We most often associate music technology with theory, notation or sequencing software programs. However, there is technology that we might not always consider to be relevant to our studios: Internet audio and video. The ability to consume and deliver high quality audio and video over the Internet has developed so quickly in such a short time that music teachers need to recognize this new medium for delivering content and start incorporating it into their studios. I discussed how students could record themselves and play it back exactly how they performed it. The Yamaha Corporation of America are lending a Yamaha Disklavier Mark IV Pro Grand Piano (valued at over $60,000) for an indefinite period of time to the school of music at Stephen F. Austin State University at no cost. The purpose of the loan is to research and beta test their new Remote Lesson technology that enables multiple pianos to be connected over the internet in order to teach lessons in real time over long distances. SFA is one of only a few select institutions, including the Juilliard School, UCLA, The Royal Conservatory of Music in Canada, and Hamline University to participate in this program. The Yamaha Corporation of America have lent a Yamaha Disklavier Mark IV Pro Grand Piano (valued at over $60,000) for an indefinite period of time to the school of music at Stephen F. Austin State University free of charge. The purpose of the loan is to research and beta test their new Remote Lesson technology that enables multiple pianos to be connected over the internet in order to teach lessons in real time over long distances. Through these beta tests, we are helping develop a technology that may allow piano instructors to teach students regardless of geographic boundaries. Over the course of this lending period, SFA piano students have benefitted from being able to study with instructors from around the country, including the Juilliard School. I have also been successful in giving master classes and lessons over long distances using this remote lesson technology to students in California, Colorado, Minnesota, Massachusetts, and Canada.

Activity Description I presented a program called "The Magical Piano" to a children's audience at the Nacogdoches Public Library using the newly acquired Yamaha Disklavier Mark IV Pro Grand Piano. Using the Yamaha Disklavier Mark IV Pro Grand Piano, I presented a program that included solo performances and duets using the technology on the Yamaha Disklavier Mark IV Pro Grand Piano. I demonstrated the piano's ability to record and playback performances as well as transform into other instrument sounds. Nacogdoches Area Music Teachers Association, Nacogdoches, Texas.
