Faith Series: The Anticipation of Fertile Soil

Newsletter Series 2013-2014 Article #5

With the hope and promise of a New Year’s greeting comes the excitement and anticipation of what ones hard earned efforts have produced thus far. Putting in four months of time, effort and prayer since the school year began into tilling and nurturing our soil, namely our students, provides us with an excitement of what we may possibly see in their personal and spiritual growth.

January 2014 By Russ Snoble

Nurturing our students with a sense of what Christ has called us to offer gives us a hope that together we are creating a district of disciples. Hearing and actively engaged in the commandments that Christ gave to each one of us, our students can begin to see that because Christ makes a very real difference in our lives, they can have hope that He will make a huge difference their lives to. Seeing the visible changes in our lives and the efforts we are making to bring about a spiritual growth in our students lives is the encouragement we search for as we begin another New Year. Let us pray that the soil we were preparing in 2013 will yield the most committed and dedicated disciples we have ever had in 2014. May Jesus richly bless each one of us with a very Happy and Blessed New Year.

January 6th Epiphany

The Season of the Church Year associated with Christmas actually begins with the first Sunday of Advent, four Sundays before Christmas Day. Advent is marked by expectation and anticipation in preparing to celebrate the coming of Jesus. Christmas begins with Christmas Day December 25 and lasts for Twelve Days until Epiphany, January 6, which looks ahead to the mission of the church to the world in light of the Nativity. The term epiphany means "to show" or "to make known" or even "to reveal." In Western churches, it remembers the coming of the wise men bringing gifts to visit the Christ child, who by so doing "reveal" Jesus to the world as Lord and King.

Skating... It is almost that time of year again when our classes will be heading over to the arena for a small portion of their Physical Education instruction. We are looking into scheduling skating times in January and February. Students will need to have a pair of skates and a helmet for this activity. If you do not own your own skates and/or helmet please do your best to borrow some as the school has a very limited supply of extra equipment. Once again, if you have any skates or helmets that you do not need and would like to donate it would be greatly appreciated. Any type of helmet is sufficient for the ice as long as it is the right size and has straps to secure it. A letter will be sent home indicating the schedule of days that your child’s class will be going to the rink. Remember to dress warm as the walk over as well as the time on the ice can be quite chilly. Please contact your child’s homeroom teacher if you are interested in volunteering during skating times.
