During the field season of 1988, one of the authors (J.M.S.) collected a n almost complete skeleton of a crocodyliform from the Adamantina Facies of the Bauru Formation (Turonian-Santonian) at Irapuru, State of S5o Paulo (CAMPOS & MARTIN SUAREZ, 1988). The specimen consists of a n almost complete skull, the middle portion of a mandible, a partial vertebral column (lacking most of the tail), and limb elements, making this one of the most complete crocodyliform specimen found in Brazil so far. The fossil was preserved in coarse sandstone of white color. Based on microfossils, a post-Cenomanian to pre-Campanian age is suggested for the outcrops of the Adamantina Facies in the region of Presidente Prudente, Alvares Machado, and Ibira in the State of SSo Paulo (DIAS-BRIT0 et al., 1998), which includes those strata. It should be noted new data on ostracods of the lower sections of the Adamantina Facies have been recently dated a s Campanian - Early Maastrichtian. (GOBBORODRIGUES et al., 1999). When it was found, CAMPOS & MARTIN SUAREZ (1988) regarded the specimen labeled DGM 1477-R a s a possibly new taxon, closely related to Baurusuchus pachecoi Price, 1945, a s a member of the Baurusuchidae. In this paper we confirm that view and briefly describe this new taxon, which represents the second record of this crocodyliform clade in Brazil. A more detailed description of this material, including the postcranial bones (still in preparation) will be presented elsewhere. on July 06, 2001.
