Topic Work

We will be looking at words to help us to describe different landscapes and experiences. To help us do this, we are studying the books about Katie Marag and the Isle Struay. If you would like to support your child in this area, storybooks about Katie Morag will be available from Public Libraries. They could also research the Katie Morag stories on the internet.

Numeracy This half-term we will be practising our number bonds to five, ten and twenty. (e.g. be able to write all the number sums whose answers total 5, then 10, then 20) Then beyond 20. To learn the 2x and 10x tables. (progressing to 4x and 5x). We will also be learning about shape in the environment.

P.E. Tuesday and Wednesday.

Our topic will include looking at maps to identify islands around the United Kingdom. Comparing life in Leeds with that on a small island off the coast of Scotland. Plus many other ideas!

LITERACY In Literacy we will be studying stories with a familiar setting. Any stories you can introduce your child to relating to home life, the park and the local environment generally would be very helpful. We are all having as a target this half-term: “I need to improve my handwriting”. Lots of practise sheets will be sent home which need to be returned to school completed. Thanks for your support in this.

Design Technology We are looking at vehicles and their mechanisms and how simple mechanisms relating to moving vehicles work, after clarifying their ideas through discussions, they will make a wheeled vehicle which moves and which generally matches their design intention.

Art We are looking at pictures and how we interpret them. We will ask the children to collect pictures from magazines, the internet or books, bring them into school to use as a discussion to inspire our artistic talents!
