewable energy and emphasized on the need to design alternate means to meet growing demands. The Chemistry Club organized its second symposium „Ignition 2012‟ on 15th October 2012. More than 13 reputed schools from across the city participated in various competitions viz. poster making, magix in chemistry, comedy skit in chemistry, missing marbles, power point presentations etc. organized during the symposium. Dr.Sreekumar Chokalingam from National Physical Laboratory enlightened all present with his latest research on „Graphene‟. Our school was the winner in two events – magix in chemistry and comedy skit in chemistry. DEBATING SOCIETY The Debating Society of our school organized its Annual Literary Festival on 9th and 10th May 2012, which included debates in English & Hindi and „Ars Poetica‟, the poetry recitation competition in English. EDITORIAL BOARD – ‘SANDESH’ AND ‘E-SANDESH’ Our Editorial Board continues to maintain its high standards. All students across classes are involved in the publication work. The Middle School students are encouraged to publish ‘Modern School Chronicle’. The „Red Brick Times‟ is published by the students of Secondary School while the school‟s magazine „Sandesh‟ is published by the Senior School students. Another arm has been added to our „Ed Board‟ by publishing „E-magazine’ twice in a year. ECONOMICS SOCIETY - ‘ARTHGAURAVAM’, To inculcate interest of the students in the subject, the Society organized a „Dynamic Entrepreneurship‟ event in the month of April 2012. With waste material, students creatively made products like lamp shades, multi-purpose containers, book-ends, magnetic photo frames etc. Further, their persuasion and marketing skills were tested and they these products to their peers. In April 2012, members of Society held Half-a-Minute-Just-a-Minute (HAM-JAM) session and held enriching discussion on contemporary topics like „West to East – Who will

dominate the World Economy‟, „Outsourcing and its Impacts‟, „Mandatory 2% - Corporate Social Responsibility‟. In May 2012, experts from Competition Commission of India made a presentation about the new „Competition Act‟ to reduce monopolistic tendencies/malpractices in economy by big players and sustain/promote competition to protect consumers. In July 2012, members of Economics Society held a discussion session on „Micro Finance‟ for students of Economics. The Economics Society organized its annual symposium „Arthnama 2012‟ on 5th October 2012 and participation by over twelve reputed schools of Delhi made the event interesting & successful. The „Cost management‟ and „Bazaar‟ activities were won by Blue Bells School and Manav Sthali School respectively whereas Springdales School, Dhaula Kuan & Modern School, Vasant Vihar were the winners of „Brandstorm - Marketing creativity‟ and „Ad Acting‟ games. „Declamation‟ activity was won by our school. The Rolling Trophy was lifted by St.Columba‟s School, Ashok Place, New Delhi who emerged as the overall winner. Many eminent personalities in the field of economics were the judges and guest speakers. ENVIRONMENT CLUB As a part of Delhi Government‟s Project „Y‟, environmentalists from Swechcha took our environment club students to banks of the river „Yamuna‟ and showed a documentary film to them educating about the need to save the holy river from getting polluted. Arjun Soin was selected as the Tetrapack Ambassador from Delhi as a part of Project SEARCH by TERI and was sent for sponsored field trip in January 2012 to Vapi, Gujarat. He visited the Tetra Recycling Plant, attended workshops and participated in interactive sessions on importance of recycling of waste. Follow up workshop was done with other students in July 2012 to re-emphasize on the importance of tetrapack waste management. Walk for Water – In March 2012, 45 students of Environment Club along with the teacher in-charge, participated in campaign „Save Water Share Water‟ organized by various NGOs, UNICEF, Delhi Jal Board & Delhi Govt. Students walked around Lodi Garden and became a part of the Blue Campaign to minimize wastage of water by adopting the „5Rs‟ Reduce, Reuse, Recharge, Recycle and Respect water. Earth Hour - On 31st March 2012, our Environment Club supported the Earth Hour proposed by WWF. Students carried out a Signature Campaign, made posters and lists of „dos‟ & „don‟ts‟ to create awareness about importance of energy conservation. They also used social networking sites to appeal for supporting Earth Hour to their friends & relatives. Environment Summit at American School, New Delhi – In April 2012, environment club students with teacher in-charge participated in the Environment Summit organized by American School to seek solutions for dealing with issue of „plastic waste‟. Scientists like Marcus Eriksen, Lindsey Jura, Jordan Howard from the „5 GYRES‟ narrated facts and trained them to become future warriors to solve the problem of plastic disposal which is a threat to land and water bodies.

