Formed in 1956, the Guild has reflected members' needs in sponsoring events for teachers, choreographers, and performers. Guild leaders have also been involved in the formation of other groups such as American Dance Therapy Association (ADTA), American College Dance Festival Association (ACDFA), Dance Critics Association (DCA), Congress on Research in Dance (CORD), and Society of Dance History Scholars (SDHS).
