Set up your DESIGNER TOPAZ™ for embroidery. Hoop white quilt block fabric and batting in the Do all Quilter’s Hoop using the inner hoop marked heavy. Thread with embroidery thread on top and the bobbin.

Embroider 5 blocks from the white cotton fabric and 8 blocks from the golden fabric; use the quilt embroidery designs # 44, 45, 46 and 47 on the DESIGNER TOPAZ™ USB Embroidery Stick. With Rotary cutter, ruler and cutting mat trim each embroidered block to 8" x 8" (20cm x 20cm) square.

Make your own font in the 4D Quick Font Software: For instruction how to make a font in 4D Quick Font see the User’s Guide for the quick font program. We have used font – Monotype Corsiva, Style – Italic, stitch type - Satin, size 20 mm.

Select Woven medium, Seam, on your Sewing Pin Pin and stitch two squares together lengthwise. Place the fabric under presser foot with the metallic guide at the edge of the fabric for 5/8" (1.5cm) seam. Press all the seam allowances open.

Save the font on USB stick. Load the font to the machine. Program the text Vivas, crescas, vigeas, floreas (Latin for “May you live, grow strong and blossom”). Load the text to embroidery mode (for more info see your User’s Guide).

Continue sewing as above until you have 5 squares in a strip. illu 3

Hoop the strips for borders with tear away illu 1 stabilizer underneath in your DESIGNER™ Royal Hoop (360 x 200 mm). For DESIGNER TOPAZ™ 20 create a smaller font that fits into the DESIGNER™ Crown Hoop (260 x 200 mm). illu 2 Embroider the design.

Repeat for the other 4 strips. Pin the strips right sides together and sew them into one large pieced pillow top. Press all the seam allowance open. illu 4

Sew the Quilt Top

Set up your DESIGNER TOPAZ™ for regular sewing. Thread with the matching cotton thread on top and in the bobbin. Enter Woven Medium, Overcast on your Sewing Advisor. Place a layer of batting on all plain quilt blocks. Overcast all edges on the quilt blocks with a 4-thread overlock or a 3 step zigzag. Select Woven medium, Seam, on your Sewing Advisor. Snap on the Clear Seam Guide Foot. Layout your squares as illustrated or in any order that illu 2you like.

Borders Pin one border strip to the upper edge of the pieced pillow top, letting the ends of the border extend 4" (10 cm) beyond each end. Straight stitch the border to the top edge of the quilt, start and stop sewing _” (6mm) from the edges. illu 5b illu 5a

Fold the borders out and press. Fold the excess illu 10 part of the borders in the corner to form a mitered illu 10 corner, finger press to mark a guide line. illu 8 illu 7 illu 9

Snap on the Clear Stitch-in-Ditch foot. Set the machine for straight stitch. Thread the top and bobbin with sewing thread. Sew a straight stitch in the ditch between the borders and quilt top. Vivas, crescas, illu 10

Place the pillow front piece on top of the back piece, right sides together, pin in place. Open the illu 8 zipper enough to turn the pillow right side out. Snap on the A foot, select Woven Medium, Seam on the Sewing Advisor® Vivas, crescas,and sew around all four sides. Touch Overcast on the Sewing Advisor ®. Trim the corners and turn right side out through the zipper opening on the back.