Earth Day 2012 - To mark Earth Day, Environment Club of our school organized various activities from 13thto 25th April 2012 in order to develop environment-conscious mentality and as a reminder to save Mother Earth. a) „A wall‟ was put outside the Shankar Lal Hall and students were asked to write slogans related to environment on it. The best slogan was awarded. b) „Best from tetra pack waste' - Creativity was put to a test and students undertook a truly difficult task of creating something using waste materials. Marvelous models were created like Buddha under the Banyan tree, the Taj Mahal, Arctic sea shore with endangered species. c) 'Battigul', an upcoming group of environmentalists under the guidance Swechha (NGO) organized 'The Green Horns' festival at our school to further raise awareness. d) An inter-house quiz on enviornment related issues was organized. Tagore House emerged as the winner whereas Shastri House and Nehru House claimed the second & third prizes respectively. e) An informative documentary film was shown to Middle School students followed by an interactive session by officials from „Battigul‟ and Center of Science and Environment. f) Our budding student environmentalists attended the earth day celebrations at TERI and witnessed a presentation by Mr.Robert Swan, a reputed polar explorer and environmental leader. g) On 23rd, a Green Career Counseling session was held where everybody was made aware of all the upcoming possible green jobs one can do that can help save the environment and mint heaps of money. i) A chart was put up for „Green Imprints‟. Students were required to put a green thumbprint on the chart, each, hence making tree, symbolic of our endeavour to a sustainable lifestyle. j) Our campaign ended with a performance by our School Band and a Skit put up by our student environmentalists to remind everyone that water is a precious and scarce gift given by God and every drop of it should be saved. Eco Slate Programme - A group of 13 students (S7) of Environment Club have enrolled for „Eco Slate Programme‟ being conducted by I‟Dreams in collaboration with IIM, Ahmedabad, after school hours in school premises. The programme includes eight informative sessions on the topics – i) Introduction to Sustainability ii) Climate Change and Impacts iii) Carbon Footprint – How to build your own Carbon Calculator iv) Introduction to Energy and Electricity v) Energy Audit – Inventorying vi) How to do Energy Audit of School vii) Minimization Plan viii) Report presentation and concluding discussion. As a part of the programme, each student is expected to individually do one project of „carbon footprints‟ at home. Each student is also expected to be a part of a group project on „energy auditing‟ in school. On successful completion of the programme, these students will be awarded a certificate of diploma in environment care by Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.

Green Olympiad – Thirty six students undertook Green Olympiad test conducted by TERI in August 2012. In September 2012, a „Short Film-Making‟ competition on „How to Protect Antarctica‟ and „How to Make Tetrapack Recycling Fun‟ was organized by TERI as a part of Project SEARCH. Vidisha Aggarwal (S6) won the second prize for her film „Arresting the Big Thaw‟ and she was felicitated as an Ambassador by a renowned explorer, Robert Swan, in Pune and attended various events & workshops. Experiential Learning in Environment Students of classes S1 to S3 attended „Breakeven‟ workshops in school conducted by Swechcha (NGO) in September 2012 to sensitize them about garbage disposal. They were later taken for a field trip to Bhalsava garbage dump to see the reality. A unique educational trip to Bodh Gaon (Alwar) was organized from 30th th September to 4 October 2012 for students of class S4 on a journey of exploration, reflection and action into rural India. „Yamuna Yatra‟ is another experiential trip that will be organized for students of classes S5 & S6. They will be shown the origin point of the „Yamuna‟ with crystal clear water and later polluted state of the river in plains. FASHION TECHNOLOGY CLUB During the year, workshops and talks by experts were held for students pursuing Fashion Technology in senior school. They were also taken to the Crafts Museum and to a Footwear Design & Development Institute in NOIDA. GRAPHICS CLUB Members of newly formed Graphics Club put up an exhibition in school show- casing their art of graphic prints and the work done by them. HERITAGE CLUB ‘DAROHAR’ Our students participated in a short film making competition on the topic „Our Heritage‟ organized by INTACH in November 2012. In months of April and May 2012, members of our Interact Club visited the NGOs – Ozanam Home, Cheshire Home, Can Kids, Mobile Creches and Action for Autism for giving

