Dr. Alexander Wrabetz DIRECTOR GENERAL OF THE AUSTRIAN BROADCASTING CORPORATION, ORF

The numbers can hardly get any better: about 700 museums, galleries and cultural institutions open their doors on Saturday October 5th for the 14th “ORF Long Night of Museums”. Almost all of them have prepared special exhi bitions and events for you. To whet people’s appetite for art and culture and to provide them with a wide spread offer – from folk culture to the avant-garde – this is one of the core areas of the ORF, which we fulfil with outstanding commitment and high professiona lism: With our TV programme, which has been topped off with ORF III, a channel dedicated to culture and information, since 2011, with our radio programmes including Ö1, the most successful cultural radio channel in Europe, which fills us with pride, and FM4, the channel dedicated to contemporary culture off the mainstream, and with our online services, the Vienna Radio Symphony Orche stra and numerous cultural events of the ORF regional studios and at the ORF Radiokulturhaus in Vienna. In its diversity, the ORF is the most important cul tural agent of the country, and the “ORF Long Night of Museums” is an annual highlight which has become an integral part of the cultural activities in Austria. I want to thank all cultural institutions, sponsors and partners for the success ful cooperation, the ORF team for their excellent organisation, and I wish you an entertaining “ORF Long Night of Museums”.

DR. BRIGITTE WOLF HEAD OF THE REGIONAL ORF STUDIO VIENNA

On October 5th, the “ORF Long Night of Museums” marks its 14th season, and this time again there are numerous possibilities to get an overview over the cul tural richness of Vienna, for discovering something new or for deepening one’s knowledge. 129 museums and cultural institutions, in Vienna alone, invite art lovers to a nightly tour. ORF Vienna is accompanying the visitors through this “Long Night” and pro viding the music for the shuttle buses. The Funkhaus (broadcasting centre) also opens its doors again: In the course of backstage tours, starting halfhourly from 6 pm on, visitors may get to know the inside of a broadcasting station and have a look into the studio during the Radio Wien special broad cast, which is focused on the Long Night from 8 pm to 1 am, with hit songs and evergreens and live coverage from the museums. In the “Yellow Box” at MuseumsQuartier, a Radio Wien DJ ensures good moods. In the run-up to the “ORF-Long Night of Museums”, the TV programme “Wien heute” has delved into places in museums which mostly lie hidden from visi tors. It presents storage rooms and people without whom the museums would not be what they are. During the “Long Night”, “Wien heute” reports from the last preparations in the museums, provides live coverage and will offer a follow-up report with highlights on October 6th.

Current exhibits: “MATISSE AND THE FAUVES” The highly expressive works of Henri Matisse and his young artist colleagues, who are today counted among the pioneers of Modern ism, can be seen for the first time in Vienna in this exhibition. “GOTTFRIED HELNWEIN” The extensive retrospective provides insight into all the work phases of the Austrian artist, who is primarily famous for his hy perrealistic paintings of wounded children. “ALBERTINA CONTEMPORARY” Contemporary art from the holdings of the collections of the Al bertina, including works from Gerhard Richter, Georg Baselitz and Anselm Kiefer, are presented in the Contemporary show. PARIS AROUND 1900 – THE WORLD OF MATISSE IN THE ALBERTINA In the “ORF Long Night of Museums”, Montmartre atmosphere dominates in the Albertina. Street performers and musicians find their way into the Albertina palace. Visitors can have caricature portraits of themselves made. CHILDREN’S PROGRAMME – WILD PAINTING (6 PM–9 PM) In the children’s studios, kids can try out the painting methods of the French Fauves with a palette of colourful, powerful paints.

The Old Vienna Schnapsmuseum, which has been in the posses sion of the Fischer Familiy for five generations, offers a unique insight into the tradition of schnaps and liqueur production. The tour through the museum – from the office from 1904 to the old distillers from the 19th century – provides interesting facts about schnaps and will also carry visitors away to the good old days of the monarchy. Some of the recipes of the Friedrich Fischer distillery date back as far as the 19th century and have been traditionally passed on from father to son. The Old Vienna Schnapsmuseum continues the tradition of liqueur production. It specializes in absinthe and came out with the new products Manner and rum cocos liqueurs. GUIDED DISTILLERY TOURS Guided tours of the museum will be offered every 30 minutes. Start of the first tour: 6 pm, start of the last tour: 1 am.

