The position is full time and permanent and you would be working between 9 am and 5.30 pm Monday to Friday. It is staffed by a friendly and supportive group of ten teaching staff, who are all subject specialists. The faculty is well stocked with a wide choice of reference books and electronic resources for all of the courses taught. The faculty is accommodated in classrooms with projectors and a team work room. Many classrooms have interactive whiteboards. Sets of ipads and laptops can also be booked for classroom use. KS4 students follow the Edexcel IGCSE Business Studies course. Typical class sizes range between eight and ten students, student behaviour is good and levels of attainment are high with a significant number of students going on to study business-related courses at university. Abbey College Cambridge Abbey College Cambridge was established in 1994 as a premier sixth form college specialising in providing high quality teaching to classes of around ten students. Our student body is made up of students from many countries who study A-levels, International Foundation, GCSE and pre-sessional English Language. SALARIED STAFF JOB DESCRIPTION It is the collective responsibility of all members of staff to provide a friendly, stimulating, and secure environment in which every student in the college has the opportunity to develop personally, socially, and academically. Members of staff work to the policies of Abbey Cambridge’s parent company, Alpha Plus Group Ltd. These documents will be issued to staff on appointment. Every member of staff will undertake the following duties in a responsible and professional manner. All tutors are responsible, with the guidance of their Head of Department and Faculty Leader (where applicable), for the complete, sufficiently detailed and timely delivery of the subject syllabus. A course time-plan is essential for this activity, and should be presented to the Head of Department or Faculty Leader or to the Vice Principal (Academic) for teachers of subjects without a Faculty Leader or Head. All tutors are responsible, with the guidance of their Head of Department and Faculty Leader (or to the Vice Principal (Academic) for teachers of subjects without a Faculty Leader or Head), for the complete and timely delivery of all subject coursework. The Tutor and Head of Department (where applicable) should liaise closely with the Examinations Officer with regard to deadlines and any other necessary administration. A coursework time-plan is essential for this activity, and should be presented to the Head of Department or Faculty Leader or to the Vice Principal (Academic) for teachers of subjects without a Faculty Leader or Head. Through close liaison with their Head of Department and Faculty Leader (or to the Vice Principal (Academic) for teachers of subjects without a Faculty Leader or Head), all tutors should ensure that their course is adequately resourced. In particular, the necessity for course textbooks should be made known to Heads of Department well in advance of the commencement of the course. All tutors will set homework regularly. Homework should be assessed and returned promptly to the student. The regular testing programme at the college has a high priority in the organisation of a sound, comprehensive work programme for the students. Tutors should assist students as much as possible, both in making special preparations for the test and in analysing the results, providing constructive feedback and, where necessary, preparing appropriate follow-up work. All tutors will record the attendance of each student at the beginning of each class in the attendance register. Absent students should be reported immediately to the College Administrator. If a Tutor wishes to cancel a lesson in advance then he/she MUST only do so after discussion with a member of the Senior Management Team. If a Tutor cannot attend a lesson because of sickness or exceptional circumstances, then the Tutor should contact the college before the beginning of normal lessons (preferably before 8.45am) on each day of the lessons affected. When a lesson is cancelled, the Tutor should, where possible, leave ready a suitable work programme for the students affected and make suitable arrangements for the programme to be communicated to the students affected. Each tutor should always: ● set excellent standards of punctuality, speech, and manner. ● dress in a professional manner. ● seek to make the classroom and college environment friendly and stimulating. ● issue instructions clearly and without ambiguity. ● listen to students and stimulate dialogue. Always seek to encourage students and never humiliate them. ● deal promptly with any aspect of student behaviour that is to the detriment of the development of other students in the group or the college as a whole. ● ensure that the classroom is always neat, tidy, safe and a pleasant place to work in are attentive to the overall security of the college premises. Always ensure that at the end of the day windows are securely shut and that all electrical equipment is switched off and plugs removed from the socket.

● immediately report to a senior member of staff any sighting of unauthorised persons in the building Hours of Work The hours of work are 9-5.30 pm, Monday to Friday. Teaching finishes at 4.15 pm and teachers are permitted to leave the college at that time if they have no other commitments. Teaching time A full time salaried member will have an annual commitment of 850 timetabled hours and should expect a normal teaching week of around 24-26 timetabled class hours for the duration of the academic year. A Head of Department or Head of Year will have a reduced teaching commitment. Abbey salaried teachers are also expected to help in providing additional assistance to individual students outside of lesson time on an ad hoc basis. Personal tutoring Abbey salaried teachers take the role of a Personal Tutor for a group of Abbey students, with whom they meet on a regular basis to review progress and to assist with the delivery of PSHE and citizenship programmes. Easter Revision As part of the annual teaching commitment a salaried teacher will also be required to teach for one week of Easter Revision (up to 30 hours over the week). A teacher of EFL will not be required to teach a week of Easter Revision but instead will be expected to teach for two weeks of the summer school (in July and August). Holidays A salaried teacher is entitled to 51 days of holidays, to include public holidays. These must be taken outside of the college term time. Heads of Department have the same number of holidays but must also take holiday outside of the period of time from the August A-level results day to the start of term. The position of a teacher on the pay spine relevant to their contractual position is at the discretion of the Principal, and is determined upon appointment. In broad terms, a teacher’s position upon the pay spine is determined by length of relevant teaching experience. However, other factors such as qualifications and relevant non-teaching experience may be taken into account. Progression up the pay spine is at the discretion of the Principal. Management allowances are payable in addition to a teacher’s remuneration as determined by the pay spine above. Management allowances are paid at the discretion of the Principal and are determined upon appointment. Full-time contract teachers who provide tuition to fee paying external ‘Private Tuition Students’, over and above their contracted hours, will be paid an hourly overtime rate of £27.80 per hour. The Teachers’ Pay Spines and Management Allowances detailed above will be reviewed annually. Each member of staff will receive a written notification of his or her position on the pay spine and, where applicable, the management allowance to be paid for the following academic year.
