About Bangalore Bangalore or Bengaluru, popularly known as the Silicon Valley of India, is the capital city of the South Indian state of Karnataka. Situated on the Deccan Plateau, in the south-eastern part of the state, the city experiences a moderate climate.

History of Bangalore From the 50s, this beautiful city of gardens, also known as the Garden City, with its temperate climate, lovely bungalows, tree-lined broad avenues and laid back ambience was a pensioner's paradise. Page 1/14

Bengaluru derives its name from the Kannada words ‘benda kalluru’, which means the land of boiled beans. According to legend, Veera Ballara, the Hoysala king, once lost his way during a hunting expedition. Wandering around, he met an old lady who gave him boiled beans to eat. In order to show his gratitude, he named the place, Benda Kalluru. Some historians believe that the name was derived from the ‘benga’ or ‘ven kai’ tree. Bangalore, as we know it today, was formed by Kempe Gowda. Formerly, Bangalore was ruled by a number of rulers and dynasties, including the Vijayanagara Empire and Tipu Sultan. A number of temples and monuments, which were built in the earlier days, are still a part of the city’s landscape. Major towns and subdivisions were formed during various rules. The city was sold to the rulers in Mysore in the earlier days and was later in the hands of the British whose rule continued till Independence.

People & Culture of Bangalore Bangalore has always seen a very diverse population, especially since modern times. It is a multi-cultural city permeating class, religion and language. Even though it is a cosmopolitan city, Bangalore holds on to its traditional features. Major festivals like Dasara, Deepavali, Ugadi, Sankranthi and Ganesh Chaturthi are celebrated with great pomp and fervour. There are a lot of festivals & events hosted in Bangalore like Karaga, Kadalekaye Parishe, Bangalore Habba, Lalbagh Flower Show and more. Bangalore is also a centre of renowned colleges, academic institutions, important central government establishments, scientific and research institutes and organisations. Bangalore has a very strong art and culture scene. It is home to various theatre groups; theatre platforms like Rangashankara and Jagriti and numerous art galleries that showcase established and emerging artists. Although Bangalore is a city rooted in tradition, it has a modern side to it. The city’s nightlife best reflects that. Various restaurants, lounge bars and pubs have been mushrooming across the city. Also, as it is a major IT hub, the city also has a huge population of expats.

Things to do in Bangalore The city also comprises a number of attractions, among which are the two botanical gardens, Lal Bagh (Glass House) and Cubbon Park. Other attractions include Tipu Sultan’s Palace, Bangalore Palace, Nandi Hills, Bannerghatta National Park and Mayo Hall. Food & Shopping in Bangalore There are two distinct facets to shopping in Bangalore. Areas like M.G. Road, Brigade Road and Commercial Street are the lively places in the city and also paradise for shoppers. Apart from street shopping, Bangalore has a number of malls that house national and international clothes and accessories brands such as UB City, Mantri Mall and Garuda Mall among others. These brands range from high-end fashion houses to affordable labels. On the other hand, the Page 2/14

The city has three major railway stations – Bangalore City Junction, Bangalore Cantonment and Yeshwanthpur Junction. The city is also well connected by buses run by the KSRTC and other private operators to regions within the state as well as neighbouring states.

Travelling within Bangalore The best way to explore Bangalore is by public transport. For a more organised tour, tourists can sign up for Bangalore holiday packages. The city has many Volvo buses too that ferry passengers to different areas within the city. Tourists can go on a ‘Bangalore Darshan’ organised by the State Tourism Department where they will be shown all the major attractions of the city. Local tour operators too organise such tours. Another option to travel within the city is by auto rickshaw or by hiring a taxi. The city also has the new Metro which connects M.G. Road to Byappanahalli, which itself has become a tourist hotspot.