On its 1,000 square metres of exhibition area, bahnorama, a joint project of the City of Vienna and the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB), offers information about the future Vienna main station and its new neighbourhood. At bahnorama, neighbours, travel lers, children and experts will all find answers to their questions. Apart from a 3D flight simulation over the whole area and an impressive movie summarising the project, the highest walk able wooden construction tower in Europe is another highlight of bahnorama. From its 40-metre-high viewing platform, you will enjoy not only the breathtaking panoramic view of Austria’s largest construction site but also a magnificent view over Vienna. A VISIT TO THE VIEWING PLATFORM GUIDED TOURS ON THE HOUR (6 PM–12 AM) MAKING BAHNORAMA TOWERS FOR CHILDREN (6 PM–9 PM)

The Bank Austria Kunstforum is the top address for art lovers, especially for classical modern painting of the post-war years. Every year, 250,000 people visit the temporary exhibitions held in this private institution, shows that are unique across the globe. Leading museums present their works here as well as private col lectors. Whether van Gogh or Miró, Kandinsky or Chagall, Warhol or Lichtenstein, the great names of art are united here. Since 2000, there have also been exhibitions devoted to contemporary artists. EXHIBITION: “JÜRGEN MESSENSEE” Jürgen Messensee, born in Vienna in 1936, is one of the leading artists of contemporary painting and graphic arts in Austria. Na ture has always been his inspiration, above all the human figure. They are coded appropriations of nature, which then manifest themselves for instance as female swimmers, catamarans or mouths. In recent years, Messensee has augmented drawing and painting with the reproductive process of the jet print. What mat ters to him is the displacement and manipulation of perception: what is real and what is fiction? DIALOGUE TOUR (7.30 PM) With curator Florian Steininger and Jürgen Messensee. BAWAG P.S.K. / WAGNER:WERK Museum Georg-Coch-Platz 2 1018 Vienna www.ottowagner.com 0 / 599 05–22500 The building of the Postal Savings Bank, which was built from 1904 to 1912, is considered the main work of Art Nouveau ar chitect Otto Wagner. Countless details such as the world’s largest cast aluminium sculptures measuring 4.5 metres on the roof of the building’s main facade, innovative materials, like aluminium, glass and linoleum, and above all, a completely new style of archi tecture based on functionality make Otto Wagner’s building of the Postal Savings Bank a key example of modern architecture. With this late work, Wagner has become one of the internationally most influential architects of the 20th century. Additionally to the permanent exhibition in and around the “Small Banking Hall”, the WAGNER:WERK Museum also designs and organises temporary special exhibitions in the “Large Banking Hall”, which deal with the architecture and design history of the 20th century. HISTORICAL ROOMS (7 PM–12 AM) For the first time, the historical and listed rooms – the staircase of the management, the governor’s room and the large conference room and the hallways leading there – will be open to visitors. Every half hour, guided tours to the first floor of the Postal Savings Bank will be offered.

In small groups visitors are led through completely darkened rooms by blind or visually impaired guides. Due to absolute absence of light everyday situations turn into an appealing adventure… With sharpened senses you will hear sounds in a new intensity, feel the wind on your skin, and smell the forest floor like never before. At the end of the tour you can even stimulate your taste buds in our dark bar! GUIDED TOURS – LIMITED NUMBER! (6 PM–12.30 AM) Tours begin every 10 minutes with max. 8 participants. At 6 pm, reservation cards for the tours will be handed out, max. 320 spots. Reservation cards only available after presentation of tickets for the “ORF Long Night of Museums”. Children are very welcome – however they do need a reservation card, too. FILM AND PHOTOGRAPHY “Blind Vision” is an art project by Ralph Nachtmann starring blind photographers who photograph their surroundings by intuition, the camera being an intermediary between the world of the blind and the sighted.

