ABOUT AUTHOR JANICE N. ADAMS lives in Maryland with her husband and two children. She began writing as a hobby at the age of twelve, journaling the adventures of her childhood and that of her siblings and friends during the 1970’s, 80’s and 90’s. Janice’s journals were more than a recap of her day. They were intriguing accounts of their lives, African-American kids who migrated from the urban neighborhoods of Richmond, VA to the newly developed suburbs of west Henrico County, her hometown. Even in her youth, Janice’s gift to write enabled her to compose her journal entries into stories like the fiction books she read. In later years, her journals became the inspiration of her professional writing career. A serious writer, Janice continues to breathe life into her characters. A Heart’s Journey: To Quench a Thirsty Soul is her first published, fiction novel but is not her first major publishing. Janice collaborated with New York Times bestselling author, Zane to contribute to Zane’s 2008 anthology, Another Time, Another Place, a riveting collection of five novellas by five of today’s hottest African-American authors. Her creative talent is showcased in her novella, A Twisted State of Mind, a story that takes readers on a sensuous and steamy adventure through the subconscious of a young lady. In 2008, Janice established JAVISTA BOOKS and is now author and publisher. In addition to A Heart’s Journey: To Quench a Thirsty Soul, Janice published two, nonfiction books of inspiration, About My Father’s Business and About My Father’s Footsteps that were released Spring 2009. She is currently preparing two new fiction novels for publication. Undeniable Passion is the sexy sequel to A Heart’s Journey, and Hale and Fury is an urban street drama. Janice has a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Her professional career spans over twenty years in the areas of project management, information technology, and organizational assessment. She has worked with major corporations as well as federal and state government agencies. When Janice isn’t writing, she spends time with her family and friends. She enjoys photography, interior design, sports, music, and movies. Janice’s debut novel, A Heart’s Journey: To Quench a Thirsty Soul, was released in November 2008. The book appeals to people interested in sultry literature that inspires, empowers, and entertains. It’s a must read for women everywhere. For more information about author, Janice N. CUSTOMER REVIEWS (A Few Samples) www.janicenadams.com T Welch said: April 27th, 2009 8:23 am I read "A Heart's Journey." It was so captivating...I couldn't put the book down (read it in a day and a half...who needs TV when you have a good book to curl up with). I can't wait to read the sequel "Undeniable Passion." Thanks for the great story Janice! It was really nice meeting and talking with you! A. Caraway said: January 30th, 2009 10:07 am I am so happy I bought A Heart's Journey. It is helping me deal with my own relationship issues and I am looking forward to reading Undeniable Passion. Thank you for sharing your talent. G. Bell said: January 27th, 2009, 10:39 pm Janice Adams, I loved your book “A Heart’s Journey”. It kept me on edge! Cierra is very particular about her man and knows what she wants and not what she wants as well. Your verbiage and articulation in capturing the reader’s attention is amazing! Can't wait for the next book that is a continuation. C Keaton said: January 9th, 2009 2:20 pm "A Hearts Journey" is a good read for any mature adult. The explicit details allow the reader to visualize being one or more of the characters. My heart goes out to the main character as she experiences her highs and lows. The insight to her prayer life is amazing and adds a great twist to the book. If you've never prayed about lovemaking, you'll find the honesty and openness of the prayers to be eye opening. This book will make you smile, laugh and even cry. Can't wait to see Part II. www.BarnesandNoble.com By glowster Enjoyable!! Reader Rating See Detailed Ratings Posted January 27, 2009, 9:07 AM EST: I enjoyed Ms. Adams book “A Heart’s Journey” completely and await the second book in this mini series. Although I understand the emotional struggles of the main characters, there were times that I wanted to knock all of their heads together and yell "wakeup." www.Amazon.com By Renee R. AUTHOR Q & A 1.

How does a writer create a “page turner”? Live with an adventurous spirit and release your creativity with excitement, suspense and drama. Keep the reader guessing with every chapter. Be engaged with the world around you and let it explode on the pages before you. Step outside the box and read books and magazines you would never normally read, do things you would not normally do, spend time or talk to people you would not normally communicate with, or visit new places. There’s so much to be gained. Lastly, make each page more enthralling then the one before it.

2.

How did you end up writing? I’ve been interested in writing since the age of twelve. I was the youngest of three and my older siblings didn’t always want me around them. So, when my friends weren’t available to play, I would write about everyone in my journals in a book like fashion with quotes, themes, plots, characterization, settings, tone, etc.

3.

What are your novels, A Heart’s Journey and Undeniable Passion about? They are contemporary fiction novels about maturity, passion, and love of oneself and others. The story centers around a young woman named Cierra Sykes, who is on the fast track in corporate America. She’s smart, beautiful, and career oriented, but haunted by heartache and disappointment. The storyline unfolds her struggles and triumphs with her lovers and family. The story takes place during the late 80’s and early 90’s. It’s written for people interested in sexy, sultry African-American literature that inspires, entertains, and informs. The uniqueness of these stories is the insertion of down-to-earth prayers and conversations Cierra has with God that reveal her spiritual growth and understanding of who really is in charge and why.

4.

How concerned are you with the tone and the shape when you’re drafting? I generally develop a loose outline and have a good idea about the storyline I want to write. Then I let my imagination and creativity develop the characters, events and scenarios. It’s fun to see the story unfold itself.

5.

Looking at the book now, what surprises you? What surprises me the most right now is the overwhelming interest people have in my writing and the books. It’s one thing to have family and friends read your material and comment. But when complete strangers give you rewarding comments, it’s a wonderful feeling. 43 Randolph Road #152, Silver Spring, Maryland 20904 Phone: 301.910.2539 | Fax: 301.570.4719 www.javistabooks.com

Javista Books “Live with a song in your heart and a book at your fingertips.”™ 6.

What’s the next book? About My Father’s Business – This is a book of inspiration based on a compilation of my church memoirs. I’m also working on my third fiction novel, an urban street drama that’s guaranteed to keep readers on the edge of their seats.

7.

Having made your debut with A Twisted State of Mind in the anthology Another Time, Another Place presented by Zane, people say, “Newcomer, Janice Adams is hot.” How do you view what they are saying? I’m excited that the readers like the novella. Twisted was the first erotica story that I’ve ever written. To receive such positive feedback is wonderful and a blessing. I feel like I hit the mark and gave the readers something they enjoy.

8.

During rewrites, do you find that you’ve surprised yourself with your characters in the sense that they are doing things you didn’t expect? Most definitely, part of what I enjoy most is when the story takes on a life of its own and I’m writing to keep up with what the characters are doing. I love it when they surprise me.

9.

What are you reading? I’m reading the chronological version of the NIV Bible. I thought it would be neat to read how biblical events unfolded from start to finish in addition to the traditional bible format of the various books. I’m also re-reading Addicted by Zane. She has a movie coming out based on the novel and I wanted to refresh my memory about the story. And lastly, I’m reading The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren. I started it a while ago but want to finish it.

10.

Why write a book? In addition to it relaxes me, I’m able to entertain people and give them exciting stories that they can laugh, cry, discuss and share with others. As my motto goes ‘Live with a song in your heart and a book at your fingertips.’ Writing brings me peace.
