Driver Job Description Are you team-oriented, and passionate about helping others? The River Food Pantry is looking for a self-motivated, organized and personable Driver who is dedicated to making a change in the Madison community. About The River Food Pantry: The River Food Pantry is the busiest food pantry in Dane County, with an average of 600 families visiting the pantry every week. We offer free groceries, meals, and clothing to anyone who comes for help. Located in a warehouse on the Northside of Madison, The River is surrounded by low-income neighborhoods and subsidized senior housing—exactly where we’re needed the most. We are a small team with a mission to bring nutritional support and hope to those in need. We believe that collaboration is the best way to meet our goals. The pantry is constantly in growing, and we need someone who embraces change. We believe that with a positive attitude and a respect for others, we will grow to meet the needs of our community. The River has a casual culture, where people seeking assistance are treated with dignity and respect. We have high standards of quality, requiring patience, attention to detail, and the ability to visualize the ‘big picture’. About The Driver position: The Driver is responsible for all of the pantry’s cargo transportation needs. This position reports to the Pantry Manager and will coordinate with the Operations Director. Responsibilities include driving the pantry’s cargo vans and 20 foot cube van for daily pickups from local wholesalers, grocery stores, schools, food banks, and other locations as needed. The Driver is expected to oversee the logistics of pickups with efficiency. In addition, an ability to communicate with the Pantry Manager, Operations Director, volunteers, and vendor staff in a professional manner is expected. The driver will handle the loading and unloading of cargo, utilizing pallet jacks and lifts when necessary. In addition, the driver is responsible for vehicle maintenance, safety checks and cleanliness. This is a part-time position and requires a WI driver’s license and good driving record. A CDL is not necessary. The position is between 15-20 hours per week. Key Areas of Responsibility:  Pick up donations on scheduled route  Handle all donated product in accordance with established safe food handling guidelines  Work with the Pantry Manager and Operations Director to coordinate pick-ups of regular and one time donations

Conduct daily safety check on vehicles to ensure all are in good working order and clean and free of debris and contain the necessary pickup/delivery supplies Participate in staff development activities and trainings as needed Assist with accurately documenting incoming donation weight as needed Provide receipts to donors upon request Perform other duties as needed and/or upon request

Qualifications:  High school diploma or equivalent  Safe driving record, truck experience preferred but not necessary, CDL not necessary  Reliable and prompt arrival at The River and all pick-up locations  Operating knowledge of standard warehouse equipment  Proper lifting techniques  Must be able to regularly and safely lift 50 pounds  Proficiency in basic math  Ability to work with a diverse group of people with sensitivity and without discrimination  Ability to work independently with minimal supervision  Interpersonal skills - tact, patience, and courtesy  Patience, flexibility and a good sense of humor  Ability to speak passionately and articulately about our mission Physical Demands: Food preparation environment; exposure to potentially hazardous warehouse equipment; prolonged periods of standing and walking; climbing, bending, stooping and lifting 50 pounds. Days and Hours: This is a part time, hourly position. Primarily morning hours, including a couple hours on Sunday morning, and occasional afternoon hours.
