Introduction

Study region – DGO Coteaux du Layon

Most pesticides in France are used in viticulture to maximize profits. Pesticides have negative effects on biodiversity and water quality. Can French winegrowers gain economic profit from increasing ecological quality, i.e. inter-row vegetation cover ?

Methodology Aesthetic perception of inter-row soil management at landscape scale

Earthworm sampling 1. Inter-row soil management of 17 vineyards • 7 bare soil (herbicides) • 10 with vegetation cover 2. Six blocks within each vineyard(25x25x20cm) • Hand sorting • Earthworm abundance and species richness /m2 3. Comparison between inter-row soil management practices • Generalized linear model (GLM, Poisson) distribution)

1. Photograph-choice questionnaire for 192 visitors • (1) Postcard for friends or relatives • (2) Photograph with biodiversity beneficial for vineyards 2. Comparison of answers between touristic interest profiles (Fisher's exact tests (1,000 repetitions))

Policy Analysis Matrix (PAM) Simplified partial equilibrium analysis Comparing private profitability before and after policy changes Comparing the production between different countries and regions Choosing three scenarios (basic, cover crops and cover crops & marketing)