The rich and diverse holdings of the Cathedral and Diocesan Museum, Vienna, comprise art and artifacts from the Middle Ages to the present. Scheduled to reopen in 2015, it is currently being converted to designs by architect Boris Podrecca and given a new orientation by its new director, Johanna Schwanberg. THE CONSTRUCTION SITE During the “ORF Long Night of Museums”, visitors will have a chance to walk the empty halls of the building, marvel at Stephans platz square from a different vantage point, and see the future museum take shape. Artist Hubert Lobnig will show an art project titled “The Construction Site”. It will focus on the conversion proc ess itself: Projections of people carrying heavy loads will be cast onto a large-scale installation made from building materials, sug gesting analogies to the iconography of the bearing of the cross. Photos, videos, and text will shine a light on the precarious lives of workers, often with a migratory background, as well as the city as a place of incessant innovation, speculation, and gentrification. TALKS AND GUIDED TOURS (ON THE HOUR) With artist Hubert Lobnig and director Johanna Schwanberg.

Endoscopy is a diagnostic method to examine the interior of a hollow organ or cavity of the body by means of inspecting it with endoscopes. These medical devices can consist of either a rigid tube with an illumination system and an optical system or, if it is the flexible endoscope (fibre endoscope), of bundles of fibre optics. The endoscopes serve the diagnosis and make biopsies and surgical procedures at sight possible. Endoscopy can be ap plied in the urinary tract (cystoscopy), the stomach (gastroscopy), intestine or colon (rectoscopy, colonoscopy), the respiratory tract (bronchoscopy), the abdominal cavity (laparoscopy), the organs of the chest (thoracoscopy) or the interior of a joint (arthroscopy). The development and use of endoscopy from its beginnings to the present are documented in the world’s largest collection of endoscopes in the Nitze-Leiter Research Society, primarily original devices (endoscopes and equpiment) and images are on display. SPECIAL GUIDED TOURS Special guided tours, explanations and presentations of the vari ous devices will be offered.

Ferry Ebert’s Museum for Grandchildren & Exhibition of Coin-Operated Machines Beckmanngasse 7 1140 Vienna www.ferryebert.at 0664 / 13 00 405 Apart from the exhibition of coin-operated machines from the childhood of today’s parent and grandparent generations, an homage to children and especially grandchildren will await you in this unique museum: For 50 years, the installation of coin-operated machines for sweets, chewing gum, condoms, break-open lottery tickets and fairy tales has influenced Ferry Ebert’s professional career and thus a large part of his life. When getting older, he realised that growing life and the quality of time played a much more important role for him than success in his job and materialistic ambitions. Every visit of his grandchildren, the gleam in their eyes and their hearty laughter have become unforgettable experiences for him. As a grandfather, he therefore sees his contribution to a safer world in giving time and love to children and grandchildren while they are growing up – which is reflected in Ferry Ebert’s Museum for Grandchildren. “May the machines on display remind you of your youth and may the children’s treasures, which I have col lected for my small Museum for Grandchildren, bring joy to your hearts!” (Ferry Ebert) PROGRAMME (NON-STOP): • Storytellers • The Gnome-Choir • “Radomir Runzelschuh’s Fairy Tale” – Video projection. • “Books & Fairy Tale Letters” – Bazaar.

Imperial Family, Court and State Archives Minoritenplatz 1 1010 Vienna www.oesta.gv.at 01 / 53 115–25 16 The Haus-, Hof and Staatsarchiv was founded by Maria Theresia on Sept. 13th, 1749 and, in the course of its history, has grown into one of the great institutions of historical research known world wide. Here Carolingian diplomas can be found as well as essential treaties of the organisation of Europe – for example the Peace of Westphalia or the Final Document of the Congress of Vienna, which has been included in the “Memory of the World” register by the UNESCO – the first print of Luther’s Theses, family correspon dences of the Habsburgs and reports of imperial diplomats from all over Europe and overseas. Apart from the material about the history of the Habsburg Empire, original historical documents from Germany, Italy and the Ottoman Empire represent the biggest part. In its beginnings, the archive was situated in the Reichskanzlei wing of the New Imperial Palace and several repositories outside. In 1902, all holdings were united in a functional building at Minoritenplatz, the repository wing of which constitutes a first-rate technical monument. SPECIAL EXHIBITION Selected documents of the Habsburg history. The Kiesler Foundation was founded in 1997, with the aim to ex plore and convey the multi-facetted heritage of the artist, architect and designer Frederick Kiesler (1890–1965). Besides its research activity, the Kiesler Foundation organizes symposia and exhibi tions on contemporary art, design and architecture. PAUL T. FRANKL – A VIENNESE DESIGNER IN NEW YORK AND LOS ANGELES Paul T. Frankl (1886–1958) influenced like no other the design of American Modernism. In the mid-twenties he succeeded in New York with his “skyscraper” furniture and design gallery. As of 1934 he designed apartments for the high society in Hollywood. Paul T. Frankl is scarcely known in Austria – the exhibitions aim is to recall him and his oeuvre into the cultural memory of his birthplace! SKYSCRAPER BOOKCASES, SKYSCRAPER DESKS, SKYSCRAPER BEDS… WORKSHOP (6 PM, 7.15 PM and 8.30 PM) Young designers from the age of 6 up build models of skyscraper furniture, which will be presented in the exhibition. The workshop is led by artist and pedagogue Beatrix Preissl: 3 units à 5 partici pants.

