Updated official report from MoFDM illustrates that the number of death caused by tropical cyclone ‘SIDR’ has risen to 3033 affecting 6.77 million people of 1.57 million families. These casualties and damages of houses, livestock, crops, educational institutions, roads and embankments have been reported from 1727 unions of 208 upazilas of 31 districts. Most deaths and damages have been attributed to the storm surge. AFD is working on non-stop basis and carrying the relief goods to the local administrations, communities at the very remote locations by the BAF aircrafts. In continuation with previous efforts today they have completed 19 missions carrying 55.21 tonnes relief goods by helicopters and aircrafts.

Up to Thursday, 23 November 2007 GoB have allocated approx 7.1 million USD from Honorable Chief Advisor’s Relief & Welfare Fund and DRR, MoFDM for the Sidr victims. GoB has also allocated 7640 MT GR Rice, distributed 27,000 food bags, 18,000 blankets, 14,979 tents, 3,348 utensils and 13,000 bundles of CI sheets by the Directorate of Relief and Rehabilitation (DRR). Most affected areas by Sidr The most affected areas of the Sidr in terms of deaths are Barguna, Bagerhat, Patuakhali and Pirozpur. 1000 pcs water purifying filter provided by UNDP were allocated to to Bagerhat, Patuakhali, Barguna and Pirozpur (Bagerhat 250, Patuakhali 250, Barguna 250, Pirozpur 250) 75 pcs tent and 100 packet food items to Bagerhat, 75 pcs tent and 100 packet food items, rice 100 bags (2 ton) to Patuakhali, 75 pcs tent 75 packets food items to Barguna and 75 pcs tent 75 packets food items to Pirojpur were allocated from the contribution provided by the Government of Pakistan. 30pcs tent, 300 pcs thin blanket, 30 pcs blanket, 8 generator, codril 8 pcs, water jariken 120 pcs, plastic 50 pcs, water tank 6 pcs, water purifier 20 pcs to Bagerhat; 30pcs tent, 300 pcs thin blanket, 30 pcs blanket, 8 pcs generator, codril 8 pcs, plastic 50 pcs to Patuakhali; 20pcs tent, 200 pcs thin blanket, 20 pcs blanket, 7pcs generator, codril 7 pcs, water jariken 60 pcs, plastic 50 pcs, water tank 4 pcs, water purifier 10 pcs to Barguna and 20pcs tent, 200 pcs thin blanket, 20 pcs blanket, 7 generator, codril 7 pcs, plastic 50 pcs to Pirojpur were allocated provided by Japan International Corporate Agency. 4000 pcs blanket, 150 pcs tent and 64 pcs bag/carton medicine were accepted from India 220 metricton rice have been allocated to Barguna district affected by SIDR. AUD 3m AUD 1 m will be provided to WFP to meet immediate food needs. AUD 1 m will be provided to IFRC to support the Bangladesh Red Crescent Societies' relief efforts including basic health care and emergency sanitation. AUD 1 m will be provided through Australian NGOs working in Bangladesh for the provision of safe water and sanitation facilities, supplementary feeding for women and children, and non-food items including clothes and blankets.
