FEBRUARY

A girl can’t have enough bags! with Pat Dick

PD01 Sunday 15th February 10-4 Single all-day session £60 In this full day workshop, experienced bag-maker Pat Dick will show you how to make a fabulous STRUCTURED TOTE BAG in cotton fabric of your choice. The bag will be fully lined with an internal pocket, a magnetic closure and handles long enough to place over your shoulder. Finish your bag with a co-ordinating large button to feature your beautiful bag and for added security. You will learn precision cutting, template making and lots of hints and tips to make your day a fun experience.

Beginners Dressmaking with Abi Nicoll

AN02 Monday evenings. 7-9 Starts 16th February. 8 sessions for £80 This class will provide the student with a good knowledge and understanding of garment construction from beginning to end, learning different techniques and mastering the sewing machine and to enjoy the process with encouragement to carry on this very useful skill.

Kiltmaking with Jean McKirdy

JM01 Wednesday afternoons 2-4 Starts 18th February 8 sessions for £80 Traditional kiltmaking with one of Scotland’s leading kiltmakers/teachers. Learn the traditional techniques from first steps to the finished item. Revamp that hat/Focus on fascinators with Abi Nicoll AN03 Friday mornings. 10-12 Starts 20th February 4 sessions for £60 Workshops in reviving and revamping a previously worn hat, or making a fascinator. This would involve using straw, wire, feathers, ribbons and spray dyes. A hat would be stripped down, reshaped, coloured and decorated fresh and beautiful for a new outing. (Combined fee for AN03 and AN04 £120)

Millinery: Hat making with Abi Nicoll AN04 Friday afternoons. 1-5 Starts 20th February 5 sessions for £75 Workshop in hat making, which would involve using, coloured straw, blocking, wiring, edging and binding, straw manipulation and feather decoration. (Combined fee for AN03 and AN04 £120) Embroidery with Pam Atchison PA 03 Saturday afternoons. 1-4 Starts 14th February 5 sessions for £75

Learn how to design and create beautiful images using appliqué and free motion embroidery and embellishment techniques. Suitable for beginners and those keen to develop existing skills.

MARCH Poppy Fields: Quilting with Pat Stone PS 01 Sunday 8th March 10-4. All-day session £60 This enchanting landscape quilt is formed around the theme of fields of poppies. The quilt is put together using machine piecing, we can then free motion or traditionally quilt. Applique and reverse bobbin stitching can also be included. Students will need to have some knowledge as this is a sewing machine class, led by celebrated quilter Pat Stone.

Patchwork for Beginners with Pam Atchison PA 04 Tuesday afternoons. 2-4 Starts 10th March. 8 sessions for £80 Learn the basics of patchworking techniques for quilt making and wall-hangings. See what can be done with squares, triangles and strips. Learn the basics of colour theory to maximise the impact of your projects. Dressmaking: Developing Skills with Abi Nicoll AN05 Thursday afternoons. 3.30-5.30 Starts 12th March. Sessions for £80 This class is aimed at students with some dressmaking knowledge, who would like to continue learning and developing their skills by taking on the challenges of new techniques not tried before. Students should come with a chosen pattern that will give them new challenges combined with their previous dressmaking knowledge and a good understanding of the use of the sewing machine.

Dressmaking for Beginners with Pam Atchison

PA05 Saturday mornings 10-12. Starts 14th March. 8 sessions for £80 Learn to use a sewing machine, choosing fabrics, patterns and understand the construction of a garment. Mastering the skill of inserting a zip, making darts through to fit and finish.

Friendship Star: Sampler Quillow with Pat Stone PS02 Sunday 22nd March 10-4 All-day session £60 This useful and attractive combination quilt/pillow is a colourful project of dark and light squares and triangles. Its straightforward format is one highly suitable for beginners in patchwork quilting techniques.

APRIL Rail Fence Quilt with Pat Stone PS03 Sunday 12th April 10-4 All-day session £60 This is a highly approachable day course for those wanting to tackle a simple quilt using ‘rail fence’ strips to create an imaginative and attractive patchwork project. All in a day! Japanese Folding Bag with Pat Dick PD02 Sunday 19th April 10-4 Single all-day session £60 In this full day workshop, experienced bag-maker Pat Dick will showcase a Japanese bag in beautiful Japanese/cotton patchwork fabrics of your choice. MAY Pleated Shoulder Bag with Pat Dick PD03 Sunday 3rd May. 10-4. Single all-day session £60 This is a day course for those who have already participated in Pat’s classes in previous months or for those who already have basic bag-making experience. This course will showcase a pleated front shoulder bag with adjustable straps. Made from cotton or needlecord fabric of your choice. As in previous classes, you will learn precision cutting with lots of hints and tips to make your day one to remember.

Zippy Tote Bag with Pat Dick PD04 Sunday 17th May. 10-4. Single all-day session £60 This is a full day course for those who already have sewing experience. This course will showcase a medium sized tote bag with three different patchwork cotton fabrics, pieced together with a quirky angled zip to the front of the bag to create a useful pocket. Fully lined and interlined with one of the three coordinating fabrics chosen and an internal pocket with a magnetic closure. You will learn precision cutting, how to insert a zip and piece together fabrics of your choice with lots of hints and tips to make your day one to remember.