Our Interact Club members are also actively involved in the voluntary work for various other NGOs viz. Goonj, Polio Plus Programme, Helpage India, India Vision Foundation etc. On 30th June 2012, Rotary International District 3010 organized an event „Shukriya‟ to applaud the dedicated services of the Rotarians. During this function, our Interact Club members were honoured. Meher Tandon was given the title „District Interact Representative‟ and Akshat Arora was awarded the titles „Zonal Interact Representative‟ and „Best Interactor‟ (Male) for his dedication to the cause of the Rotary. Interact Club annually organizes a symposium on any social issue. This year the Club had its symposium on the theme „Help and Educate about Autism Related Tribulations‟ (H.E.A.R.T.) on 4th August 2012. Numerous activities viz. Panel Discussion, Poster Making Competition, Power Point Presentation, Essay Competition, One Act Play and Extempore were be held centered around the topic which will motivate them to play an active role in the society. Twenty four students of our school have qualified to receive the „Gold‟ Award for the I.A.Y.P. KIDS FOR TIGERS PROJECT

A slide show and a video clip on „saving tigers and environment‟ were shown to the students of Middle School during assembly on in December 2011. It was

followed by a talk by an environmentalist from K.F.T. laying emphasis on the need to conserve both. As a follow up of this, 200 post cards and two big cloth banners will be sent to the Minister for Environment with messages showing concern by our students on the subject. On 9th December 2011, five students of Middle School will be taken for a nature trail to Aravali Biodiversity Park and two of them will participate in the quiz to be held there. From 28th March to 2nd April 2012, twenty one students from Middle School escorted by teachers - Mrs.Deepika Parashar, Mrs.Harleen Chadha and wildlife Conservationist Bharat Goel, Ankit and Prayas, visited „Todoba – Andhari Tiger Reserve‟, District Chandrapur, Maharashtra. During this educational trip, every day they went for jungle-safari where they closely observed the wildlife. It was a sensitizing trip and the experience touched hearts of everyone. On 15th April 2012, seventy five students of Middle School attended „Tiger Festival‟ held at Shri Ram School, Gurgaon. They participated in various competitions – skit, music, fashion show, photography etc. Seventy students from Middle School participated in a live programme held by NDTV at National Museum of Natural Sciences on 15th July 2012. Our students participated in workshops and shared slogans, poems and their experience at „Tadoba‟ with everyone. Mr.Bittu Sahgal, Editor of Sanctuary Asia and a renowned environmentalist, addressed our students to sensitize them to save „Mother Earth‟ in July 2012. „MOD-MUN 2012‟ was organized by our school from 20th to 22nd October 2012. Over 50 reputed schools from India and abroad participated in the conference. Mr.M.Pallam Raju (then Hon‟ble Raksha Rajya Mantri), presently Hon‟ble Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Govt. of India, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and addressed the delegates to set the tone of the conference. MOD-MUN simulated over seven committees. NATURE CLUB The Nature Club celebrated „Earth Week‟ in April 2012 by planting trees in school. PROJECT CITIZEN CLUB Every year, the Project Citizen Club of our school undertake a project on a matter of civil concern to promote pro-active citizenship among young students. This year‟s project was on „Underage Drinking and Smoking‟ for which the students researched, attempted to formulate a public policy and recommend the same to the government to take action. Our school has, for the third consecutive year, won the „Outstanding Project Award‟ during a function held in Ramjas School, R.K.Puram, New Delhi in November 2012. PAPER TECHNOLOGY Our Paper Technology Department conducted a workshop for almost hundred students and fifteen teachers of American Embassy School from 23rd to 27th April 2012. Every day, a different group of twenty students and three teachers attended our workshop and the activities taught included pulp making, recycled paper making, marbling, origami, quelling etc.

