Because of YOU!

I

To try to wrap up all of our gratitude in one simple word is simply impossible! What we have accomplished in the past has all been because of you. The plans we have for the future depend solely on you. Our loyalty, our accountability, and our efforts are for you... because of you! But who are you? You are that friend that always remembers our needs in your prayers and is constantly in the lookout for our needs. You are that caring friend who sacrifices your free time to come and help us out as a volunteer. You are constantly thinking of ways to help us, whether it be by sharing our needs with others or by organizing a full scale fundraising event. You are even that generous partner who has made it a priority to send in a financial gift every month. You have even gone as far as including us in your will. As we start this new year we humbly and gratefully thank you! The year 2007 had many ups and downs, but it sure was comforting to know that you were right there with us. This year we'd like to dedicate it to you. Parallel to our pledge and dedication to serving the needs of our community's homeless and needy, we'd like to pledge to you a year of integrity and hard work. With God's help and your help we will continue to Build a Better Community!

Barbara Rochester is Citizen of the Year! We're proud to announce that Crossroads Mission's own Barbara Rochester was named Yuma County 2007 Citizen of the Year!!! As Public Relations, Special Events, Thrift Store, and Volunteers Director she is one of the busiest persons at Crossroads. We've known all along how great her passion to help others benefits the entire community and not just Crossroads. Congratulations Barbara - you deserve it!

You Are Our Partner!

hank you! As we see the sun setting on 2007 and move into the New Year, we are acutely aware of how important our partners are to this ministry. Every newsletter is printed for our partners but this one is especially dedicated to you! Our partners whether individuals, churches, or businesses, have provided money, services, and goods to help us serve over 2000 people with a variety of the many services offered here at the Mission. We served over 117,000 meals this year with your help. As we face the coming year, we have already heard that it will be a tough year because the economy is so unsteady. I believe that God provides for us through folks like you! We came through a tough summer but just when I was wondering how God would pull us through that empty pantry, a group of the local youth in a 4-H group came in with the first food drive of the season. Time and again, when my faith was shaky, God provided through folks like you with money to support this ministry. May God bless you for your generosity and thoughtfulness. I hope you have heard that Crossroads Mission’s very own Barbara Rochester was voted Citizen of the Year, 2007 and was the featured front-page story on New Year’s Day in the Yuma Sun. Barbara’s dedication to helping the needy, the frail, and the elderly is awesome. Barbara’s job list is long. She is Crossroad’s Public Relations Officer, Volunteer Coordinator, Special Events Coordinator and the Thrift Store Director. Her ability to get things done is incredible. Even Barbara will tell you that she can’t do what she does without the great support provided to her by the employees and volunteers at the Mission. I thank God for putting together a team that is great at serving this community by helping individuals and families. We are blessed to have many folks just like Barbara who work or volunteer at Crossroads. God bless you in the New Year! Please remember us in prayer as we continue to help the disabled, disadvantaged and disadvantaged individuals and families achieve a better quality of life. ♥

And the winners are...

E

Each year Crossroads Mission goes through the difficult task of selecting winners for the yearly recognition awards. The 2007 Employees of the Year winners are: Jennifer Bischoff, Case Manager; and Ronnie Adams, Data Entry Coordinator. Jennifer works directly with participants of the New Life Recovery Program and helps with their paperwork, goals, and appointments. Ronnie works in the Recovery Program also and is in charge of all the entering and billing. Congratulations and thank you both for your great work! The 2007 Department of the Year was awarded to the Human Resources Department. Though this is only a three person department, a lot of things happen there, from hiring new employees, to training, and entering donations. Tammy Bayne, Coordinator; Claudia Lugo; and Diana Klein are the great ladies in HR. Awesome job! Finally, our Volunteer of the Year for 2007 is Thelma Franklin. Thelma has been volunteering at Crossroads since 2001. She answers our phones and greets guests at the Men's Shelter. She's been a Yuma resident for 31 years and decided to help Crossroads when one of her friends told her we were in need of a receptionist and she hasn't left since. When we asked her what keeps her coming back she says, "It keeps me busy, why not be here? They need me, it works both ways, I don't like sitting at home." Thank you Thelma, you are an example and an inspiration to us all!

The 3 Days of Tha giving n ks

W

Our biggest celebrations of the year, the 3-Days of Thanksgiving and the 3Days of Christmas kicked off on Tuesday November 22. This year we had to set up the events in a smaller area due to the construction of the new Level IV Substance Abuse Center (detox center). It was a tight fit but people came and went in a constant flow during the three The 3-Days of Thanksgiving hours that food Day 1 Meals Day 2 Meals Day 3 Meals was served 660 780 1,040 each day of the

celebrations. The menu for both celebrations was the same: flavourful Mexican food for the first day, on the second day delicious roast beef, and succulent turkey on the third day. We had plenty of desserts and drinks, thanks to our volunteers and donors. We even had fresh flowers on Thanksgiving Day courtesy of a local flower shop. A total of 2,480 meals were served in just the 3-Days of Thanksgiving, and 2,760 meals in the

& the 3 Days of Ch 3-Days of Christmas! It seemed like we wouldn't have enough but in the end everything was perfect. We got to spend time with many of our "regular" friends and guests, and we also met many new people. We brought some clothes, blankets, jackets and even furniture from our 2nd Chance Thrift Store and from the many drives we have had throughout the year. Many of our guests after enjoying their holiday

meal, went home with a new change of clothes, a jacket, a blanket, and sometimes even a much needed furniture piece! There was live music, and karaoke that many dared to be a part of. The children especially enjoyed riding the American Legion train, and many of the adults didn't pass up the opportunity either. Both celebrations The 3-Days of Christmas were truly a Day 1 Meals Day 2 Meals Day 3 Meals blessing and 690 920 1,150 great success.

Thank You!

To all the members of the Yuma County 4-H Group for their donation of clothes, diapers, toilet paper, toiletries, and nonperishable food items.

Thank You! TO YOU!!! Your support during the last three months has been wonderful. We could not have done the many special events and provided as many services without your help. Our promise to you is one of accountability, transparency, and good stewardship. Did you know that for every dollar you donate to Crossroads Mission, only 3 cents are used for administration costs? We are careful on how we spend because it's not our money - it's your money, and God's money!

Thank You!

Quilts, Quilts & More Quilts! If you've ever been to our shelters probably the first thing you noticed is that all of our beds are covered with cheerful, beautiful, hand-made quilts. We'd like to thank the wonderful quilting ladies who put love in every stitch and brighten up our beds and our guests lives. The Minnesota Quilters (above) donated 24 quilts, and the quilting ladies from the Gila Mountain United Methodist Church donated 86 hand-made quilts! God bless you!

To Allen Brown for his generous donation of two parcels of land for the purpose of offsetting the costs of building the new Level IV Transitional Center. Allen (center) with the detox staff and Barbara Rochester (left).

Thank You!

To Jerry & Lynda Kinner for once again collecting donations for Crossroads at their hometown in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada. This year they had to travel with an even bigger UHAUL, full of clothes, shoes and more. God bless you!

Thank You: Partners in the Kitchen Remodeling Project!

To Candy Camarena, Attorney at Law, for his generous donation of $5,000.

To the Wives of Submarine Veterans of WWII club for their donation of $620.

To Farm Credit Coorporation for their donation of $750

Our kitchen is in desperate need of repairs, updates, and remodeling. With more than 10,000 meals cooked every month, it's a miracle it's lasted so long. With the help of our many partners, we are making plans to take on the remodeling challenge this 2008! Please keep us in your prayers and consider being our Remodeling Partner.
