Cloud 9 Beret and Scarf Designed by Nenah Galati This very chic and stylish beret and matching scarf is really easy to knit. If you have never knit a hat or need a refresher, we recommend Knitting Korner's Five Styish Hats DVD, which will take you step by step through the process of hat knitting! Also Sock I will show you the technique of knitting with two circular needles, in places where you would normally use DP's! Materials Recommended: 3-4 skeins of Cascade Cloud 9 Yarn Two Size 8 Needes, one 16", Gauge 4 Sts/Inch Stitch Markers as well as a tapestry needle Terms: Moss Stitch: K1, P1, than you P the Ks and K the Ps; K2Tog: K2 Sts together; Kitchener Stitch: For grafting top of hat, demonstrated in Knitting Korner's Sock I DVD. Beret: Cast On: (This pattern is multipes of 3) Small to Medium CO 72 Stitches; Medium to Large CO: 78 Stitches; Join these Stitches without twisting and place a marker

Work in Moss Stitch until piece measures 2" or desired width of brim. (Moss Stitch: Rnd 1: K1, P1, next round P the K Stitches and K the P Stitches. Increase Round: *K2, M1* around increase 1 additional St at the last Stitch 108(114) Sts

Body of Hat: Round 1 and 2:

K all Sts

Round 3, 4 and 5:

K3, P3 around

Round 6 and 7:

K all Sts

Round 8, 9, 10:

P3, K3 around

Repeat Rounds 1-10 4 times for a total of 40 rounds.

Shape Crown: Round 41: K all Sts Round 42: K3, K2Tog around, end K3 Rnd 43,44,45,46 K All Sts Rnd 47: K1, K2 Tog around Rnd 48,49,50,51: K All Sts Rnd 52: K2 Tog around K 1/2 Sts onto 2nd Size 8 needle, remove marker, (use same technique as knitting socks on 2 circulars) Rnd 53, 54 K all Stitches Rnd 55: K1, K2Tog Rnd 56: K All Stiches Rnd 57, 58 K2 Tog, until 5 Sts remain on each needle. Rnd 59: K all Sts Graft together using Kitchener Stitch or cut a 10 - 12" tail, thread tapestry needle, remove stitches from knitting needle to tapestry needle, as if the purl, pull gently to close hole on top. Place 2-3 stitches across the top, turn inside out, push needle through and do the same on the inside, weave in end. Matching Scarf This fun and easy scarf can be knit either wide or thin, by adjusting the amount of stitches you cast on, and you can determine if you want it long or short. The pattern is multiples of 3, For the scarf pictured above, I cast on 18 stitches which included three at each end for the border, which I knit in the moss stitch of K,P,K. Determine if you want a wide or thin scarf and CO the correct amount adding equal stitches for left and right border. Startng Border: Moss Stitch for 2" or desired width of Top/Ending Border. Terms: PM means place marker and TM means transfer marker Body of Scarf: Row 1 K,P,K PM, *K3, P3* to last 3 Sts, PM K,P,K Row 2,3:

Row 9: Repeat Row 4 Row 10 Repeat Row 5 Repeat Rows 1-10 for desired length of scarf than knit ending border same as Top Border. Bind Off loosely, fringe is optional
