National Amity Award Conferred On Noted Author And Journalist Shri Khushwant Singh Speaker of Lok Sabha, Shri Som Nath Chatterjee to give away the award in a function to be held in Parliament House tomorrow New Delhi, Delhi, September 25, 2008 /India PRwire/ -- Foundation for Amity and National Solidarity (FANS), a social organization, founded in December, 1984, has nominated renowned Journalist and Author Shri Khushwant Singh for this year’s National Amity Award. The Award will be presented to Shri Khushwant Singh by Shri Som Nath Chatterjee, Hon’ble Speaker of Lok Sabha, in a Function to be held at 6.00 P.M. on Friday the 26, a social organization, founded in December, 1984, has nominated renowned Journalist and Author Shri Khushwant Singh for this year’s National Amity Award. The Award will be presented to Shri Khushwant Singh by Shri Som Nath Chatterjee, Hon’ble Speaker of Lok Sabha, in a Function to be held at 6.00 P.M. on Friday the 26th September, 2008, at the Parliament House Annexe, New Delhi. Giving details in a press note issued in city today Shri Virender Mohan Trehan the prime force behind this organization a philanthropist and an Entrepreneur informed that Shri Khushwant Singh will be presented a Citation and a token sum of rupees One Lakh. ‘National Amity Award’ which was instituted on the occasion of completing a decade in the service of the Nation is presented to an Indian National, who has contributed substantially to the cause of National Solidarity and Communal Harmony, said Mr. Trehan. The Awardee is chosen by the Natioal Amity Award Board, comprising of : Shri Vasant Sathe, Former Minister of I&B, Govt of India; Shri M M Jacob, Former Governor of Meghalaya; Shri G C Saxena, Former Governor of J & K; Shri Sushil Kumar Shinde, Hon’ble Minister of Power, Govt of India; Shri Soli Sorabjee, Former Attorney General of India; Maj Gen. (Retd) S P Nijhawan, Convener, FANS. National Amity Award has been instituted by Foundation for Amity and National Solidarity for the last several years. The previous recipients include :Maulana Wahiduddin Khan, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Late Nani A Palkhivala, Late Jathedar Jiwan Singh Umrangal, Late Ms. Nirmala Deshpande. Foundation for Amity and National Solidarity was founded in December 1984 in the aftermath of the assassination of the then Prime Minister of India Smt. Indira Gandhi by 4 ordinary concerned Indians namely a) Late Shri Avtar Singh Dhingra, b) Late Shri P. L. Joseph, c) Nawabazada Aimaduddin Ahmed Khan (Durrumian) and d) Shri Virendar Mohan Trehan. A National Amity Award Board constituted to select a recipient who has exceptionally contributed to the propagation of National Integration, Communal Harmony and Brotherhood comprised of former Cabinet Minister Shri Vasant Sathe, former Governors Sarv Shri M. M. Jacob and Shri G. C. Saxena, Cabinet Minister Shri Sushil Kumar Shinde, Former Attorney General of India Shri Soli Sorabjee, Maj. Gen. (Retd.) S. P. Nijhawan, Late Justice H. R. Khanna, Late Prof. A. M. Khusro and Late Smt. Roda Mistry. FANS was established with the primary aim of "PROPAGATING THE MESSAGE OF NATIONAL INTEGRATION",Communal Harmony and Brotherhood. Towards that aim, FANS has organized more than 400 Functions all over the country and abroad. It is working at the gross root levels and focusing on the youth of the country. It has held numerous interactions with cross sections of the society. It has held numerous inter actions with various cross sections of the Society. FANS have done a yeomen service in spreading the message of Amity and National Solidarity. It believes in keeping its aims and objectives simple and focused. It does not want to dissipate its energy and resources having numerous aims. We firmly believe that the only way to defeat the divisive forces is to spread the message continuously and involve the youth of the country in spreading the message.