Gustav Klimt’s œuvre is part of an international canon of motifs. Yet, where did he actually create these works? The Klimt Villa Wien houses the studio which the artist used from 1912 up to his death in 1918. At today’s address of Feldmühl gasse 11, he rented a summer house where he, according to his own words, was “labouring” on his works. The house itself has had an unsteady history and has been revitalised on the occasion of the Klimt year 2012. A permanent exhibition about Klimt’s studio is on display, the only one located at one of his former places of work in Vienna. From 1911 until his death in 1918, Gustav Klimt painted some of his most important works in his studios in Feldmühlgasse. At that time it was still a single-level cottage, which was renovated and turned into a neo-baroque villa by its owner in 1923. SPECIAL GUIDED TOURS (7 PM, 8 PM and 9 PM) Of the Klimt Villa Wien. The Kunsthalle Wien is the institution of the City of Vienna dedi cated to international contemporary art and discourse. SALON DER ANGST Not just since 9/11 and the world economic and finance crisis has angst been a part of our everyday lives. Angst is a political instrument and infiltrates the rhetoric of security and threats. The representation of angst and terror is a motif well established in the history of art, but it is also very characteristic of a younger genera tion reacting to a changed society with new fears and insecurities. The exhibition aims at stimulating a debate about the fears of our time, and the diversity of their affective and socio-political implica tions. Fear presents itself as a response to aspects of the present we do not know how to manage. CURATOR’S GUIDED TOUR (8 PM) With director Nicolaus Schafhausen. The Künstlerhaus of The Association of Austrian Artists, one of the oldests artists’ associations in Europe, sees itself as a platform for contemporary artistic and cultural affairs in Austria; as Vienna’s exhibition place for diversity, discourse and experiments. INTERNATIONAL PANEL DISCUSSION (7 PM) “What is (good) art?“ EXHIBITION OPENING (8.30 PM) “Retrospective Alfred Kornberger, 1933–2002” IN-FORMATION – HEY PRODUKTION! (from 10 PM) The new event series of the Künstlerhaus, curated by Christian Hel bock, asks the invited artists and curators for information on the approach to their work and asks them to present it performatively: For today, the department of performative art of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna (Prof. Carola Dertnig) has been invited.

As an exhibition and project space, Kunstraum NOE stands out by being open for projects either experimental or across genres. It is an artistic research area and, at the same time, a vivid space of communication for art lovers. EXHIBITION “INNENAUSSENINNEN / DER NICHT DIGITALE VIRTUELLE RAUM” / THE NON-DIGITAL VIRTUAL SPACE Artists: AOund, Siegrun Appelt, Beatrix Bakondy, Kathrina Dankl, Aldo Giannotti, Thomas Gronegger. Curator: Christian Knechtl. In 1980 at the Linz Design Forum, Lucius Burckhardt was already postulating that “design is invisible”. With the essay of the same name he was the source of inspiration for the term “social design”. “Reduction”, “density”, “pause” symbolise a current societal devel opment. The exhibition INNENaußenINNEN addresses the incorpo ration of social fields, regional forms of action and local optimums in the drafting and design process and focuses its attention on the “analogue inner space” and the human body as a precise instru ment for the perception of surrounding information spaces. around Ringstraße in a vintage tram 1010 Vienna www.rentabim.at