For more budget options, tourists can opt to stay in hotels near residential areas like Whitefield, Jayanagar or even near the Bangalore Railway Station. Featured review about Bangalore My Bangalore Business trip at Domlur Layout "It was a great trip for me I had to reach Domlur Layout near Indira Nagar from Kempegowda international Airport at sharp 10 am and reached their by 9:30. I took uber cab it took us to reach Domlur 1 hour 10 minutes. The traffic was very smooth but got confused in the evening. The city is lacking smart traffic management like in Delhi. No Fob's, underpasses and Flyovers. Metro work has to be done by adopting fast measures. The weather was amazing it had rain on 12 and 13 Oct. Very fresh air in the city first time I experienced. While is very much green large trees on the both sides of roads. The food was nice besides Idly, dosa, especially The Andhra Based dum Biryani at Pot Britain at Domlur. It was very tasty showing the great food culture at Banglore. Indira Nagar is the best place to live around. Each and everything at walking distance. Traffic police is very Hardworking and Disciplined. All infrastructure is very good people are very well behaved and supportive. The Evolution of city is going on at its own space. The Real Estate is developing as jobs are creating in the city. I completed my work on 14 Oct took uber taxi and reached at Banglore Airport by 6 pm took my flight at 9:30 pm reached Delhi by 12:20pm. It was really great trip." Vinay Singh, Delhi, Oct 16, 2016

Vinay Singh, Delhi, Oct 16, 2016 Duty Free Store at Bengaluru International Airport "Bengaluru International Airport fondly called as the Kempegowda International Airport has become the hub of International travel in South India and slowly catching up to be in the top 5 in India. It's wonderful to see that millions of foreigners also pass through this airport along with Indians and NRIs who travel abroad. Nuance Duty free store in Bengaluru International Airport showcases a touch of tradition along with best of duty free shopping for one of the busiest Page 4/14

airports in South India! The design you see is inspired by (Ear Ring) worn by most Indian Traditional women, especially South Indians. It has got elegance and grace written all over it. I like the fact also that Top 10 items are placed at the starting of the store itself. It gives passengers who are in a hurry a quick chance to pick up the most in-demand merchandise. The ceilings are nicely decorated with Rangolis (Kolams) which are mainly seen outside many traditional South Indian houses. This is a welcome change to many boring Duty free shops across the world which just focus on the product. One of the highlights of the Nuance Duty Free store in Bengaluru International Airport is the tasting bar by Chivas. It is an amazing way to taste before you buy. Chivas has some wonderful contests too by which passengers can win pure gold! Whisky Boutique at Nuance Duty free store is one of the best in the world and the prices are lesser than Dubai Duty free or Singapore Duty free stores. One very interesting aspect we got to know is that getting a trolley bag free with a couple of Single malts is more favored by passengers than getting a discount. Nice perspective into the psyche of the travellers! We interacted with Anirban Dutta Chowdhury, Country Head, Nuance India who told us that apart from Alcohol, the next big thing is Chocolates specially newer ones like Neuhaus apart from the usual suspects like Lindt, Snickers, Mars, etc. The 900 shopping experience also has a Sound & Vision store which is equipped with the latest gadgets technology can offer. Keeping in mind that gadgets can be obsolete in days, they always refresh their stock and keep their prices competitive. One of the highlights of the Electronics department is the Harman/Kardon speakers which mesmerize the passengers and they love to interact with them. It was also interesting to know that Nuance is a leading travel retailer with more than 60 locations in 18 countries across the globe. Nuance is a whirlwind subsidiary of international travel retailer Dufry AG (DUFN) of Basel, Switzerland. In addition to an extensive portfolio of duty- and tax-free stores, brand boutiques and concept stores, Nuance also provides in-flight services and operates a wholesale and distribution business, supporting the travel retail sector. One of the unique and best aspects of the Nuance store is that all their bags are made by underprivileged women from an NGO called "Ubuntu At Work". So while you indulge in shopping, you can get rid of guilt by assuring yourself that you are providing livelihood to many underprivileged families in India!" - Nivedith Gajapathy, Bangalore, Oct 6, 2016

