CAR SHOWS with real cars, IMAGINERY SPORTS CAR RACING (Huh?) Let’s start with car shows.

WE HAD TO CANCEL ...or call it a postponement?

Sadly, we had to cancel this Saturday’s concert on the green at the PONY EXPRESS PLAZA. Project manager Pete Messimore of A HELPING HAND HOME CARE made the appropriate inquiries into the state of the area next door to the ruin of LOS HERMANOS and got the bad news. The insurance carrier for the property owner suggested that it would not be a good idea to have crowds near the building even though it has been fenced in and marked off with safety tape. Also, at least one tenant reports that if the wind is wrong, some of the residual smoke smells can be quite distracting and irritating, especially to someone with a sensitive respiratory system. Given all of that, it seemed that not only would the picnic (Continued on page 5)

CONCERT (Con’t from page 1) atmosphere we always have been sadly missing. Sadly, there is nowhere else that gives us the same outdoor charm. Kitty is sad about the cancellation, but fret. We’ll ask her back.

BAD FOR BUSINESS Comcast announced yesterday that it will be taking 1,000 out of California to neighboring states. The reason? Comcast is closing all of it’s call centers because of the high cost of doing business, and the high cost of living in California. This might not be a bad time to write members of the state legislature to ask what they have done to try to make the climate more business friendly. That’s 1,000 people who will not be paying California income tax, or county property taxes in whatever county they lived in, or buying goods from California merchants, or paying California sales tax. Call somebody. Ask if it’s true. Ask why. Ask for solutions.

AND THE WINNER IS?

The winner of the MOUNTAIN DEMOCRAT quiz, with an answer that came within less than three hours is Dan Dellinger. The rifle is a Henry.rifle made by the New Haven Arms Company. No, that’s not gold. The receivers were made of brass. A collector’s item now, a Henry in excellent condition with set you back somewhere in the neighborhood of $15,000.00 That’s U.S. dollars, not Confederate money. Modern replicas cost considerably less, under $2,000.00 Dan hasn’t picked his flavor of milkshake yet.

SANTIAGO TO TOUR THE AREA On October 2nd CEDAPP will host 2nd District Five Supervisor Norma Santiago as she gets an up-close-and-personal tour of the 5th Supervisorial District. The tour will start at 11 am and cover the homes and businesses that make up the bulk of Pollock Pines. As we’ve mentioned before, Pollock Pines is in Districts Five, Two, and a little bit of District Three. District Five is a huge area, covering roughtly everything from South Lake Tahoe and going westward to Pollock Pines. That gives her two key population centers, and a whole bunch of, well, mostly trees in between. After the tour Supervisor Santiago will meet with any local residents and business operators who have an interest in the future of Pollock Pines, and her plans for representing us (well that should be darn near all of us). Time and place for this meeting will depend on the response, so if you interested, please call CEDAPP Executive Director Jeanne Harper at (530)613-1332.

FAM TOUR POLLOCK PINES October 15th is coming and with it, our chance to inspire history and travel writers from all over the U.S. to write about Pollock Pines. Sponsored by the El Dorado County Visitor’s Council and CEDAPP, the tour will include a ride in an authentic 19th century wagon, with horses in the hands of a skilled teamster. The ride will be along history Pony Express Trail and will end with a meal at the historic SPORTSMAN’S HALL Experts in local archaeology and history, Pony Express riders, and El Dorado County Roses in 1850’s attire will help make these nationally know, big name writers familiar with the area and it’s history, thereby giving this tour the name: FAM tour. Residents are encouraged to join us for theis event. The only cost will be the cost of whatever meal you order at the SPORTSMAN’S HALL

JOB CREATION PLANNING On October 4th you will have a chance to be part of the El Dorado County Strategic Planning conference to find ways to help revitalize the economy in this county. The meeting will run from 11am to 12:30 pm.

GORILLA IN THE MIST? (Or maybe just chimpanzee logic)

LOS HERMANOS on fire. From the PRPond. Hangtown, Facebook http:// www.facebook.com/pages/HangtownCa/13427348388

The infinite monkey theorem states that a room full of monkeys hitting keys at random on typewriter keyboards for an infinite amount of time will almost surely type a given text, such as the complete works of William Shakespeare. The theory is often used as a popular illustration of the mathematics of probability. Scientists who take apes and monkeys seriously, and comedians, will tell you that you would quickly end up with a room full of typewriters covered in monkey poop. Which brings us to the fire in the building that housed the late, lamented LOS HERMANOS restaurant. A gorilla from down the hill in El Dorado County (I’ll call him/her Lazyfizz) has already decided that the fire was arson, and he all but named the suspect(s). To quote in part his/her response to ar item in a local publication’s article entitled: ‘VACANT Los Hermanos Restaurant in Pollock Pines Burns Down’, (Letters capitalized for emphasis) the writer states: “It seems fairly obvious, insurance claim by previous owner…...blah, blah, blah...double taxation...blah...not worth it for the business owner anymore.” The writer finishes by stating that he/she would do the same, burn it down, collect the insurance. “ Really? Investigators are still looking at the fire but Cheeta already knows who did it? For insurance money? Is this conclusion based on chimpanzee logic or gorilla logic? It certainly can’t be based pm information from arson investigators because we have no information from arson investigators We don’t even know

that the arson investigators have any information. We don’t even know that there are arson investigators on this case. What we have is a news article that says the vacant restaurant burned. What else do we know? The restaurant had been vacated so there was nothing to burn but the building. The operators of the restaurant were leasing the building from the property owner, so they had no insurance on the building. The property owner is not likely to have wanted to burn the building since it had a spectacular interior and was ready for someone to walk in and get it running. I too have heard rumors about the property, and none of them point to the property owner as being one who would get any advantage from a ruined building. So, Lazyfizz. May I suggest that you exercise a little caution before slandering either individuals, or whole communities? The internet makes it so easy to lob cruise missile cheap shots from over the horizon where you can remain unknown and not be held accountable for your careless accusations. And for those who might know who you are, now they know, thanks to your own admission, that you would be willing to commit multiple crimes at the drop of a hat. If you had ano friends they will now be looking at you in a different light. Thanks for the warning. One more thing. It wasn’t arson. Check with the fire department.

THUNDER IN THE PINES RACING CIRCUIT Pollock Pines, California Showing streets that will be used, plus the added banked loop connecting Ridgeway to the Highway 50 Straigh. 1900 Kilometers, rain or shine

Orson Welles Disclaimer: This is a fantasy by the editor of the CEDAPP Newsblast. It is for your entertainment. It is like fantasy football, but for car racing people. Imagine prototype sports cars. Imagine NASCAR stockers. Imagine motorcycles. Use your imagination well, ‘cause that’s as far as this will ever go. Then tell your friends in the Bay area how cool a race up here could be.
