Book Opinion ~ From Massavanna Review to follow respectively. Fifty Shades of Grey (2011) - E L James Genre (s) Erotic fiction Fifty Shades of Grey is based from a Twilight fan fiction. It is the first installment of a trilogy… Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed are to follow respectively. Fifty Shades of Grey is currently on the top best seller list in the U.S. and the U.K. Fifty Shades of Grey takes place in the general Seattle area and follows the relationship between Anastasia Steele, a recent college grad, and delicious

billionaire deviate Christian Grey. Christian wants Ana from the moment she trips over her own feet into his office. His obsession with her can’t be quelled. This piece explores the world of BDSM, the Red Room of Pain…and oh, there’s a contract involved. Fifty Shades of Grey is a decent read and an easy read, much in the prose as Twilight, provided you manage yourself through a few small hoops first. My Personal Notes The author uses the phrase “Oh My” so much in this piece that I wanted to hang myself, and I would have mentioned James by name in my suicide letter. But before it came to that, every time I read the phrase “Oh My”… in my mind a thought bubble would pop up of George Takei saying his coined phrase (Oh Myyy), and I laughed every time he said it ( Thanks Mr. Takei!). It made the piece more bearable and I was able to keep turning its pages. As if the aforementioned weren’t enough, then there is a moderate use of British idioms. I quite wondered why the author just didn’t make her American heroine –British (I have my suspicions as to why the author didn’t make her heroine British… loads of British folk attend universities here…a British heroine could have worked just as well). But to be fair, my son and I exercise the British idiom all time and his accent is “Spot On”, so I was able to be more forgiving of this minor annoyance. I’m really not getting Fifty Shades of Grey being referred to as “Mommy Porn”, because at first thought, who wants to read “Mommy Porn”? For me, “Mommy Porn” would have a plot line where the heroine is in her late 30’s or 40’s at least…and I’m certainly not saying that there isn’t some good “Mommy Porn” out there. I just wasn’t feeling this piece as having the “Mommy Porn” vibe. The heroine of this piece is 21, and about that-- being that this piece takes place in our current time, I had some difficulty believing that the heroine was this naïve, even for a virgin of today (tongue-in-cheek). I mean, we are inundated with media/social media and are privy to a wealth of information and influence at our finger tips. At some points in this piece, I was confused as to who the heroine

really is, because sometimes she seemed to be quick on the uptake and other moments…duh! Perhaps, it is par for the course…the age of the heroine and her newly “Welcome to the club, you’re not a virgin any more…but still behind the ears and everywhere else” status. There are also selections of phrases that get used over and over again…edit people…edit! The heroine’s constant converse with her “Inner Goddess” was a bit much. Granted, I converse with my AllKnowing- Inner Goddess all the time, as I do enjoy intelligent conversation…and I answer her too…but not this much. Now on to Christian Grey, first off, if there is anyone in the general area of where this piece takes place (or anywhere else, for that matter) and you fit the description of Christian Grey, please inbox me as soon as you get this…signing contracts…no problem…and Holy Fuck! … is right, Ana…I too dream of Sir. I’d be fully cognizant of what I was getting myself into…I’d sign…done and done. ”Sir, what am I going to do with you?” I’m biting my lip again. “You like that don’t you?” So go ahead...pour yourself a cuppa and dive right in, Christian is waiting.
