Classical guitarist and pedagogue Dr. Isaac Bustos enjoys an extensive performing career that has taken him to Canada, Central America, Europe and all over the U.S. The Portland Oregonian hails him as “soulful and virtually flawless.” Dr. Bustos has made several radio and television appearances and is in demand as a clinician and master class teacher. He holds an impressive number of top prizes in more than 12 major international competitions, seven of which are first prizes. In 2008, Dr. Bustos released his debut CD Caprichos y Sonatas which Soundboard magazine described as “…One of the best…it has everything one could want.” In addition to his work as a soloist, he is also a founding member and regular performer with the awardwinning Texas Guitar Quartet. Dr. Wann-Dar Tan was already an established guitarist in his homeland of Malaysia before moving to Allen, Texas. Tan has appeared in solo and ensemble performances across the U.S., Malaysia, Singapore, Mexico and Germany. He won the Singapore Classical Guitar Society Annual Competition four years consecutively and has won the Singapore Yamaha Guitar Festival Competition. He was the first guitarist to win first prize in the string division of the Corpus Christi Young Artist Competition and was praised by renowned American cellist Nathaniel Rosen as “an exciting artist of great imagination.” Tan was also the Texas state winner for the American String Teacher Association Competition and a top 10 semifinalist in the prestigious Stotsenberg International Guitar Competition. Kithara Duo (Dr. Olga Amelkina-Vera and Dr. Fernand Vera) was formed in 2002, when they were graduate students at the University of North Texas. Since then, they have performed nationally as well as in Europe and South America. Kithara Duo’s critically acclaimed debut CD, Beings, was released in 2011. The album is a world premiere recording of Amelkina-Vera’s music for guitar duo. American Record Guide wrote, “Their work is outstanding. They have a beautiful sound, a wide range of tone, a subtle and broad control of dynamics, perfect ensemble, and a subtle and expressive phrasing.” Active as teachers and event organizers, Kithara Duo are the creators and directors of the annual Collin College Guitar Festival. They are faculty at Collin College. For more information, visit www.kitharaduo.com, www.facebook.com/kitharaduo and http://mgam.com/artist/kithara-duo.
