Kinzey served as Senior Director of Audience Development for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra from September 2004 to December 2009 following an initial consulting engagement, Director of Marketing for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra from 1981-1998, and Director of Marketing and Public Relations for The Louisville Orchestra from 1977-1981. The Louisville Orchestra was sold-out the last two seasons of Kinzey’s tenure, the Dallas Symphony achieved 16 consecutive years of revenue growth while increasing season subscriptions from 5,100 to over 31,000 with nine consecutive seasons at capacity, and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra achieved five consecutive years of increases in the number of subscribers for both the classical and pops series. Kinzey founded Audience Strategies for the Arts, Inc. in January 1998. He has over 30 years experience in the arts both as a performer and behind-the-scenes at senior management level positions in marketing, sales and promotions. Beginning with the establishment of Audience Strategies, Kinzey has been devoted to providing a variety of marketing and strategic planning services for the performing arts in the United States, Canada and Europe. In September 2004, Kinzey was named Senior Director of Audience Development for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra following seven months of consulting with the PSO. In 2004 - 2005, new classical subscriptions at the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra increased 58% compared to the previous season and new pops subscriptions increased 118%. For 2006 - 2007, classical subscription seat sales increased an additional 14% with overall ticket sales not achieved in two decades. The Pittsburgh Symphony in 2008 – 2009 was one of the, if not the only top ten American Orchestra to sustain five consecutive years of subscription growth for both the classical season and the pops season. Kinzey remains President of Audience Strategies for the Arts, Inc., the Dallas based consulting firm. He continues as Senior Marketing Advisor to the Plano Symphony Orchestra (Texas) with subscriptions up 114% resulting in five consecutive seasons sold to better than 95% capacity. As a continuing consultant in strategic planning and audience development for the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, Canada, 2008 – 2009 set a

twenty-year subscription sales record. Consulting work continues with numerous other organizations with 86% of the client roster setting subscription records for the 2010 – 2011 season. Kinzey is a regular presenter at national arts conferences in the US and Europe including the League of American Orchestras, Opera America, the National Arts Marketing Conference, Chorus America, universities and state arts consortiums. He was invited in April 2008 to present six workshops on audience development in the UK in six cities following a long relationship with the Arts Council of England. Other invitations include presentations at the Non-Profit Center in Munich, Germany, an international conference on arts marketing in Tokyo and the keynote address for the National Arts Marketing Conference in the fall of 2008. Kinzey is scheduled to present a workshop on audience development in Sydney, Australia in April 2011 while consulting with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Douglas Kinzey is a graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Oberlin College in piano, with secondary studies in flute and conducting, and he graduated from Indiana University with a Masters in Arts Administration and a minor in piano performance.
