Background
BCRC-Caribbean was established under the Framework Agreement between the Secretariat of the Basel Convention (SBC) and the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago (GORTT) signed in Geneva on October 29th 2004.
The BCRC-Caribbean is a National Institution, constituted as a corporate Body under Act #2 of 2008 of the Laws of Trinidad and Tobago, and hosted by the Ministry of Housing and the Environment (MHE) of the GORTT.
Background
MHE provides support in kind and in cash for the routine operation of the BCRCCaribbean.
Support in kind is provided through fully paid up premises and services costs and the salaries of the four key staff of the Centre.
Support in cash is provided by way of an annual contribution of $100,000.00 USD to the operation of the Centre.
Background
BCRC-Caribbean represents the following countries in the Caribbean - Belize, Cuba, The Bahamas, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Antigua and Barbuda, The Federation of St Kitts and Nevis, Dominica, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana.
Suriname is expected to be included in 2012.
BCRC-Caribbean is governed by a Steering Committee drawn from the host country, mainland territories, Windward Islands, Leeward Islands, Spanish Speaking Islands.
Status of BCRC-Caribbean
The BCRC-Caribbean is now fully operational and “open for business”.
We have prepared a draft of our Business Plan for 2012-2013 and will have it ratified by our Steering Committee in January 2012.
Steering Committee meets once per year as a minimum to review work activities of the BCRCCaribbean and to provide direction and focus to the issues of importance to the Caribbean Territories. Next Meeting carded for Jan 16th 2012.

Update national inventory of use and disposal Review Policy and Enabling Legislation to facilitate waste oil collection, re-refining, disposal and destruction.
