Saint Pedro Poveda College Civics and Culture 1 Session 10 Handout 1

Rights and Duties of Children A Right is something that each person can do while a Duty is something that is expected from each one. Each person has rights and duties that they freely enjoy. Respect for each other’s rights are important to keep a peaceful and happy community.

A child has the right to be healthy, each child has the duty to eat healthy food, sleep well and exercise. When we are healthy, we wont easily get sick because our body has enough vitamins and energy needed to fight against the viruses.

We also have the right to healthy food and for a check up. We should see our doctor and dentist regularly to make sure that we are healthy. If ever our parents forget, we have the duty to remind them about it.

Each child has the right to play and to go to school. But remember when we have a right we have a duty or something that we should do with it. We should know when it is the right time to play and study. There should be enough time to study then we could relax or play afterwards.

One of the Core Values of our School is Balance and harmony. It means that we should have to find time in studying, playing and resting. Balance and Harmony is very important to live a happy and peaceful life.

Something to think about: What will happen if we don’t do our duties?
