Conclusion of National Conference on Pure & Applied Mathematics "Mathematics for Millennium-Perspective and Challenges"--conclusion Guwahati, Assam, May 13, 2013 /India PRwire/ -- Mathematics, in the minds of every budding student creates a fear psychosis, festered by perceptions of misconceptions and misunderstandings. Patience and time bestowed on understanding mathematics has proved in history that once understood, it becomes life changing. With this backdrop, Department of Mathematics, RGI had organized a National Conference on Pure and Applied Mathematics, "Mathematics for Millennium-Perspective and Challenges" from 9th to 10th May 2013, co-sponsored by Department of Science & Technology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India. Stalwarts on mathematics from East, West, North, South and Northeastern India congregated for two days and their valuable insights will be forwarded to Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, AICTE and National Board of Higher Mathematics for further implementation. The thrust areas of the conference were Numerical Methods and Computation, Relativity, Algebra, Analysis and their Applications, Fuzzy sets and Applications, Discrete Mathematics, Probability Statistics and Applications, Fluid Mechanics and Mathematical Modeling, Optimization and Control. Renowned mathematicians from various parts of the country delivered their valuable speeches on recent trends of mathematics including the keynote speech "Mathematics for millennium: Perspective and Challenges" by Professor V. Sree Hari Rao Fellow of National Academy of Sciences, India; Adjunct Professor, Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology and Chandrayan-1 by Professor B.C. Kalita, Gauhati University. In this conference around 67 research papers were presented by scholars from various institutions of India. All the research papers were of outstanding calibre. Special Invited speech were organised in each session where emminent Mathematicians like Prof. Naseem Ahmed of Jamia Milia Islamia spoke on Fluid Mechanics, Prof. Mandira Sarma of JNU, Delhi, spoke on application of Extreme Value Theorum, Prof P V S N Murthy of IIT, Kharagpur, spoke on the topic of Magnetic Drug Targeting in a permeable Micro vessel- DARKY/Briankmann model. Other speakers were Prof. Surajit Borkotoky of Dibrugarh University, who spoke on Applications of Fuzzy Sets Theory in the Cooperative Game Theory, Prof S.Natesan, IIT-G, spoke on Numerical Solutions of Elliptic PDE's with oscillating coefficients. Prof G.S. Khadekar of Nagpur University has spoken on Anisotropic relativistic charged fluid spheres with linear equations of state. Prof. N.D.Baruah of Tezpur University has given a wide indepth idea on Ramanujan's Modular Equations and Theta Function identities with applications to t-cores. Prof Helen Saikia of Gauhati University spoke on finiteness conditions of extending and dual extending modules. Also Prof. Gunin Sarma , Retd Professor of Assam University spoke on extensións of VONKARMAN's flow due to a rotating disc. Apart from this the comments made by the distinguished Chairpersons were very encouraging for the researchers. This conference will help in furthering research pursuits in every field of Mathematics. It focussed on how ably each and every segment of any topic can be chosen for research as well as the scope and applications of it. The deliberations shared in NCPAM, 2013 will equip the researchers the right insight into the chosen field of research in Mathematics. Feedbacks of NCPAM given by participants were very encouraging and positive. They all emphasized the applicability of mathematics to solve social issues like modeling of blood flow, cancer, forest echo system etc. and they discussed how mathematics can be a milestone for development of our country.
