The Cardio-Respiratory Response Following a 8-Week Aerobic Interval Training Program in Trained Adolescents Pierre-Marie Leprêtre1*, Philippe Lopes1,2, Jean-Pierre Koralsztein3 and Véronique Billat1

Abstract High value of maximal oxygen update (VO2max) was generally associated with large stroke volume (SV) in trained subjects but severe exercise may induce VO2max attainment with a decline of SV value. Objective: To examine the effects of interval training at the power associated with SVmax (IT@pSVmax) on the patterns of SV and 2.

Methods: 8 trained adolescents (age: 14.8 ± 1.0 years, height: 163.5 ± 6.2 cm, weight: 50.4 ± 8.9 kg, VO2max: 54.6 ± 7.3 mL.min-1. kg-1) performed a progressive cycle exercise to determine the power that elicited SVmax (pSVmax) and the power associated at VO2max (p VO2max), before and after 8 IT@pSVmax weeks.

Results: This training session induced an increase in SVmax (95 ± 32 vs. 121 ± 33 mL.beat-1, P