During summer vacation, a workshop on paper technology and calligraphy was held from 14th May to 1st June 2012. Thirteen students across classes attended the same learnt paper making, marbling, starching, origami, quelling etc. They also made products like picture frames, pencil holder, chit box, file cover, paper tray, paper bag, jewellery box, paper weight, spiral writing pads, designer envelopes etc. from recycled paper. An exhibition of all products was put up at the end of the workshop for parents. PAINTING CLUB Ridhima Mukim won the third prize in a philately painting competition organized by the Postal Department of India in November 2011. Our students participated in the painting and sculpture competition held by Modern School, Vasant Vihar in December 2011. Vanshaj Chauhan (S3) won the first prize and Gayatri Kathuria got the second prize. Siddhant Bajaj was given a consolation prize. Our students took part in the art competition conducted by Ambience Public School in July 2012. Tanya Wadhwa & Prachi Jain won the first prize in „Best out of Waste‟ event. Aahaan Sakhuja (S6) and Anurag Bagga (S6) won the first and the second prize in a quiz on „genetics‟ conducted by the XV Genetics Congress Trust, as a part of their Orientation Programme on „Genetics & Biodiversity‟ on 8th May 2012 Our team of students from Middle School - Mehar Haleem, Aatmik Gupta, Aryaman Sud and Dhruv Dhohatti secured the first position and won the junior category of MODQUIZ organized by Modern School, Vasant Vihar on 21st July 2012. students and organized its annual inter school quiz contest th th „Unquestionably Modern‟ on 9 & 10 October 2012, in which over 700 students from over 40 schools participated. The event had senior and junior categories and the contest for „Kamla Bose Memorial Trophy‟ was an academic triathlon (comprising of two rounds of quizzing and one round of extempore) open to only Modern Schools. The event provided more than a peek into Indian‟s rich cultural tapestry with concerts, intensive talks, movies, yoga sessions etc. A „Heritage Walk‟ to „Ghalib Ki Haveli‟ was organized on 11th February 2012 for forty students of class S5 of our school by Ms.Swapna Liddle, a known Historian, from SPIC MACAY. To mark World Dance Day, Mrs.Rama Vaidyanathan, a celebrated Bharatnatyam dancer was invited to present a lec-dem to our students during assembly on 27th April 2012. Mrs.Leela Venkatraman, a dance critic, was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The gurus interacted with our students the riveting dance performance was relished by everyone. A workshop on „Madhubani‟ painting was organized from 1st to 4th May 2012 in school. Thirty eight students from classes S1 to S4 learnt the art by the artists - Mrs.Pushpa Devi and Mr.Anirudh Kumar. Two students of our school attended the SPIC MACAY‟s Gurukul Anubhav Scholarship programme in June 2012 at Chinmaya Vibhuti Ashram, Kalvan, Pune. Sonakshi Chhabra (S3) learnt „Dhrupad‟, an ancient form of Hindustani classical vocal music by Ustad Fariduddin Dagar and Ishita Gupta (S5) learnt „Kathak‟ by Pandit Birju Maharaj Ji. TRIPS/TOURS CLUB During the year, the Trips and Tours Club organized well planned outdoor educational trip to Pondicherry, Chennai and Bhopal. Various adventure camps were also organized for students to places like Jim Corbett National Park, Ram Nagar, Ranikhet, Mussoorie. Rock Climbing & Rappling, River Crossing, Flying Fox, Trekking, Obstacle Course & Demonstration Based Lectures on Outdoor Survival were the highlights of these adventure camps. WRITERS’ GUILD Writers‟ Guild is a recent initiative of the school with a small group of over 25 students where creative writing drills were experimented with them and later, through workshops, the pieces of their own writings were critiqued by the rest of the members of the group. This exercise culminated with 17 finished pieces of creative writing that has been culminated in the form of an anthology.

