The department of Development Studies is going to start a new series of academic activity in which students, faculty and researchers will be encouraged to write academic essays related to the discourse of Development. The attempt here is to create a space for generating a range of views and opinions on social issues including though not limited to poverty, inequality, gender, conflict and human security.

Type of Essay The essay type can be:  Expository (writer explains or exposits a short theme, idea or issue)  Argumentative (writer argues that his/her take on the issue under consideration is more truthful than those of others)  Analytical (writer analyses, examines and interprets an event, or a book, play or any piece of literature)  Persuasive (writer persuades the reader to adopt his/her position on the issue under consideration)

DS View is open for? DS view is open to the students, faculty and researchers of all departments who are encouraged to submit their essays to [email protected]. The submitted essays will be screened by the departmental faculty. After screening, students will be asked to bring about minor/major (depending upon quality of submitted essays) changes in the essays. After editing and proofreading, essays will be uploaded on the PIDE’s website with acknowledgement of the author(s) fully assured. I welcome students, faculty and researchers to actively take part in this initiative and encourage knowledge building through mutual sharing.

Best Wishes, Dr. Zulfiqar Ali Head, Department of Development Studies PIDE, Islamabad
