An “on-the-spot-survey” during the Niveshak Darbaar, an investor camp organized by NaradVani.Com’s daily e-Magazine Share Manthan, revealed that 88% respondents are bullish for a one year period. Only 29.5% respondents, however, expressed the hope of upmove in the market in a short period of one week. The number improved as the period expanded and 56% investors forecasted that market will witness a rise in the one month period. Explaining the results of the survey, Share Manthan’s editor Rajeev Ranjan Jha said, “This survey reveals the confidence of investors in the long term prospects of the Indian market, although for the short term, the investors are indecisive as 50% of them forecasted of a flat market for the one week period.” The survey, however, signals that the investors are not very exuberant at this point of time. Although 88% of the investors have projected a rise in the one year period, their expectations are muted only. Just seven per cent investors expect the Sensex to reach at the level of about 30,000 in the one year period, while 28% believe that it can go beyond 25,000-mark. About two third (62.8%), however, feel that the benchmark index would reach somewhere between 20,000 and 25,000 in the one year period. The key speakers of the event – Arun Kejriwal of KRIS, Arvind Pruthi of Karvy Stock Broking, Kavi Kumar of Multiple X and P.K. Agarwal of Bonanza Portfolio addressed the concerns of the participant investors, and explained them how can they make money in this turbulent market while keeping their hard earned money safe. The consensus view of the experts was that this year might turn out to be a tough year for the investors. Arun Kejriwal cautioned the investors not to base their investment decisions based on the bull phase of last four years. He said that the stock market might move in to the fresh bull phase but only after a lull year and consolidation. Arvind Pruthi explained that the way people invest in gold or real estate with a long term perspective; they should also treat the stock investments in a similar fashion. Kavi Kumar cited the recent euphoria regarding the Reliance Power IPO to explain the investors why they need to understand the fundamentals of the business before applying in an IPO or investing in a stock. He also cautioned them that the investors need to fully understand the mechanics of the futures market before initiating a trade in this segment. P.K. Agarwal highlighted the fact that the Indian economy is expected to grow at a very healthy pace for the next 10-15 years and people should use this as an opportunity to accumulate equity assets.