‘KAMLA BOSE AWARD’ FOR LEARNING BEYOND CLASSROOMS Five projects were received by Mrs.Sanjana Mulla, the teacher in-charge of Kamla Bose Awards. The team comprising of Lavanya Bahl, Vishrut Malhotra and Uday Mudgal won the award for their project titled „Mankind a Marvel‟. ‘SARDAR BHAGWANT SINGH AWARD’ FOR EXCELLENCE IN RESEARCH Eleven projects were received by the teacher in-charge Mrs.Bina Ramanujan. The first prize was won by the project titled „Forensic ScienceFire Investigation‟ made by Anandita Wahal and Ananya Sachdev. The project titled „Hyper-Viruses‟ made by Konishjit S.Bedi, Ashwyn Singh Chadha, Raghav Bhalla and Siddharth Aggarwal, got the second prize. INTRA SCHOOL ACTIVITIES Middle School conducted various competitions viz. classroom board decoration, skit, extempore (Hindi), general knowledge quiz etc. and activities like mock drills on „earthquake safety‟ and „safety after disaster in general‟ for its students during the year. The festival of „Lohri‟ was celebrated at the Principal‟s residence on 12th January 2012. The holy fire was lit and students of Middle school performed Punjabi folk dances. The boarders of the school hostel also joined the celebrations. School bid farewell to students of class S7 (batch of 2012) on 19th January 2012. A Leadership Camp for over hundred „on-duty‟ students of S6 was organized in school on 15th and 16th April 2012 for selection of „Senior „Prefects‟ for the session 2012-2013. The leadership skills of the participants were assessed through various activities such as adventure, leadership games, extempore, creative session, dressing up of the boards etc. Over eighty students were selected as „Senior Prefects‟ on basis of their performance in the camp followed by an interview with a team of teachers. In association with „Scholastic India Pvt.Ltd., our library department organized a „Book Week‟ in school from 16th to 21st April 2012. Justice Leila Seth and Dr.Ashok Vajperi, Chairman, Lalit Kala Academy, were the Guests of Honour at the inaugural function. Workshops on Story Telling & Cartooning were conducted by Ms.Paro Anand and Mr.Ajit Narayan respectively. However, workshops on Poetry Writing and „Getting Back to Reading & Value Sharing‟ were conducted by Ms.Nupur Awasthi and Ms.Udita Chopra respectively. Students of class S2 were also taken to the American Centre. Leadership skills of over fifty „on duty‟ students of S3 were tested from April to August 2012 through tasks given to them such as decoration of S1 classrooms, taking care of S1 students, extempore, group discussion, interview with the Head Mistress etc. Badges were given to the selected „Junior Prefects‟ during a special assembly in August 2012. The school celebrated the Teachers‟ Day 5th September 2012.

CO-CURRICULAR & INTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES Hasaan Ejaz (Drums), Sahil Vashishta (Keyboard), Raghav Dutt (Bass Guitar), Arjun Monga (Guitar - Rhythm), Reuben Datta (Guitar – Lead) and Shivish Soni, Yashna Kaul, Ramita Chatterjee vocally represented our school band. They won the „Best Band‟ prize in an interschool band competition held at British School in December 2011. Our students participated in a band competition - „Battle of Bands‟, organized by

Woodstock School, Mussoorie in March 2012. They won the „Best Band‟ award with a cash prize of Rs.10,000/-. Raghav Dutt got the „Best Bassist‟ award and a cash prize of Rs.2,000/-. They took part in a band competition organized by I.I.P.M. Cicero‟s School of Rock in May 2012. We won the „Best Band‟ award with a cash prize of Rs.5,000/- alongwith an acoustic guitar. A group of nine students - Paarth Gupta, Dhananjay, Tanmaye Soni, Divya Aggarwal, Kavya Mehndiratta, Prateek Kher, Gayatri Dhiman, Nitya Garg and Ambika Pandey participated in an interschool French Song Competition organized by the Ahlcon Public School, Mayur Vihar in July 2012. Our students won the third prize in the competition. In August 2012, Shivish Soni won the first prize in the solo singing category in a western music competition held at St.Thomas School, New Delhi. Shivish Soni is also the winner of the „Best Vocalist (Male)‟ award in the western music competition organized by Don Bosco School, New Delhi in September 2012. Shivish received the second prize in solo singing category at the western music competition conducted by Sanskriti School, New Delhi in September 2012. 9.