MuseumsQuartier Wien, Museumsplatz 1 1070 Vienna www.leopoldmuseum.org 01 / 52 570–0

The historical Viennese trams illustrate the development of urban public transport in Vienna. 14 of the exhibits of the VEF (“Ver band der Eisenbahnfreunde”, the association of train lovers) are included in the extensive collection of the Vienna Tram Museum at Erdberg. Further 15 carriages, which were built between 1913 and 1963, are being used for extra tours. Two authentic trains were assembled from this stock, identical to the ones operated on Vienna’s Ringstraße for many decades. One of the two trains is a typical “M-Dreiwagenzug” (three-carriage train) from 1929, which once gave the tram lines A, Ak, B and Bk their characteristic appearance. The second one is another three-carriage train just like the ones that were used on the lines J, T and D. The vintage trams are marked with “Lange-Nacht-Bim” and will operate on Ringstraße and Kai between 6 pm and 1 am in clockwise direction. Discover the history of Vienna’s municipal transport firsthand in this museum in motion. RIDES IN 15-MINUTE INTERVALS From the stops Oper, Burgring, Bellaria, Börse, Schwedenplatz, Stubentor, Schwarzenbergplatz.

“KOKOSCHKA – THE SELF IN FOCUS” An artist’s life in painting and photography with photos from the Oskar Kokoschka Centre of the University of Applied Arts. In the exhibition, photographs and photographic series enter into a fas cinating dialogue with the artist’s famous paintings and drawings. THE LEOPOLD COLLECTION Additionally on view: The world’s largest Egon Schiele collection and the extensive exhibition on Vienna around 1900 – an Art Nouveau showcase with the main works of Gustav Klimt, as well as painting, crafts and furniture of the Secessionists supplemented by original documents and photographs from that time. NIGHT READING HERBERT FÖTTINGER AND PETER TURRINI (11 PM) Föttinger and Turrini read from “Aus Liebe” (Out of Love) in front of the stage design from the Theater an der Josefstadt, from “Die Schichtarbeiter” (The Shift Workers), Aurora Art Gallery, Vienna.

Loft8 is a platform for young Austrian and international art. The focus lies on exhibitions of Austrian or Austrian-based artists and the temporary use of the premises on the basis of the concept of an artist-in-residence programme for international artists. EXHIBITION “IN CONTACT – MOVEMENT AND DRAWING” The artworks on display deal with different approaches towards movement. Birgit Knoechl’s ink drawings leave the two dimen sional sheet in order to take possession of space. Due to the varying elasticitcy of the paper, the organic and crystalline forms of her exuberant hybrid archive are changing. In her drawings and in the performance “In Contact”, Anna Maringer explores the development of consciousness, approaches, contexts and experi ences through body perception and reflection. Natascha Renner deals with tangled lines created by the wind, leaving the thematic interpretation of her drawings open to the recipient. LIVE-PERFORMANCE (7 PM) Anna Maringer.

