Review Committee on Education in

Radiologic Technology The Kaskaskia College Radiology Program will have their JRC/ERT site visit on February 18-19, 2010. The two site visitors will go to two of our clinical sites, meet several clinical instructors at the college, and have a phone conference with the clinical instructors that are located farthest from the college. The program’s records and the correlation of didactic and clinical education will be reviewed at this time. JRC/ERT accreditation is the HALLMARK that tells you an educational program is committed to academic excellence, health care quality, and patient and professional safety.

The JRC/ERT is the only organization recognized by the US Department of Education to evaluate and accredit education programs in radiography and radiation therapy.

Many programs have regional accreditation which evaluates the overall quality of a college or university, but it is not intended to address the specific classroom and clinical requirements for programs in the radiologic sciences.

There are ten schools recognized by the AART for obtaining the required education for becoming a registered Radiologist Assistant. These schools are located in the following states: PA, TX, OH, NJ, VA, CA, CT, AR, NC, and UT.

The ARRT ’s Standards of Ethics is being looked at more closely than ever. Students and RT’s should understand the importance of ethical practice. Exam disclosure is a hot topic. Discussing questions on a registry exam can lead to becoming ineligible for ARRT certification.

CT Registry Review– Back by Popular Demand: AGAIN! Many radiographers have asked the program to offer the CT registry review class this upcoming fall and the spring semester. The ARRT is requiring that anyone passing a registry exam after January 1, 2010 will have to take a ―refresher‖ exam every 10 years. Tammy Stevens has been doing CT for many years and is extremely knowledgeable concerning this modality. She will provide the information and education needed for

a radiographer working in CT to pass the boards. This class is not for a radiographer who has no experience in the field. This is a review class so students should have some background information concerning CT. Flyers will be mailed to past graduates and hospitals concerning

this class. This course will be offered on Thursdays from 5:30 to 8:30 pm March 18th through May 6th. This is a two credit course worth 32 hours of CEU. The cost of the course is $162.

Instructor: Tammy Stevens, B.S. R.T.(R)(M)(CT)

Radiology Club volunteers and lends a hand for multiple events The radiology club’s students have volunteered and participated in many activities at the college. Some of those activities include: ●Backpacks for underprivileged kids. (We donated 21 filled backpacks to go to area 1st-3rd graders) ●Ring bells for the Salvation Army (soph students donated 36 hours of their time to help raise funds for Christmas this year.)

●Penny Wars between all clubs— Pennies are for positive points and silver coins are negative points. The Radiology students have done a great job with providing pennies to our jar and silver to others. Every club is donating a portion of the precedes to a charity of their choice. We are supporting the Make-A-Wish

RADIOLOGY WEEK NOVEMBER 8-14, 2009 The radiology students did several events during the week of November 8-14 to celebrate Radiologic Technology Week. The students sold raffle tickets and the winners received gift cards to Wal-Mart. The winners were Zach Hund $150, Jayden Markus $100, Gerg Moulton & Paula Conrad both won $50. The money raised from this event (and other fundraisers) helps pay for the students to attend the ISSRT

Conference that will be held in Normal, IL on April 14-16, 2010. The students also provided cups filled with candy to each clinical site. This little gift shows the appreciation that Kaskaskia College radiology faculty and students have for the technologists who work with us everyday. We appreciate your support for the education of our students!

foundation. ●The students also attended the Enduring Freedom Celebrationheld at Kaskaskia College in remembrance of Veteran’s Day. Cara Polczynski (Mimi’s daughter) sang the National Anthem.