GRADUATION CEREMONY Graduation Ceremony for students of Class S7 (batch of 2012) was held on 17th January 2012. It was attended in large numbers by parents and grand parents. The Graduation Day address was delivered by Dr.Syeda Hameed, an exemplary Modernite and presently a Member of the Planning Commission, Government of India.

EXPLORATION OF NAV-RASA In order to explore and understand the essence of „Nav-Ras‟, the school attempted to interpret it through poetry, song and dance. The theme was well researched and the show was presented by our students on 28 th April 2012 at the Amphitheatre of our school. Mrs.Sheila Dikshit, Hon‟ble Chief Minister of Delhi, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Pandit Birju Maharaj, Padma Vibhushan Awardee, a renowned Kathak dancer and a dance veteran, was the Guest of Honour.

INDEPENDENCE DAY Our school celebrated the 65th Independence Day of our country on 14th August 2012. Mr.Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission, Government of India, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Flag hoisting and Chief Guest‟s Address to the students, talks in English & Hindi, roopak titled „Jinhain Naaz Hai Hind Par Who Kahaan Hain?‟ and performance by the school choir were the highlights of the celebration.

BLOOD DONATION CAMP The Interact Club, in association with Rotary Club of Delhi „Rendezvous‟ and the Rotary Blood Bank, organized the 31st Annual Blood Donation Camp on 13th October 2012. Dr.Kiran Walia, Hon‟ble Minister of State for Education, Social Welfare, Women & Child Development, Languages, was the Chief Guest and inaugurated the camp.

The camp was a huge success collecting over 250 units of blood. An excellent ikebana exhibition was put up by our students at the camp. 13.

92ND FOUNDER’S DAY (1ST PART) The 1st Part of the school‟s 92nd Founder‟s Day was celebrated on 31 st October 2012. The highlights of the celebrations were elaborated exhibitions on i) „Art & Craft‟ on the theme „Mosaic‟ by the departments of Paper Technology, Woodcraft, Sculpture ii) „Robotics & Electronics‟ by eight Houses – Akbar (Writing Robot), Ashoka (Security Alarm System), Azad (Automatic Toll Tax Payment), Gandhi (Voice Controller Car), Lajpat (SMS based Voting Machine), Laxmibai (SMS based Device Controller & Mobile Sniffer), Nehru (Automatic Energy Saver), Pratap (Robotic Arm in Action) iii) Fashion Technology iv) Home Science v) Paintings vii) Eye for „I” Space – 20 master pieces displayed by 20 students showcasing their talents in different areas like photography, sketching, origami, m-seal art, quilling art etc. The celebrations also included a western music ensemble and an experimental theatre titled „Andha Yug‟. Dr.Ashok Vajpeyi, an eminent poet & author and former Chairman, Lalit Kala Academy, was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

HOUSE FUNCTIONS Ranjeet, Shivaji, Subhash, Tilak and Tagore Houses have celebrated their biennial functions and Shastri and Patel Houses will hold their function in November/December 2012. All the House Masters deserve appreciation.

GAMES & SPORTS ANNUAL SPORTS DAY The Annual Sports Day of our school was celebrated on 3rd December 2011. Mr.Ajay Maken, Hon‟ble Minister of State (Independent Charge) Youth Affairs & Sports, Govt. of India, consented to be the Chief Guest, but due to some unavoidable reasons, Mrs.Maken graced the occasion in his place. Mr.Ashok Pratap Singh, President, Board of Trustees, Modern Schools presided over the function. Over hundred national level players of our school, who have represented Delhi State in various disciplines and those who have got positions at the „National‟ level, received the award from the Chief Guest. The event

