2012-13 DHHS/SOCSA Choir Newsletter No. 1 September 2012 Dear Students, Parents, and Friends: This is our first choir newsletter for the 2012-13 year; copies of this newsletter may be obtained on School Loop, and hard copies are available in the choir room. We are looking forward to another exciting and educational year of activities for our vocal department. Please see the calendar below for the most important dates for this year. Our students are hard at work preparing their voices for our first concert of the year, on Wednesday, October 17th , 7:00 in the Porthole Theater. And, we are also looking forward to the first “Sundays at Sunset” concert at the Dana point Yacht Club on September 16th. Our annual Choir Retreat on September 28th-30th will be an excellent opportunity for our many new choir students to meet and learn with our returning students, and for us all to get prepared for the Fall Concert. We will have a Choir Parents’ Meeting on Monday, September 24th at 8:00 (or immediately after the SOCSA Parents’ Meeting). At this meeting you will find out details about the Choir Retreat, meet the Choir Boosters’ Board, hear about our upcoming events and fundraisers, meet choir parents, ask questions, volunteer to help this year, and make suggestions for our program. We certainly hope that you can attend! Thanks – Ray Woods FRIENDS OF VOCAL MUSIC All choir students are currently soliciting Friends of Vocal Music donations for our program. Parents, friends, neighbors, relatives and local businesses are encouraged to become “Friends of Vocal Music”; depending on the level of donation, contributors receive benefits such as free tickets and advertising. Please see the attached Friends of Vocal Music form for more information; copies are also available in the choir room.

ENTERTAINMENT BOOKS We are also selling entertainment books this month. Those who purchase the books can realize huge savings

“SUNDAYS AT SUNSET” Vocal Jazz Concert at the Dana Point Yacht Club September 16th This year we are very excited to have the opportunity to present monthly concerts at the beautiful Dana Point Yacht Club on Sunday evenings. These one-hour concerts will feature performers from each of the SOCSA programs, and all ticket sales will go directly to our SOCSA Foundation. The first concert will be an evening of vocal jazz, presented by the participants in this summer’s Vocal Jazz Workshop. The concert will be presented in a real cabaret-like setting, with an optional pasta buffet at 5:00 followed by the show at 6:00. For tickets and more information look on the socsarts.org web site for the “Buy Tickets Now” button, or go to the Box Office on the top banner. WE HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!! CHOIR POINTS We will once again this year offer choir points to students who participate in our fundraisers, sell tickets to our concerts, and obtain Friends of Vocal Music donations. Each choir point is equal to one dollar of choir-related expenses. For example, each Entertainment Book sold results in 14 choir points for the students who sells it. These points may be used for outfit rental, retreat cost, or any other choir expenses during the school year.
