Deen has three elements: (1) Al-Islam: Islam: the five pillars of Islam which are the apparent actions; (2) Al-Iman: regarding the actions of the heart heart; and (3) Al-Ihsan: the perfection in worshipping Allah

.

Under Al-Iman we have alreadyy discussed four arkaan: (1) Iman Billah (3) Books

and (4) Messengers

. Today Insha’Allah we will start the fifth rukn (

which is the belief on the Last Day, the Day of Judgement ( Always Allah

(2) Angels )

).

mentions belief on the Last Day after mentioning ntioning the Iman Billah, such is the importance of believing on

the Last Day. It is one of the unseen matters over which a believer has to have ffirm belief in a manner described in Quran and Sunnah. What is the Last Day ( mankind (

). It is the Day of Judgement (

). On that Day Allah

will resurrect all the

).

Allah

will resurrect the mankind for or two reasons:

1.

Accountability (

2.

Recompense (

) ) – reward or the punishment depending on the deeds.

The Day is called Yaum-ul-Qiyamah because Qiyamah means to stand and on that Day everyone will be standing in front of Allah

, waiting for the accountability and

recompense. There are so many names of this Day and every name describes one of the things which will happen on that Day. It is called Yaum-ul-Aakhir Aakhir because there will be no day after th this Day (

) and it will be the last day.

That one particular day will be not like our usual day which we have now but it will be thousands of years long. After the Day of Judgement the Day will be

- will be permanent; will

tly abode in the place assigned to us after the recompense; permanently whether in Paradise or the hell fire; that’s why the Day is also called Yaum-ul-Mustaqir – the Day of the Permanent Abode. There are others names which are mentioned in the Quran and the Sunnah. How do we need to believe in the Last Day? The belief in the Day of Judgement includes belief on three things (

) in order for us to be considered as

believers who believe in the Day of Judgement: Thalath Usool December 15 , 2012

(1)

First Belief: To believe in the resurrection (

the resurrection (

). We need to know what is exactly meant by believing in

). It means believing in the fact that Allah

will bring life to the dead bodies (

)–

all the souls will be returned to the dead bodies scattered all over the earth. Th This will happen when the trumpet will be blown for the second time (

) by Israfeel AS and all dead bodies will be brought back

to life. Then everybody will stand in front of Rabb Rabb-ul-Alimeen (

).

How will everybody be resurrected, in which condition? Thre Three descriptions of the condition: • Without shoes – bare-footed ( • Without clothes – naked ( • Un-circumcised (

) ); and

)

This information is based on Hadith. When Prophet Muhammad

narrated this

Hadith Ayesha RA asked (rephrased) that if everybody will be rai raised like that will people not look at each other. Prophet

replied that the terror of that day will be

such that one would not care about the state of another another.

[Sahih Al-Bukhari Bukhari Hadith (Hadith 4.656) Allah's Apostle said, "You will be resurrected (and assembled) assem barefooted, naked and uncircumcised." The Prophet then recited the Divine Verse: "As We began the first creation, We shall repeat it: A promise We have undertaken. Truly we shall do it." (21.104) (21.104)]. 1

This will be similar to the first creation of human kind . Belief on the resurrection day should be without any doubts and external influences ( the evidences from the Quran (

) and the Sunnah (

) and we get

), which affirm

the fact about the resurrection. For people who do not believe in the Quran and Sunnah nnah there is another proof: the intellect (

), the brain should realize the

fact that there has to be a wisdom behind the creation of everything; eating, drinking, living and then dying is not the logical reasoning behind the creation. 1

Second Belief: to believe in the accounts and the recompense: (

after the resurrection Allah

). We need to believe that

will call everyone for accountability and recompense of his deeds (

).

There will be 70,000 people who will be excluded from this accountability and recompense; they will go directly to the Paradise without any accounts or punishment. They are the mutawakkileen who put their complete reliance on Allah they will be exempt from all accounts and punishment, may Allah

,

make us among those Ameen. Rest of the people will

be called for accounts. There will be different ways of accountability for different people. Some people will face easy 2

accounts ( (

), their reckoning will be easy

.

Then there will be people whose accounts will be difficult 3

) and they will be questioned on each and every deed which they used to do. Munafiqeen will face this type of

accounts. So there will be three different types of accounts: no accounts, easy accounts and difficult accounts. Then after the accounts people will get the recompense (

), good (

) or bad (

), according to their deeds.

ence of the fact that everybody will Evidence be accounted and recompensed is in Surah Ghashiya Ayah 25 & 26 and Surah Anbiya Ayah 47.

Evidence from Hadith that everything will have an account and recompense and how just the accounts and recompense will be on the Day of Judgement:

Ibn Abbas, radiyallahu ‘anhu,, reported that the Messenger of Allah,

, related from his Lord (glorified and exalted

be He): “Verily Allah

has recorded the good deeds and the evil deeds.” Then he clarified that: “Whosoever intends to do a

good deed but does not do it, Allah Allah

records it with Himself as a complete good deed; but if he intends it and does it,

records it with Himself as ten good deeds, up to seven hundred times, or more than that. But if he intends to do

an evil deed and does not do it, Allah

records it with Himself as a complete good deed; but if he intends it and does it,

Allah records it down as one single evil deed.” [Al-Bukhari & Muslim]

Page 6

There will be scale and on that scale every good deed (

) as well as the bad deed (

) will be weighed, if the

weight of the good deeds is more than the bad deeds then the person will go to Paradise and vice versa. A disbeliever, polytheist or a hypocrite will not have any weights for their good deeds because their good deeds were not done for the sake of Allah

so all their good deeds will go in vain.

So the equation will be: Good deeds Bad deeds Good deeds

bad deeds good deeds bad deeds

Paradise Hell A’araf (a mountain in between Paradise and Hell – people will be in the middle and afterwards they will be taken to paradise).

What are the good deeds which have the max maximum weights on the scales?

good manners – good deali dealings with people with maximum of good behavior for the sake of Allah

Thalath Usool December 15 , 2012

Page 7

What are the bad deeds which have the maximum ximum weight nullifiers on the scale?

hypocrisy

disbelief

polytheism

Third Belief: to believe in the paradise adise an and hellfire (

have to have the belief in the Last Day. IIt will be the abode for ever (

). This is the third th belief which we need to ) acco ccording to the weight in the

balance of the good and the bad deeds. Paradise – the place of all delights – some delights known which we ta taste now and some unknown to everyone which neverr cros crossed the minds of anyone. Allah

has made this place eespecially for the

muttaqin. Never compromise on this for the he sake of worldly pleasure, Allah

wants simple things from m uus and in return

has promised something, which no eyes has seen seen, no ears heard and no mind can think the delight ght and beauty of such a place SubhanAllah. If we prefer er duniya d then it is a loss trade because we exchange something better with th some something which is worse. the hellfire which hich is tthe abode of the disbelievers. Thalath Usool December 15 , 2012

Page 8

So the summary of the belief in the Last Day is the three beliefs we need to have to believe in the Last Day as the Day of Judgement:

We ask Allah

for His forgiveness and Mercy. Anything that is good from these notes is from Allah

are my own. I ask Allah

. Any mistakes & misrepresentations

for His acceptance of all our good deeds and forgiveness of our sins Ameen.