also witnessed the March Past by students of classes S5 and S6 representing the fifteen Houses of the school. Students of classes S1, S2, S3 and S4 performed Yoga, Rainbow Drill, Taekwondo & Drill respectively. An inter-house Athletics Meet was also a part of the Sports Day. SUMMER SPORTS CAMP A summer camp in sports was held for our students from 14th May to 1st June 2012 in the disciplines of Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Chess, Cricket, Football, Hockey, Lawn Tennis, Squash, Table Tennis and Volleyball. Over 250 students attended the camp. The summer camp for Swimming, however, continued till 15th June 2012. XXXVI LALA RAGHUBIR SINGH HOT WEATHER CRICKET TOURNAMENT „XXXVI Lala Raghubir Singh Hot Weather Cricket Tournament‟ was held in School from 30th May to 12th June 2012, in which twelve prestigious teams of North India competed. Mr.Ashok Pratap Singh, President, Board of Trustees, Modern Schools, inaugurated the tournament and the Closing Ceremony was graced by Mr.Arvinder Singh Lovely, the then Hon‟ble Minister of Education, Transport, Languages. P.T.A. Members of the P.T.A. initiated a „Book Bank‟ drive this year again by sending SMS to all parents. In April 2012, they collected used books/extra books from students to be used by our junior students and by NGOs working with under privileged children. PTA Dinner, annual event of the School, was organized on 14th April 2012 for parents of Middle School and on 20th April 2012 for parents of Secondary & Senior School. Both were well attended by teachers and parents. P.T.A. Academic Award functions were held on 23rd and 24th August 2012 to honour academic achievers of the year 2011-2012 from classes S1 to S7. Mrs.Geetanjali Chanda; Member; Board of Trustees; Modern Schools and Mrs.Ketaki Sood; Member; Board of Trustees; Modern Schools and also a Member of our Managing Committee, were the Chief Guests. 329 awards were given to 267 students for their meritorious academic performances during the year. PTA Sports Award function was held on 6th September 2012 to honour sportspersons who brought laurels to the School during the year 2011-2012. Mr.Pushkar Vohra, Dy.Director (Sports), Central Board of Secondary Education, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and gave away prizes to sportspersons.

M.S.O.S.A

Modern School Old Students‟ Association organized its annual debate on 28th November 2011. Over ten reputed school of Delhi participated in the competition. Arjun Verma and Chahat Kapila represented our school in the junior category andthe team was declared as the „Winner‟. Arjun Verma was adjudged the „Best Speaker‟. Senior team of our school was represented by Gayatri Sabharwal and Pranay Lekhi. The team got the „Runners Up‟ title and Gayatri Sabharwal was chosen the „Best Speaker‟. M.S.O.S.A. held its 8th Annual Interschool Invitational Mohini Virendra Singh Squash Tournament from 6th to 12th December 2011. Our school‟s teams U-19 and U-13 were declared the winners and U-15 got the runners up title. M.S.O.S.A. also conducted its 8th Annual Interschool Invitational Hockety Tournament from 6th to 12 December 2011. Our school‟s team got the Runner Up title and Keshav was given the „Best Player‟ award. MSOSA organized its Annual Sports Day in school on 18th December 2011. Present Modernites played matches with former Modernites in various games i.e. badminton, basketball (boys & girls, cricket, football, hockey, lawn tennis, squash etc. Present Modernits won the matches in badminton, basketball (girls) and football and got the runners up title in lawn tennis. Our girls and boys both won the 4x100 mt. relay race. 18.

MODERNITES’ TRUST Hritika Jimmy, Khyati Mehra, Sanyukta Bhattacharya & Varun Khurana were awarded 100% scholarship whereas Pratika Rawal was given 50% scholarship by the Modernites Trust and were admitted to class VI.

Sir, before I conclude, I wish to state that in keeping with the Lalajee‟s vision, we continue to carry on the tradition and maintain high standards. We have not only produced academic toppers but also have sports persons of National and International levels amongst the students on our rolls. This has been made possible by the dedicated and untiring efforts of our Headmasters - Mr. Giri, Mrs.Vijai Singh, Mrs.Malini Khatri, Mrs.Rita Gupta, Dean – Academics & Examination – Mrs.Neera Kapur, Dean-Physical Education - Mrs.Meena Joshi and her team, Dean Co-curricular Activities – Mrs.Usha Nair, the HODs, the Housemasters and all the teachers.