In its unique form, the collection of the look Magnet Museum combines miniature reproductions of the main works from many international museums and art collections. In a construction that was especially built for the museum, changing exhibitions offer an approach which is simple and entertaining on the one hand, yet scientifically based on art history on the other, and invites visitors to look, learn and discuss. EXHIBITION: “HOTSPOTS OF PAINTING” Montmartre in Paris, the Grand Canal in Venice, the Charing Cross Bridge in the London mist – what do these places have in com mon? They are true magnets for artists, actors, actresses and com posers – multicultural centres in fact. This does not only become obvious in today’s appearance of the cities, but also in paintings from different eras. The focus of the exhibtion lies on hotspots of painting, but also on lonely places which have served as motifs and inspiration to artists throughout the centuries. GUIDED TOURS FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS Offered by the museum’s director Max Spohn personally, on demand. Life at the markets in Vienna was already very busy back in the Middle Ages. Names of streets and places in the first district still commemorate those former market places: Hoher Markt, Fleisch markt, Bauernmarkt, etc. The organisation and regulations of those old market places were frequently mentioned. But who was responsible for their compliance? Since the year 1839, it has been the Market Office of the Municipality of Vienna. The Museum of the Market Office of the Municipality of Vienna, which was re-opened only in 2012, gives an insight into this long period of existence. Pictures of market places from the past and present are on display. Formerly used measures are explained and visitors are invited to try and lift a centner. Scales that are about 130 years old or even older can be tried out and/or inspected. Historical and modern food controls are illustrated with pictures and the tools used. Different models, some of which date from the 19th century, are on display, e.g. wax models with potato diseases or coffee beans made from dough. IN THE LABYRINTH OF COLOURS AND SOUNDS – REFLECTIONS ON MOZART AND GOETHE The current special exhibition demonstrates the multi-faceted con nections between Mozart and Goethe on the basis of documents, letters, depictions of nature and books from their estates. The presentation of the topic is supplemented by a modern picture cycle. The Museum of Aspern-Essling offers an overview of the military conflict between the French and Austrian troops in May 1809. It exhibits a documentation of the circumstances, displaying differ ent sorts of weapons, uniforms, bullets and several pictures of the military leaders. In 1858, Archduke Albrecht, son of Archduke Karl, had a monument erected in order to remind people of the victims of that war. This monument, the Lion of Aspern, was built by the artist Anton Fernkorn. The lion is portrayed lying on French war flags. The French Eagle and the flags are the symbols of the French cavalry. The animal’s head is positioned on a French helmet. The lion symbolises the brave soldiers who fought, won and died. The victory of the German soldiers over the French army is represented by the oak leaves around the pedestal. In the face of the dying lion you can read melancholy and anger, strength and steeliness in its posture. Pressing his nails into the stone, the animal is dying. “SCHLACHT VON ASPERN” The oil painting “The Battle of Aspern” by Clara Both will also be on display. It is a present given by Dr. Hans von Wimpffen for the 200-year anniversary. CONCERT IN FRONT OF THE MUSEUM

Under “natural” circumstances, a woman has approximately 15 pregnancies in her lifetime, resulting in ten births, depending on health, sanitation, housing conditions, access to clean water and proper nutrition etc. Approximately seven of those ten births survive childhood. For economic, social or other reasons, most people neither presently nor historically want so many children. For all generations and in most cultures, regulating the number of offspring has been and remains an essential issue. To do so, contraception, abortion and infanticide have been practiced. Most women/couples have had and still have little or no access to effec tive contraception or safe abortion – conducted under “State of the Art” conditions. This is only possible if abortion is legalized, otherwise it will (again) be performed on hidden kitchen tables. The first and only museum of its kind (First awardee of the Ken neth Hudson Award from Trustees of the European Museum Forum) displays the struggle for control over fertility – from early centuries to the present with a glance into the future. The museum aims to provide a greater understanding of the power of fertility and the necessity of regulating it. GUIDED TOURS (from 6 PM)

The high altar by the “Schottenmeister”, featuring the oldest topographically accurate representation of medieval Vienna, is particularly worth seeing. The exhibition also includes numerous paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries and the time of Biedermeier in Vienna, and also furniture and liturgical utensils. The frescoes on the ceiling were finished in 1730 by the court painter Daniel Gran. The Austrian Film Museum (OeFM) is a cinémathèque, its exhi bitions take place on screen: Films, the most important form of expression over the last 115 years, achieve their full potential only through the projection on a movie screen – be it as object art, a documentation or popular entertainment. With its film collections and screening programmes, the OeFM has become a central point for film lovers, an energy centre for film education, with publica tions, audience discussions with international film artists and the country’s largest library of film literature. A JOURNEY THROUGH THE WORLD OF FILM In exciting and surprising 20-minute programmes, the Austrian Film Museum offers its guests a journey through the world of film and its history of more than 100 years. The shows will start in halfhourly intervals. CHILDREN-FRIENDLY PROGRAMME Films for a young audience will be shown until 9 pm.

