Department of Tourism The Department of Tourism at Garden City College of Science and Management Studies, Bangalore has been successful in nurturing dreamers, achievers and winners over the past 17 years. Catering to the world’s largest service industry, this department has created a niche for itself in shaping the finest scholars, professionals and entrepreneurs over the years. Students can explore their individual talents and skills by participating in specifically designed activities, conducted by Voyager – the tourism club, which in the past have produced some of the stalwarts in the industry today. The erudite faculty members have used their vast experience and strategic training to conduct various skill-based programs which are designed to develop

and maximize the potential of the students through a variety of teaching methods and activities. The department conducts various add-on courses such as software training, additional course for airline management, etc. An allied member of Travel Agents Association of India, the department has signed Memorandum of Understandings in the past academic year with TAAI and with Department of Forestry, Dolphin PG institute of Biomedical and Natural Sciences. Research and publication is another site where the faculty members dwell upon. Compass (ISSN 2394-0646), the annual refereed department journal is devoted to the burning topics related to the field of travel, tourism and hospitality.

Theme of the Conference This year’s conference focuses on the intrinsic value attached to cinema and its role in promotion of a place. The evolution of Pop-culture, in the field of tourism has led to the promotion of tourism in various parts of the world, cinema being one of their main tools. This conference would focus on the theme of Cinematic/Film Tourism - Evolution , Progress &Prospects, How film and television programs can

promote tourism and increase the competitiveness of tourist destinations. The conference aims at providing a platform to academicians, students and research scholars to discuss the potential for film tourism in the Country – National and State Level. Discussions during the conference would also facilitate research in related areas.

Objectives of the Conference Every act should have a higher purpose, and this year's conference aims to achieve the same. The objective of this

conference is to explore this vast web of cinema and its deep impact in tourism.

Discussion themes: The themes for discussion and paper presentation will have a close bearing on the following sub-themes.

• Cinematic/Film Tourism - Evolution, Progress & Prospects • How film and television programs can promote tourism and increase the competitiveness of tourist destinations • Cinema-induced Tourism: Inventing a Vacation to a Location • Cinematic Tourism :Challenges & Impacts(positive and negative),Emerging Trends • The Influence of a Film on Destination Image and the Desire to Travel: A Cross Cultural Comparison • Film festivals and award events contribution to Tourism segments

• Promoting Destinations via Film Tourism: An Empirical Identification of Supporting Marketing Initiatives • Cinema and tourism : Growth story of industry with time & technology, contribution to society • Mile stone -100 years journey of Indian Cinema • Potential for film tourism in the Country – National and State Level • Role of Government & private sector • Career Scope in Entertainment Industry

Note: Participants can choose any of the above sub-themes to write their papers. However, the list is only illustrative and not exhaustive, and therefore participants can present papers on any theme of their choice by relating it to the main theme of the conference.

Call for Papers Insightful papers focusing on the theme of the conference are invited. Interested participants may send the abstract of their papers (not exceeding 300 words) by February 6th 2016. The abstract should include the title of the paper, author’s name, designation, institutional affiliation, postal address, telephone number and email id. Participants should also mention their category – academicians (teachers from education institutions) or research scholars/students. Academicians who are involved in research work (M.Phil/Ph.D) need to mention their category as “Academician” and not “Research Scholar”. Last date for submission of full paper is February 14, 2016. Selected papers will be published in the departmental journal COMPASS (ISSN - 2394 0646).

Guidelines for Paper Submission • Standard A4 size paper with 1.5 margins on all sides. • Double spacing throughout. • Scripts should be in MS Word (2003-2007) – Times New Roman, Font size 12.

• Full paper must not exceed 12 minutes in delivery. • Soft copy of the abstract may be sent as an e-mail attachment to [email protected].
