She is the eldest child among five siblings Meena, Asha, Usha & Hridayanath. Lataji started her singing career with Marathi movies, and in the year 1945 moved to Mumbai and started learning classical singing from various mentors. It was the year 1949 when she had her first biggest hit with the song "Ayega Aanewaala" from the movie Mahal. She went on to work with various Music directors of that time and gave successful hits with each passing year. Having sung for four generations of heroines she is considered as the most respectful and best known playback singer across the globe.