The Austrian Museum for Horticultural History is located at the his torical Orangery of Kagran, hosting exhibits related to the history of horticulture and floristry on over 500 square metres of exhibi tion space. The special exhibition in 2013 is dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the Türkenschanzpark. “SCENT – SMELL – STENCH IN THE GARDEN” Many garden lovers are enthusiastic about the versatile world of fragrance of many plants. Plant odours range from sweetly rosy to aromatically resinous to unpleasantly pungent and they say: “Come closer!“ or “Leave me alone!“. People also love these aromas in good food, cosmetics and in their gardens. The music school Donaustadt, the plant protection department of the Wiener Stadtgärten and the Austrian Horitculture Society offer an atmos pheric and informative “scented” programme. Ms. Gräven von Mondblume advises you on smell essences and Petra’s rosarium presents the scent embassador par excellence: the rose. CHILDREN’s PROGRAMME Scent quiz; making air fresheners, scent bags and herb salt your self; torch expedition; binding flavoursome potpourri bouquets. Adults may take part, too.

TIP_ Delicious home-made sandwiches and refreshing drinks will be offered at the film bar. In the shop of the OeFM next door, visitors can purchase rare and unusual film posters and books. The Liechtenstein City Palace is the first major High Baroque building to be erected in Vienna. Innovative technological refine ments such as mirrored doors that could be reversed or raised to gether with massive chandeliers, opulent Rococo Revival interiors and superb parquet floors designed by Michael Thonet are today still objects of wonder. The two upper floors are accessed via one of the finest and most imposing Baroque stairways in Vienna. Vienna Police Museum – Museum of the Vienna Security Guards Marokkanergasse 4 1030 Vienna 01 / 531 26–4719 The Vienna Police Museum emerged from the exhibits of a police showcase in 1898, on the occasion of the 50th jubilee of emperor Francis Joseph’s ascension to the throne. Initially housed in the (old) Police Department on Schottenring, it was relocated in 1904 into the prestigious premises of the newly constructed office building on Elisabethpromenade (now Roßauer Lände), then was transfered again in 1938 and in the course of the war it was almost completely destroyed. In the 1970s, the remaining old stock was updated and got re arranged in a 200-square-metre-large hall of the Marokkaner Casern. The presentation shows the development of the Vienna Police – Security Guard Department since their establishment in 1869 by means of weapons, uniforms, documents, pictures and diagrams. The progress was intimately related to the history of the Marokkan er Casern (founded in 1770), which, since the takeover by the Po lice in 1921, has also been housing the educational department. NONSTOP: FILMS FROM THE YEARS 1928 TO 1937 Training, 60-year ceremony of the Vienna Federal Security Guard, airship “Graf Zeppelin in Vienna”, fire of the Rotunda, and more. The Porcelain Museum at Augarten, Vienna’s oldest baroque garden, was opened in the summer of 2011 as Austria’s first porcelain museum. It illustrates the history of Viennese porcelain from different eras on the basis of representative historical exhib its. More than 150 splendid pieces document the development of Viennese porcelain from the foundation of the second oldest manufactory in Europe in 1718 until today. The exhibition “City walk – country ride: Viennese views on porcelain” complements the programme on offer with miniature vedutas of city portraits and landscapes on porcelain. PRESENTATION OF A MASTER PAINTER (6 PM–11 PM) In the “ORF Long Night of Museums”, a master painter of the Por celain Manufactory Augarten demonstrates the method of figure painting at the Porcelain Museum Augarten. The figures, which are painted by hand, bear the signatures and creative preferences of each individual painter and thus every single figure is unique. GUIDED TOURS OF THE MUSEUM (7 PM AND 9 PM)

Immerse yourself in Vienna’s history of popular entertainment – part charming, part spooky – at the Prater Museum. On show are amusing exhibits and curiosities, such as the fortune-telling machine of a “Matchmaking Agency” and a dragon figure from a demolished ghost train at the Prater amusement park. The “Gi ant’s Suit” and the “Living Half-Lady” are reminders of once-pop ular sideshows. Though disturbing to modern eyes, they attracted many curious onlookers to the Prater in days gone by. The know ledge of the production of Schlumberger sparkling wine has been cultivated with great care and constantly refined at Schlumberg er’s since 1842. Robert Schlumberger acquired this fine art, as it is also used in the Champagne region, in France’s oldest Champagne wine cellar and brought this secret to Vienna. SCHLUMBERGER OPEN THEIR DOORS: Hourly visitor tours of the redesigned cellar worlds offer information on the origin and production of sparkling wine and Champagne, on the correct storage and the secrets of tasting. In the cellar cinema, you can immerse yourself into the world of sparkling delights. In the course of a guided tour, you are taken through the impressive 300-year-old cellar maze, can shake the bottles on wooden racks and discover secrets about “degorgement” and “dosage”.

