ell our 25th annual car show is in the books and can only be considered a success. In the middle of an unbelievable heat wave, the temps dropped a few degrees for our show but the humidity didn’t let up. We have had two our of shows during the past decade that were also very hot and our attendance was deeply affected but our turnout of 229 entrees this year was only slightly short of our average. The weekend actually started on Saturday night with our pre-show BBQ. That night about 50 of our members and family stuffed goody bags, pre-registered our cars and feasted on burgers, dogs and plenty of side dishes and deserts.

The summer heat had cars arriving early and Jeff Hohl, Bill Giese, Terry Koch and helpers were kept busy all morning.

As has been happening over the past several years, the Ford show is getting smaller and the Muscle Mustang classes are continuing to grow. The Ford show was down to 110 cars and the MM classes grew to 102. The FTA classes had 17 cars and that was up one from last year. We thank George and Tom Adams for their work on the Fairlane Club of America Mini-Meet. Cindy and her crew at registration kept things moving along briskly. The concession food was a sellout and Mark, Angie and crew continued on page 2

Sharon Apollo, Judy Biermann, Sandy Carey and Sharon Schodroski kept things moving at the registration table.

did their usual unbelievable job. The ballot counting was finished the earliest in many years, even with a slight hitch that we had. Cindy and Jeff are always improving the system and it will be even better next year. The FTA classes were moved to the hill and the 16 MM classes took up entire area across the road and this also worked out well. This year we went back to plaques and they really turned out great. For the Best of Show and Sponsors Choice, we had plaques made on the spot with the winners vehicles pictured on the plaques and they turned out fantastic. One of the best things about the show is the great turnout of members and family. At 7am on Sunday, the place was buzzing with so many of our long time members knowing what to do and so many of our newer members who were willing to learn. It’s always great to see many of our members who are not always able to be at most of our events but make sure that they are present for our show. There are so many people to thank and I would miss someone if I tried but special thanks go out to Ron Schodroski with his work with Dave Sinclair Ford as our major sponsor and to Jim Biermann, who lost sleep for a week worrying about the weather, trophies and all of the other headaches that come with being the car show chairman. Great job everyone!!

The plaques really turned out nice and was a great representation for our 25th annual car show.

Lots of smoke as the fires burned early at our concession stand. As always, it took plenty of help.

After the “water” incident last year, we couldn’t help poking fun at our announcer, Syl Biermann.

The show featured a display of Dave Sinclair cars and trucks and Scott Lewis’s fabulous Mustang.

The Fairlane Club mini-meet is always great to see and they even had their own generator and fan to keep the guys a little cooler.

Those guys running 20 and 22 inch wheels on their rides have nothing on Mark Lazzareschi as this ride has 36 inchers on it.

Vern Anderson and Ken Farrar (pictured) manned the 50-50 and membership table at the show. We did get four new members that day.

The Mustang Club of St. Louis had over 30 cars entered and easily won the Club Participation which they donated to our Toys for Tots campaign.

Our show chairman, Jim Biermann and our webmaster, Keirsten McDaniel draw the name of our grand attendance prize winner.

ark and Angie Lazzareschi not only do a great job of running the concessions at our show but are good citizens as well. Mark sent this: “Picture attached of the recycling we did at the show. The plastics container is a 96 gallon and the aluminum cans are in a 55 gallon. This was all collected in only 3 containers this year I usually put out 5. I don’t know the value of the aluminum yet but will get the number and put it back towards the show.” Thanks guys! Did you know? McDonnell Park is named in honor of James Smith McDonnell, as are the

McDonnell Planetarium of the Saint Louis Science Center in Forest Park, and James S. McDonnell Boulevard near Lambert-St. Louis International Airport. We have already had our first car show meeting that mostly involved the classes and any improvements that we may need next year. The company that made the Best of Show plaques says that they didn’t make enough money and will not be back. Signs of the times I guess. The snow cones were sold with our club making 50 percent on the sales. We managed to make $182 on this. We have a confirmed date from the St. Louis County Parks Department for our 2012 car show. It will be held on Sunday, July 29th.

O

ver the years, we’ve come to realize that no matter how we try, we can’t please everyone. Each year we take a few complaints, some legit, some nitpicking, most come from those who did not win. We are aware that we are not pro’s and have at times made some mistakes. but we feel that normally we put on a pretty good show. But every once in a while you get a complaint that you just can’t ignore. A lady called after the show and complained that she would not be coming back to our show because our judges cheat as “our guys in blue shirts” were all comparing notes and voting off of each others ballots. Well, there are three things very incorrect about this; !. WE DON’T CHEAT!!! 2. WE DON’T VOTE. 3. WE WEREN’T WEARING BLUE SHIRTS.

D

o to a last minute glitch, there has been a change in plans for our fall color tour. This year we will be heading to Pierre Marquette State Park on October 16th. Details will be available at our next membership meeting and in our October newsletter. Mark your calendars. Our annual Awards Banquet will be held on Saturday, January 21st. Since our membership meetings have grown, we have required a larger room. Unfortunately, they charge for this so we may be looking for another location for our membership meetings. We’ll keep you informed. Our 50-50 winner at our August meeting We were saddened to learn that the daughter of Don and Janice Branson was tragically killed in a car accident. Our condolences go out to the Branson family.

For a person who claimed that she has come to our show over the past four years, how could she not know what a “participant judged” show is? Besides that, when you make a claim of cheating, you should at least have a clue what you are talking about. Since we don’t vote, we cannot cheat on the judging. It’s also hard to believe that she did not notice that most of our people were wearing the show shirts which were white t-shirts with the show logo on the front. When putting on a show, you need to be wearing iron under ware as you have to take a certain amount of guff. What is upsetting about this is that we’re sure she went back to others at the show and made the cheating claim with us having no way to refute this stupid assumption. The bottom line is that we spent many, many hours in the planning of the show and our members work their butts off to make it all come together and it does hurt when you have to put up with this kind of nonsense. was Rich Sutorius who won $43. Rich generously donated his winnings to our Christmas toy drive. Thanks Rich!! Board member, Bill Giese had been missing in action do to some health problems. Bill hopes to be back in the swing of things soon.