Trip to Bengaluru and Coorg. "Bengaluru is a vibrant, throbbing, lively city. The people are warm and friendly. But Bengaluru city traffic snarls are a bit unsettling and tiresome. But may be, in the years to come, the Page 5/14

upcoming Metro services would provide some relief. Coorg of course is a true delight, even more so during the monsoon months of July and August. The whole of Coorg is a soothing, serenading, comforting, relaxing magic blanket of Green. The tall leafy green trees and the lush green coffee plantations are a cool, comforting and refreshing delight, for the eyes to behold, for the jaded city dwellers on a leisurely, relaxing holiday. The sweet sounds of the bird calls and the sounds of the lively insects are an exotic music to the ears used to the rumbling noises of clogged city traffic. A walk through the dense trees and the thick coffee and spice plantations is truly therapeutic and healing to the tired mind and bodies of the city dwellers and it would not be an exaggeration to say that a one hour walk through the dense green trees and lush plantations is truly soothing and serene to the sublime succor seeking soul. The thick, gushing, cascading, fierce Abbey falls with pure milk white water rushing down the slope, with a ferocious roar is sweet, healing to the ears and a cool and soothing visual to the tired eyes of the hectic and exhausted city dwellers. If anything can compete with this wonderful sight and sound, it is the breathtaking and the senses soothing visual of the panoramic vast green, sprawling virgin vista of the Rajaseat viewing deck, with a never ending spread of greenery far and wide, covering the entire range of the length and breadth of the human vision, and as far as the human eye can behold. The view is so natural that the entire expanse of the green undulating hills and the vast green landscape is untouched by any sign of civilization and human activity. The only difference here at Rajaseat compared to the Abbey falls is that the sound of the roaring thunder of the Abbey falls is replaced here by the deafening silence of the nothingness of the vast green sprawling, undulating panoramic vista. Madekeri and Virajpet in Coorg (Kodagu to the locals) was definitely worth the seven hour enjoyable drive ( including an one hour break for lunch on the way), from Bengaluru to Virajpet. Also, it is highly recommendable to visit the ancient Renganatha swamy temple at Srirangapattinam on the way, (About half way from Bengaluru to Coorg) on the banks of the sacred river Cauvery, with its beautiful temple tower. Do visit the beautiful banks and steps of river Cauvery too, adjoining the temple, just a couple of minutes drive. A must see, just a five minutes drive away is the historic summer palace of the former famous ruler Tipu Sultan, which has now been converted into a museum displaying historic artifacts of the bygone era of the local ruler Tipu Sultan." - Bhooma venkatesh , , Aug 8, 2016

You end up owning a slice of this city in terms of business, Friendship, or Romance with s cosmopolitan city of India after Mumbai, this sprawling Technopolis is awe inspiring with "A truly its vibrant surroundings, ambient business culture and diverse work force from all parts of india and hundreds of working professionals from US and Europe. Perhaps Banagalore has got more foreign working professionals than all other cities in india put together. For commuting inside the city, AAM admi transport, AUTORICKSHAW is ubiquitous and is the easiest mode of transport, you need to cover your nose while travelling to prevent inhaling all the dust &smoke particles though. Metro rail is present in some segments of the city and is hassle & pollution free mode of transport. One can try commuting metro. As regards the food, your taste buds will be lured to all sorts of cuisine including continental, most travelers prefer typical south Indian food with a tinge of Kannada flavor with it especially UDIPI cuisine. There are lot many places for the first time visitors. The sprawling Cubbon Park, Majestic Vidhana soudha and Indiragandhi musical fountain etc. The city also offers an Page 6/14

amalgamation of all the south indian movie fare among its many multiplexes. The interesting fact about Bangalore diaspora is its newspapers. After Kannada language dailies the second largest read vernacular newspaper is Malayalam with sizable number of copies followed by Taelugu and Tamil newspapers. Of course English dailies have also a prominent role in the city's Reading habit. You will feel rejuvenated and relaxed while beading good bye to this city." - Rambabu vankayalapati , , Aug 2, 2016 Read 873 Bangalore reviews on HolidayIQ.com