TIP_ In the course of a tour, you are given the chance to try the carefully cultivated Schlumberger Wine. TIP_ Discover the world’s biggest bottle of sparkling wine, a sparkling wine fountain from 1873, or have your picture taken as a cellarmaster when shaking the bottles. In Sigmund Freud’s former office and private apartment, the Sig mund Freud Museum presents an exhibition documenting the life and work of the founder of psychoanalysis. Here is where Sigmund Freud lived and worked for 47 years until he was driven into exile in 1938. Unique film material depicting the Freud family in the thirties can be seen in a video room, while original objects from Freud’s belongings, including his office’s waiting room and parts of his extensive collection of antiquities, make tangible the sur roundings in which his patients were analyzed and a new science was born. TREATMENT AND TECHNIQUE Information points in the house and the courtyard deliver infor mation on psychoanalytic treatment and techniques and offer the possibility to take up a role as a psycho analyst or a patient. GUIDED TOURS EVERY HOUR

Since November 2005, the Vienna State Opera has had its own museum, where the history of the house on the Vienna Ringstraße since its opening in the year 1968 is being documented. Upon entering the museum, you are guided into the world of opera by portraits of current and former singers. In the museum, you are taken on a journey through time from the past of the opera house to the most important performances of the present. Stage designs, historical costumes and singers’ portraits tell you about the glorious history of the house. Photographs and play bills commemorate legendary opera nights and important events such as debut performances or first nights. Scores and correspond ences provide an insight into what is going on behind the scenes. Models of stage designs and costumes illustrate the making of a production. Special attention is given to Gustav Mahler, who was head of the Vienna Court Opera from 1897 to 1907 and who has decisively influenced the artistic profile of the house to this day. At three terminals, you can access the cast of all performances since November 1955. At stilwerk Vienna, right next to the Danube Canal in the probably most prominent contemporary landmark of the city, the design tower by architect Jean Nouvel at Praterstraße 1, design has turned into lifestyle since December 2010. The design tower rises above the Vienna city center like a sculpture. Depending on the cardinal orientation, the glass of the front of the building is differently coloured and cut, which results in different appearances of the outer surface in the course of the day and with every change of the colour mood of the sky. In the inside, the luminous ceilings by artist Pipilotti Rist accentuate the buiding in an extraordinary way. Another speciality of stilwerk is the green wall – a paradisiac vertical garden with 20,000 plants in the courtyard of the design tower, created by Patrick Blanc. Several times a year, stilwerk hosts exhibitions and presentations dealing with design, the cultural context and the people that represent the products on offer. “VOKA – SPONTANEOUS REALISM / ORIGINALS AND REPRODUCTIONS” / Live Painting Edition Werbach. ZOOM Children’s Museum MuseumsQuartier Wien, Museumsplatz 1 1070 Vienna www.kindermuseum.at 01 / 524 79 08 At ZOOM Children’s Museum, it’s all about asking, touching, ex ploring, feeling, and playing: in hands on exhibitions, issues from the realms of art, science, and everyday culture are prepared in ways that are geared to children. “ONCE UPON A TIME… THE MIDDLE AGES!” At the “ORF Long Night of Museums”, our hands-on exhibition “Once upon a Time… The Middle Ages!” will be open from 6 to 10 pm. Brave knights, noble castle maidens, proud cities, splendid castles and cathedrals – this is how we like to imagine the Middle Ages. But this time long past was also shaped by war, famine, plagues, hard labor, and bitter poverty. How did people live in the city or in the countryside? What professions did they carry out, what did their homes look like, how did they dress? At this exhibition, the children can try some honey, mint coins, visit an apothecary, and get to know other guilds. They can also learn about everyday life on a medieval farm or what working in an impenetrable forest was like.
