Regional Candidate Statement for Bruce Morgan Statement of Interest When I joined NCURA eighteen years ago, I only had one expectation – that I would gain access to a network of colleagues from whom I could seek advice and suggestions when I encountered new or particularly complex issues in my job. NCURA exceeded my expectations and has continued to do so ever since. NCURA is successful because of its fundamental structure and purpose. It is an organization that is run by its members with the primary purpose of serving its members. As a result, it is recognized as a global leader in advancing the research administration profession, as well as the premier organization for professional development and education programs for research administrators. Over the years, NCURA’s mission has remained steadfastly focused on providing research administration professional development, education, training and networking programs of the best value and quality. While this mission has not and should not be changed, the way in which it is fulfilled and the number of those benefiting from it are ever changing. If elected, I will work collaboratively with the national office, national officers, other board members and the leadership of the regions to act in the best interests of our organization and to ensure that NCURA achieves its strategic goals. Toward that end, I will work to: • • • • • •

Increase NCURA’s membership; Promote increased communication between its members; Continue to strengthen the national-regional partnership; Create additional global partnerships; Foster further expansion of its educational/professional development offerings; and Support the integration of new technologies and social media in the pursuit of our strategic goals.

I am honored to be a candidate for the NCURA Board of Directors representing Region VI and I appreciate the opportunity to continue to give back to an organization from which I have gained so much. Brief Bio Bruce started his research administration career in 1987 as Fiscal Officer of UCLA's Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. In June 2005, Bruce transferred to UC Riverside to join the Office of Research as Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research and Chief Financial and Administrative Officer. In October 2009, he returned to UC Irvine as Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research Administration. In his current position, Bruce is responsible for the overall direction and management of the Research Administration unit in the Office of Research, which includes Sponsored Projects Administration, Research Protections and Conflict of Interest in Research, as well as research administration data systems and training initiatives. He is UCI’s primary representative to the Council on Governmental Relations and serves on several UCI and UC
