About Atkins Established in 1938, Atkins has become one of the largest international design and engineering consulting firms. Our experience in the most vibrant markets in the world allows us to deliver the best, most up-to-date technical solutions to our clients’ projects by sharing worldwide expertise and knowledge. At the same time, Atkins understands the vital importance of being local. We have a history of establishing deep roots in the communities in which we live and work. In the United States—where we have served our clients for more than half a century— our experience spans the entire nation. Our understanding of local requirements, regulations, practices, and culture allows us to be true partners with our clients.

Atkins’ core services in North America encompass engineering, planning, construction management, program management, environmental science, geomatics, architecture, landscape architecture, emergency management, asset management, and information technologies. Our ongoing success is based on the recognition that client satisfaction is paramount. We are widely noted for the high caliber of our technical professionals and our comprehensive capabilities in key markets.

Atkins has a long history of providing a wide range of master planning services to private and public sector clients throughout the United States and abroad. The Atkins approach to planning challenges is synergistic and interdisciplinary in an effort to produce a master plan in harmony with the environment, the marketplace, and the client’s specific needs and resources. We promote shareholder involvement in the master planning process. We recommend that adjacent landowners and local public officials become involved in the master planning process early in order to share project related goals and issues, identify common opportunities, provide an understanding of the site design objectives, and minimize future approval obstacles.

Architectural design In North America, Atkins has been providing award-winning architectural design services for more than 30 years. We have earned a reputation for excellence by designing some of the finest buildings within target markets—buildings that incorporate innovative design, energy conservation, construction administration and project delivery. Whether for new construction or renovation/expansion, we approach every assignment by first listening and understanding the needs of our client. We believe that excellence in design is always achievable

within the framework of any budget, schedule, or criteria. And with a nearly 90-percent repeat client base, we have the demonstrated ability to build relationships that last.

Management solutions High-definition surveying is a non-intrusive means of rapidly collecting highly detailed and accurate as-built (as is) data. This process creates the 3D basis for building information modeling (BIM). Atkins has been leading the BIM movement since its inception and has proactively learned about and implemented BIM on our projects since 2005. In the past year alone, Atkins has used BIM to design 20 projects with an estimated construction value exceeding $240 million. BIM enables building information to be created and maintained in an intelligent, coordinated manner. Once created, the BIM model can be used for construction drawings, visualizations, analysis, coordination and collaboration, construction simulation, cost estimating, and many other downstream processes including facilities and asset management.

Sustainable design Dedicated to helping lead the charge for a low-carbon economy, Atkins is committed to the implementation of sustainable design principles and aims to be responsible stewards of the earth’s resources in the design of construction projects. Our sustainable building design group is a national practice providing dedicated expertise to several key services: green building consulting, LEED project management, energy modeling simulations, energy auditing, and building commissioning. The group includes professionals carefully selected for their experience, skills, and passion for sustainable development and energy efficient build practices geared toward preserving and protecting our environment.
